An irreverent fashion column

t’s been hard to get out of bed since late September. Orange County’s beaches are deserted. The impromptu Pay-Per-View worthy brawls between tourists over beach parking have ceased. The boys of summer have left the Orange County bars to return to work and responsibility. Life feels like a Don Henley song, and that is as depressing as all hell. Needless to say, I couldn’t bear writing a fashion column praising the joys of fall and winter fashion in Orange County when I’ve been wearing my cutoff shorts and watching Point Break on rerun in protest for the past two weeks. So I asked my friends to throw me a rope in this pit of autumnal self-loathing. Meet this season’s That’s What She Said players: Taylor Taguchi (an all around fashionable journalist from Orange County), Francisco, Eddie and Alex Barragan, three brothers who combine their good looks and talents to form Orange County style consulting group Style by F.E.A. Between the Barragans’ guidance and Taylor’s feminine input, we created a fabulous look for what every person frets to dress correctly for: the first date. Here are the Barragans’ picks and tips for the non-assuming but highly-impressive first date look.

HOW

TO

DRESS ACCORDING TO STYLE BY F.E.A.

Both of the looks we created here were inspired by the fall/winter runways. We’re going to show you how to take these runway looks and apply them to real life.

LAYERING is key to these looks, which can transition from warm outdoor solutions to sexy indoor getups. Keep each layer interesting by mixing patterns, textures and colors. FLORAL PRINTS are a strong trend this season for women as well as MENSWEAR INSPIRED LOOKS. For Taylor’s ensemble we chose the floral print tuxedo jacket by STYLESTALKER, which we got at one of our favorite Orange County boutiques, Lobby at The Lab in Costa Mesa. We paired it with a sheer button up and a black sequin detailed skirt to keep the look fun and flirty. Fall/winter weather in So. Cal is so unpredictable, so if the weather calls for it, add dark opaque tights or printed sheer tights. Your legs will look long and feeling comfy.

BOOTIES are a must-have this season. As for accessories, we wanted to add warmth to the otherwise cool toned outfit, so we added gold toned jewelry and unexpected pops of tangerine. Jewelry can be tricky. Try to stay away from jewelry sets that are too matchy. Mixing classic, simple pieces with fun edgy ones, like the spike bangles Taylor wore, adds more interest to the overall look. For Alex’s look we wanted to feature the darker, moodier side of fall and winter fashion. The DEEP BERRY TONES of the scoop neck tee and pants are framed perfectly by the black leather motorcycle jacket. Playing with COLOR is one of the easiest ways for guys to get
