The Lions had a chance to send it to overtime as they forced a fivesecond call down just three, 64-61, with 11 seconds to play. The Lions got a good look as C.J. Blackwell’s three-pointer from the top of the key was just long. Playing with just seven players the last month of the season, freshman Gabe Levin was out with a concussion, leaving them with just six. According to available box scores, it is just the second time the Lions have played an entire game with just six players, the only other coming on Feb. 18, 1984 when they fell to San Diego, 60-56. • The final stretch of the record-setting four-year career of Anthony Ireland continues to put him in rare company within the history of LMU men’s basketball. He continues to add to his legacy as one of the program’s all-time best players, joining Hank Gathers and Forrest McKenzie as the only Lions to earn first-team All-Conference honors by the West Coast Conference three times. Ireland was selected first-team All-WCC for the third straight year, as announced with the release of the WCC postseason honors on Monday. While Ireland continues to add to his career numbers, LMU’s season was also about the beginning of the careers of freshmen Gabe Levin and Evan Payne. The two newcomers were named to the five-team WCC All-Freshman team, adding postseason honors to their record-setting freshman seasons. • Senior Anthony Ireland continues to cement himself even more in the LMU record books, not missing a game and not one day of practice in his three-year career. LMU has played 5,260 minutes since Ireland joined the program. He has played in 4,576 of them, making him the only Lion in LMU history with at least 2,000 career points, 500 career rebounds, 500 career assists and 150 career steals. He is the only active player in the NCAA to have hit those milestones. As of Mar. 2 he is second in the league at 18.7 ppg (61st nationally), second in assists at 5.37 (37th nationally) and second in steals at 1.63. With 560 points (ranked 39th in the NCAA as of Mar. 2), 161 assists (ranked 31st) and 49 steals (ranked 86th) in 2013-14, Ireland now ranks third in points with 2,136, third in assists with 545 and second in steals at 196. He has turned some heads in the process, here are some headlines from the season: • The Next Step - LA Times • Heart of a Warrior - Daily Breeze • Watch-list for the Bob Cousy Award • Preseason Lou Henson Award All-American • WCC Best: sbnation and College Hoops Journal • Nation’s most unknown top players (CBS) He has done this while losing a tooth during a game, not missing a second in the process against Alaska-Anchorage; playing the season needing knee surgery as a junior; needing stitches in his lower lip during a game as a sophomore. He is the seventh player in WCC history to reach 2,000 points in his career, joining four other Lions on that list. He is the only one to not have played at some point with Paul Westhead. As of Mar. 2, here is where he ranks all-time in LMU history: • Total Points: 3rd (2,136) • Points Per Game: 15th (16.4 ppg) • Field Goals Made: 5th (727) • Field Goals Attempted: 3rd (1,744) • 3PT FGs Made: 4th (193) • 3PT FG Attempted: 3rd (555) • 3PT FG PCT: 20th (.348) • FTs Made: 3rd (489) • FTs Attempted: 4th (614) • FT PCT: 18th (.796) • Rebounds: 24th (510) • Assists: 3rd (545) • Assists Per Game: 9th (4.2 apg) • Steals: 2nd (196) • Steals Per Game: 13th (1.5 spg) • Games Played: 1st (130) • Games Started: 1st (123) • Minutes: 1st (4,576) LMU Men’s Basketball • 2013-14 Game Notes • • #LMULions 1
