Wisconsin’s State Chili Cook-Off ENTERING ITS 30TH YEAR, the Wisconsin State Chili CookOff welcomes those with a talent for concocting the best tasting chili in the state! On Sept. 8, 2012, Deacon Mills Park will be home to over 40 teams cooking up their famous batch of red, hot, chili. Competitors from all over the Midwest have to follow strict International Chili Society (ICS) rules to be eligible. Traditional Red Chili is defined by the International Chili Society as any kind of meat or combination of meats, cooked with red chili peppers, various spices and other ingredients, with the exception of BEANS and PASTA which are strictly forbidden. Discriminating judges keep the rules in mind when selecting their winners. Cooking starts at 10:30 a.m. with judging starting at 3 p.m. Winners of this ICS-sanctioned event receive a trophy and $750 to use toward traveling to the World Champion Chili Cook-off to compete for the $25,000 grand prize. Organized by Bill Munsey and the Green Lake Rotary Club, the cook-off isn’t just for kitchen wizards. Members of the public are able to taste-test the chili after the judges have pulled their samples. Folks will also enjoy live music, with a band performing on the Starlite Stage from noon to 4 p.m. The Rotary Club will offer a few non-chili items as well as ice cold refreshments to cool mouths down. All of this serious competition has to be flanked by a good time. Chili pepper costumes, a comedic master of ceremonies, and a crowd that can bear any amount of heat, will be ready to have some fun. Join the Green Lake Rotary Club at this hot event and in raising funds to support Green Lake youth programs in the future.

maybe your spouse has a conference and you’re on your own? Treat yourself and take time to discover Green Lake’s spa life. Studies show that spa treatment benefits can translate into better health and moreover, guaranteed relaxation. Evensong Spa was constructed in 2006 and opened in September of that year, across the street from Heidel House Resort. The spa has a Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired exterior and an interior filled with deluxe surfaces and furnishings. Particularly impressive and unique about Evensong is the stunning circular maze-pattern created out of slate inspired Sant’Agostino floor tiles. The labyrinth, which is a single circular path that has been used for centuries as a tool for personal, psychological and spiritual transformation, is the key indoor focal feature. Walking a labyrinth can be a metaphor for the journey to the center of your deepest self and back out into the world with a broadened understanding of who you are. Read about all of Evensong’s treatments at www.EvensongSpa.com, or for more information call 800-444-2812. European Bodyworks is staffed by a group of experienced, licensed independent therapists, each bringing a wealth of knowledge and skills to every spa session. Whether you are seeking the glow and deep relaxation of a great yoga or Pilates session, the soothing relief of a therapeutic massage, or the confidence that comes with great looking skin, our staff can provide that individual attention to assist you in whatever it is you need. See more of European Bodyworks’ treatments at www.GreenLakeSpa.com or call 920-294-0990 to book your appointment. Never been to a spa before? Here are some guidelines so you feel comfortable and receive the ultimate relaxation benefits. It is recommended that you make spa reservations at least two weeks in advance. Plan to arrive 15-30 minutes before your scheduled appointment. This allows time to change into spa wear and begin unwinding. Upon your arrival you may be asked to fill out a short questionnaire where you can share any special concerns or needs you may have during your visit. And finally, remember to turn your cell phone off so as not to disturb your, or anyone else’s, peace and quiet.
