Denton Record-Chronicle

Get in the game For fans of all ages, Denton is a field of dreams If you’re a fan of college and high school sports, then Denton’s the place to be. From big-time college athletics at the University of North Texas and Texas Woman’s University to some of the most talented high school teams in the state, organized sports are an important part of Denton. You can take in Mean Green football games at Apogee Stadium or head across the street to the Super Pit to watch both the UNT men’s and women’s basketball teams during the fall. The UNT volleyball team plays at the Snake Pit. In the spring you can see the newly resurrected UNT softball program at Denia Park or catch the track and field team at Fouts Field. If Division II athletics are what you crave, jaunt over to Kitty Magee Arena on the TWU campus and catch the Pioneers’ basketball, vol-

leyball, and gymnastics teams in action. You can also see the Pioneer softball team at Pioneer Field. If high school sports are more your speed, you can catch the Denton Broncos, Ryan Raiders, or Guyer Wildcats at their respective home fields. Denton schools have won numerous district titles while competing against some of the toughest teams in the state. Let’s not forget Denton Calvary and Liberty Christian, both of which compete in TAPPS. Both have top-notch baseball programs that have produced state titles and numerous district titles. If little league sports and activities are your game, then the Denton parks and recreation department should be your next stop. The department offers sports and activities for athletes of all ages. You can sign up your child for summer sports camps, swim lessons, league play, gymnastics, boxing, indoor rock climbing, martial arts, and more.
