Associate in Science Degree in Dental Hygiene Dental hygienists work in school systems' dental health programs, for health agencies, on government research programs and as teachers. Working under the supervision of a dentist, dental hygienists check and clean teeth, chart tooth conditions, take radiographs, apply fluoride, impart dental health information, sterilize instruments, and perform other chairside and office duties. Upon successful completion of this curriculum, the student is eligible to take a licensing examination prescribed by the board of dental examiners of the state in which she chooses to practice.
