Buy the best quality leather school shoes that you can afford, your little ones will be wearing them all day, every day. And, if you buy a quality pair they’re more likely to last the year. l Whatever you’re buying – be it a sports kit, shoes, a shirt, skirt or trousers – make sure they try them on and they fit correctly. l Trousers and skirts with special stain-resistant coatings are now widely available – and perfect for kids who tend to come home with their uniform splattered in paint, mud and half their lunch. l Tempted to buy a blazer two sizes too big so it lasts a year or two? You could, but bear in mind that by the time they grow into it, it may be looking a little worse for wear – so it may prove a false economy. Best to buy a blazer with a bit of room for manoeuvre, but not so ridiculously big it swamps them. l
