Fairway Collision and Automotive: One call, they do it all

W

hen Mike Lund opened Fairway Collision and Automotive in 1975, he repaired the cars while his wife, Jane, managed the office. The locally owned Vadnais Heights business is still thriving nearly four decades later, and Mike and Jane have earned their retirement. Their three children - Pam Caruth and her twin brothers Kevin and Cary Lund, all of whom have worked at the business since high school - are now the co-owners. The family named Fairway after their business philosophy as well as the three-hole golf course that used to occupy the land where the business is situated just east of Rice Street. For 37 years, Fairway has offered a onestop shop for customers’ automotive needs - from mechanical to glass to paint and body repair. Bodywork is a big part of the business, and it’s easy to see why. Advances in the industry such as paintless dent repair offer an economical way to get rid of dings, small dents and hailstone marks accumulated on Minnesota roads throughout the year. All body-damage repairs are covered by the company’s “Guarantee for Life.” As long as you own the vehicle, Fairway will keep your car happy. And Pam, Kevin and Cary make it easy to do business with Fairway - from towing with their own tow truck to mobile estimates, free pickup and delivery, shuttle service, even offering a “loaner” car if your insurance doesn’t cover a rental. Now, the shop also features a heated drive-through estimating bay to enhance the customer experience.

Experienced Staff To ensure extra comfort for customers, Fairway has retained the same trusted employees who remember you and your vehicle from year to year. “This is a family affair,” Pam says. The shop employs 33 people with very little turnover: eight body technicians, three painters, three paintpreparers, three detailers and two mechanics as well as estimators and office staff. “Our employees, some of whom have been with us for more than 20 years, are all Minnesota or Wisconsin natives,” Pam explains. “A few still live in their hometowns like Pine City or Balsam, Wis., and drive back and forth each day.” Fairway has also set the bar for environmental standards. “We’re one of the only shops in the state of Minnesota leading the way in the use of environmentally responsible water-borne paint systems,” Kevin explains. The system was developed and is used

The body shop at Fairway is expansive, loaded with the most upto-date equipment.

The water-based system not only prevents volatile organic chemicals from leaching into the environment but also creates less film buildup on vehicles. Fairway Collision and Automotive is also trusted by insurance carriers; most companies have listed Fairway in their direct repair programs, meaning policyholders can go directly to the Vadnais Heights shop for repairs and have the work billed to the insurance companies. Additionally, the company has received the “Master Certified” designation from Toyota and Lexus. But its repair work isn’t limited to those brands. Fairway is certified to work on all makes and models of domestic and foreign vehicles. Fairway is a member of the Dupont Performance Alliance, certified by I-Car, the Automotive Institute and the Alliance of Automotive Service Providers. Fairway also posted a 98.6 percent independent customer satisfaction score for 2011. On top of their stellar service, Pam, Cary and Kevin strive to give back to the Vadnais Heights Community. Fairway is a member of the Vadnais Heights Economic Development Group (VHEDC) and active with the March of Dimes fundraising campaign. It also takes part in Heritage Days and helps sponsor several local high school sports.

To increase efficiency and reduce costs, Fairway Collision and Automotive purchased its own tow truck.

If beauty is skin deep, Christina Clinic goes deeper

W

ith more than 30 years of experience in hair removal and the skin care business - and now body contouring - the staff at Christina Clinic does it all. The clinic provides services including basic skin care, electrolysis, laser hair removal and CoolSculpting — a new high tech, non-surgical body contouring treatment. “We treat all types of issues,” says owner Christina Cairl. Cairl opened Christina Clinic in Arden Hills in 1981 and made the move to Roseville in 2001. The new state-of-theart facility has seven treatment rooms and serves men and women — ranging from age 8 to 90. “We have patients who come in for multiple services, and hair removal is popular,” Cairl adds. Typically, men have hair removed from their chest, back and the confluence of their eyebrows, while women prefer to keep their upper lips, bikini line and legs silky smooth. Some choose electrolysis, a safe permanent hair removal technique that involves sending heat and current through a probe to destroy the roots of hairs. With electrolysis, which works best for removing lightcolored hair, the hair removal is permanent after a series of treatments, Cairl explains. The clinic is also one of only a few clinics in the state to offer laser treatments using the new Light Sheer Duet Laser System — a comfortable option for permanent hair removal. “The darker and thicker the hair, the better the laser treatment works,” Cairl says.

A progressive clinic Cairl notes that the industry is everchanging, but that Christina Clinic remains a leader in the field. “You’ve got to be innovative or your business will not survive,” she says, adding that one of the clinic’s newest services, CoolSculpting, is gaining popularity. CoolSculpting is a non-invasive, non-surgical liposuction alternative for removal of those pesky love handles. If the bulge won’t budge after diet and exercise, CoolSculpting can freeze stubborn fat, which is then naturally eliminated from the body. Christina Clinic is an affiliate of Crutchfield Dermatology with CoolSculpting and procedures are also done at that office, located at 1185 Town

Procedures & Treatments Non-Invasive Fat Removal CoolSculpting is a patented revolutionary, non-invasive cooling technology created by Zeltiq. It has the capability of removing specific localized fat in body areas such as the waist or love handles, back and abdomen which are proven to be stubborn to respond to exercise and diet. CoolSculpting is a noninvasive and non-surgical liposuction alternative and tummy-tuck alternative.

Cairl says she’s proud Christina Clinic offers its clients this revolutionary new technique, and that she’s even tried it herself with great results. “I want to make sure the services will work for my clients, so I test them out on myself,” Cairl says. Christiana Clinic also offers a full line of skin care items, featuring Dermalogica and NeoStrata products. Beginning with a Face Mapping analysis, a client can experience various degrees of treatment designed to make the skin glow and reduce signs of aging. Further treatments may include peels, waxing, and microdermabrasion. The clinic also offers gift certificates and now has a special offer for a package of five treatments.

In addition to eight longtime employees, the clinic employs two doctors as supervisory medical directors, James Wire, M.D. in Chaska and Charles E. Crutchfield III, M.D, from Crutchfield Dermatology. The staff also includes nationally certified laser technicians, estheticians, and electrologists who can inject Botox and fill wrinkles. Cairl says she believes her staff can help clients keep their skin looking great, and help them feel great too. “We can help them have an overall sense of well-being.”

Honest-1 Auto Care: Service to trust in your community

S

ervice is better than ever at Honest-1 Auto Care since it opened on Lexington Avenue North in Roseville. “Everything we do, the quality of service we offer, the warranty we offer, the eco-friendly aspect of the business sets us apart in the foreign and domestic automobile repair industry,” says owner Jim Henkel. Henkel is joined by owner Pat Kelly, with whom he started the business. The “better than ever‚“ philosophy reflects Henkel’s and Kelly’s priority for customers who come in the door for fullservice auto repair. “We can take care of all of a customer’s automotive needs,” Kelly says. Customer care starts with the expertise of Honest-1’s seven Automotive Service Excellence certified technicians. Each year the technicians renew their certification and continue their education with ASE classes and seminars detailing the latest technology and automobile service trends, Kelly says. The technicians also take courses online each month. Once a customer drives away from Honest-1 with a completed service, from alignment to engine maintenance, they are guaranteed a three-year, 36,000-mile warranty, Henkel says, adding that the warranty promise is about triple the industry standard.

Above, Honest-1 is a fixture at its Lexington Avenue location in Roseville. There are four additional full-service auto center franchise locations in the metro area, and two more are scheduled to open in the spring of 2012. Left, The business lobby features comfortable seating, free wireless Internet, and a workstation with a computer. Honest-1 also offers its customers a complimentary “to and from” shuttle service.

Eco-friendly products at no extra charge Honest-1’s services also exceed the industry standards, with a full offering of eco-friendly products used during vehicle service and repairs, at no extra cost to customers. New in the company’s eco-friendly line is a refined oil that is 100 percent recycled and a biodegradable oil made from animal fat, Henkel says. The biodegradable line has no petroleum base, which makes it 100 percent eco-friendly, Henkel adds. “Both of those products meet all of the federal safety and vehicle manufacturer standards. Those are two options to help reduce the amount of pollutants put into the environment when products are disposed of,” Henkel adds. Eco-friendly products can be used in automobile services from fuel treatments to transmission care, at no extra cost to customers. In addition to the new line of ecofriendly oil products, Honest-1 also offers a full array of water-based cleansers for parts, biodegradable soap and other recycled products. The certified technicians practice oil-water separation maintenance on customers’ vehicles. “We offer that additional benefit to our service, and customers can choose to help the environment, again at no extra cost, when they bring their car to Honest-1 Auto Care,” Henkel says. “It’s part of our regular, everyday offering, and it benefits both the customer and the environment.” Auto care treatments created to reduce emissions are also available at Honest-1, such as a fuel-maintenance

process to remove deposits. That attention to detail and commitment to overall care leads clients to rank Honest-1 among the top providers of full-service automobile repair.

Growing in the community The staff at Honest-1 also gives back by being active in the Roseville community and local school districts. “That’s a big deal to us. We do a variety of fundraising programs, and we’re involved in the schools,” Henkel says. “We are really big believers that we wouldn’t be here without the support of the people that live in our community and we feel a responsibility to support that community.” In addition to Roseville, Honest-1 has locations in Cottage Grove, Eagan, Anoka and the Uptown neighborhood in Minneapolis. In the coming months, locations will open in Burnsville and Blaine, as the company continues to expand its excellent auto service into other communities. Whether they bring vehicles in for a basic oil change, scheduled tune-up or engine repair, customers will leave Honest-1 Auto Care knowing they’ve gotten superb service from certified technicians - with the added confidence ensured by an outstanding warranty. “The quality of service we offer sets Honest-1 Auto Care above the rest,” Kelly says.

Build connections through the St. Anthony Area Chamber of Commerce

N

estled within the hustle and bustle of the Twin Cities metro area is a rare gem called St. Anthony Village. “It’s a safe community that’s well maintained,” says St. Anthony Area Chamber of Commerce president Eric Bloom, who grew up in St. Anthony. “It’s an attractive place to live and work.” Along with easy access to both St. Paul and Minneapolis, St. Anthony offers all the benefits of a city with a hometown-feel and thriving business community. The St. Anthony Area Chamber of Commerce aims to leverage the community’s many golden attributes to foster business growth and retention. The Chamber, with roughly 80 active members, meets monthly to provide ample opportunities for local businesses and professionals to connect with each other, as well as with city, county and state officials. “It’s important that cities and businesses are working together for the common good,” Bloom explains. “And through the Chamber, we get opportunities to present elected officials with issues facing the business community.” Additionally, the Chamber is no longer exclusive to the area within St. Anthony city limits, and now also offers memberships to individuals or businesses in the surrounding area. As a result, networking opportunities are better than ever, Bloom adds. “For the most part, the community’s local businesses depend on word of mouth for support,” Bloom says.

Tom Miller - Berger Transfer, Chamber treasurer; Scott Salita - Chiropractors of St. Anthony/NE; Tony Fragnito - St. Anthony Bulletin newspaper, past president; Luke Juhl - Unity Construction; Eric Bloom - Cox Insurance, president; Jodi Saeko Chandler Place, vice president; Steve Sparks - Culver’s; Dr. Mike Petersen - Family Dentistry, secretary.

Networking while helping a good cause In addition to supporting local businesses, the Chamber also provides members with an opportunity to give back to their community, Bloom notes. Chamber-sponsored events include: participation in the city’s summer festival, Village Fest; a local candidate forum during campaign season; a holiday lighting contest; a holiday “Adopt a Family” program; and the Chamber’s annual Golf Classic. The Golf Classic is the Chamber’s largest fundraiser, and allows the organization to provide scholarships to St. Anthony Village High School seniors who have served as active volunteers in

the community and are interested in pursuing careers in business. The Chamber also sponsored a luncheon during the recent International Youth Summit, which the St. AnthonyNew Brighton School District hosted this fall. Maintaining a solid relationship with the local school district is a top priority for the Chamber, Bloom adds, especially since many students choose to remain in the St. Anthony community through their adult years - just as he did. “I think the pay-it-forward mentality is important,” Bloom says. “Ultimately, a lot of these kids will become a part of the St. Anthony business community.” And in a community that’s attractive to aspiring professionals, young

families and seniors alike, housing is in high demand, Bloom explains, and local businesses will continue to benefit from an influx of residents. Bloom notes that the redevelopment of Silver Lake Village has also been a boon to the area. And though the St. Anthony community is considered almost fully developed, Bloom notes there are a handful of open storefronts that could be great options for new businesses. The Chamber, he adds, would more than welcome new faces. “We’re looking to grow, expand and attract new, active members,” Bloom says.

The Truman Company: a trusted name in coins

W

hen it comes to navigating the world of rare coins and precious metals, people have found a trusted guide in Roger Westerling for well over three decades. Sometimes, customers come to The Truman Company to find out the value of a coin or a coin collection so they can sell it. Others want an appraisal so they know a little more about their possessions, says Westerling, owner of The Truman Company in Roseville. And, in a scene that echoes Westerling’s own past, sometimes a neophyte walks in with a coin and a certain gleam in the eye – and leaves with a wealth of knowledge and a newly-minted passion for coins. After 36 years in business, there are plenty of repeat customers at The Truman Company. Westerling’s recipe for continued success is simple: unmatched knowledge of his field and a commitment to building and keeping trust. “We focus on good service and honesty.” Westerling is a life member of the American Numismatic Association with an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. He’s been trusted with collections that are too big for their owners to bring into the office. This is where his sterling customer service really shines. “I’m more than happy to come out to their home or bank,” he says. Either in-store or off-site, he spends whatever time it takes to make sure he’s provided a meticulous appraisal. And if someone is interested in selling a collection, they can be assured Westerling won’t “cherrypick” a few valuable coins and leave them with the rest. He says it’s only fair to do business on their terms, and with his experience and contacts, he can handle a wide range of inventory. “There’s a market for everything,” he says. For one thing, the business

In their words Think the coin business is chancy, confusing and, well, rigged against you? These clients of The Truman Company found that with the right advisor, it isn’t. “Once my wife and I determined that we wanted to have precious metals in our portfolio, we contacted one of the highly advertised national providers of these products. The discussion was clear, but the process

Westerling began as a storefront for local customers now counsels people from thousands of miles away. Thanks to the digital age, The Truman Company now counts an estimated 2,500 active clients around the country. Westerling learned the trade from his uncle Truman, a California coin dealer who crisscrossed the country in a quest to find the most coveted coins. “Every time he visited my family, he gave me a coin that had an interesting history. His hope was that I would foster a real interest in rare and unusual coins,” Westerling says. And it worked! While old coins appreciate gradually, precious metals have seen a dramatic spikes in value. From 2002 to 2012, the value of silver went up 456 percent and gold 478 percent. “I honestly think the prices for gold and silver will continue to rise during our lifetime,” Westerling says. The Truman Company has also undergone some major changes in the past year – moving to a new suite that doubled the space to accommodate additional staff and an increased client base. But the business is still easy to find, at the same office building.

felt cumbersome. . . Just prior to making the phone call to finalize the purchase, we contacted The Truman Company for a second opinion. We were very glad we did. Roger made sure we understood the entire buy-sell process, all the fees involved and what to expect after the sale. We made the purchase through Truman and the products were delivered directly to our front door within days. We felt that we were important to them and that they would take care of any issues that might arise. We will definitely use them

Another addition to the suite: space for a dog bed and water bowl for “Sonny,” a Lab-retriever mix – golden retriever, of course. As with so many of Westerling’s decisions, Sonny was a sound investment. “He’s great with customers and adds a special welcome to the place.” Curious about a collection? Concerned about a pending purchase? There’s help right around the corner. “My staff and I are dedicated to helping people preserve and grow their wealth, just like my Uncle Truman did,” Westerling says. “That is why I started The Truman

in the future and truly recommend them to anyone.” – K. B., Michigan “I had many negative experiences in the coin industry. The Truman Company is the first and only coin dealer I have ever dealt with that has been forthright and honest. And I hasten to say the only coin dealer from whom I have had a profit. . . If you had an honest dealer as I believe The Truman Company to be, stay with them just as you would keep an honest and capable mechanic.” – C.A., Virginia Company.” You can hear the Truman Company and Roger Westerling featured in the Brett Winterble Show, Monday through Friday from 9-10pm Eastern on XM Talk 168. Pearl Garden is decorated to make memory care residents feel right at home.

Chandler Place, Pearl Garden offer a long history of “firsts”

C

handler Place and the St. Anthony Health Care Center have a long history of being “first.” The St. Anthony Health Center was one of the first senior care facilities in Minnesota to incorporate “a continuum of care,” which adjusts as a person’s individual needs change. The St. Anthony Health Center began serving seniors in the St. Anthony community in 1967. Chandler Place was completed in 1986, and Pearl Garden was added a decade later to service residents that suffer from memory loss. Today, Chandler Place offers assisted-living apartments for those who need a little help in meeting their daily needs. Residents also receive priority access to the secure and homey Pearl Garden memory care assisted living apartments for those affected by Alzheimer’s and other forms of memory loss. If more care is eventually needed, the St. Anthony Health Center is located in the same complex as Pearl Garden and Chandler Place and is connected by indoor walkways. Minnesota’s first female nursing home administrator, Marian Post, opened St. Anthony Health Center and Chandler Place. In addition, she was the first woman inducted into the American College of Nursing Home Administrators. In 2005, Chandler Place received the Excellence in Assisted Living Award from the Care Providers of Minnesota. Chandler Place was the first to win an award given specifically to an assistedliving program. Several years ago, Chandler Place was one of the first facilities in Minnesota to offer a Dakim computer system that offers customized mental workouts. Studies have shown that seniors who use this program regularly have a 63 percent lower risk of developing dementia. In addition, studies have proven that the Dakim computer

system also lessens depression in the elderly. Studies have shown that mental stimulation, such as the program offered by Dakim, can make an older person less susceptible to Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. In fact, the New England Journal of Medicine noted that

people who frequently participated in cognitively stimulating activities had a 63 percent lower risk of developing dementia over those who used such activities less. In addition, higher participation often meant less depression in the elderly. Another innovative program

can be found in Pearl Garden, which is tailored for residents with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Newly renovated, the Pearl Garden offers common areas reminiscent of a seaside beach house. The area is decorated with three-dimensional paintings and other touches of home. The Pearls of Life memory care program, offered to all Pearl Garden residents, focuses on each person’s strengths and promotes new successes each day. Caregivers are highly trained in a nationally recognized training course for Alzheimer’s and dementia patients and use Service Minder, a software program that tracks each resident’s daily care. At Chandler Place, Pearl Garden, and the St. Anthony Health Center, your loved one will always be “first.”

PJW Automotive: car care you can count on

N

ow that a few winter storms have swept through the Twin Cities, vehicle owners need not despair — experienced technicians at PJW Automotive can repair all the damage left by the snow, ice and those pesky potholes. Reliable and affordable car care is the business of owner Patrick Whelan, whose philosophy is to do right by his customers to keep them coming back. And that strategy works; it has kept PJW Automotive in business for over 30 years. Now, second and third generation customers regularly come through the door, and Whelan knows most of them by name. In addition to longtime customers, PJW Automotive has also kept the same three trusted technicians on staff for years. “We like seeing our customers over and over again,” Whelan says. “And they like seeing familiar faces as well.” Most businesses in the industry see high staff turnover, Whelan points out, but PJW stands apart from the rest. Shop supervisor Tom Ferron, for example, has been with Whelan for the past 32 years. Ferron and mechanics Mike London and Tom Richter have advanced certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, and they specialize in all fields of repair. PJW Automotive technicians are well versed in domestic brands like GM, Ford and Chrysler, as well as international brands such as Toyota, Honda and Nissan. That expertise makes PJW Automotive a one-stop shop for families with multiple vehicles. Every vehicle’s repairs are tracked and Whelan offers a maintenance plan for each customer. This helps them decide which fixes are priorities, and which can wait. “Today’s economy is tough,” Whelan says. “And we try to be understanding of that and pay attention to our customers’ budgets.” As a result of the still-struggling economy, more people are choosing to hang onto their cars and squeeze the maximum life out of them. That’s good news for the car-repair industry, Whelan adds, but the staff at PJW Automotive want to make sure customers are aware of all of their options.

“We’re going to be sensitive to our customers’ needs, whether it be maintaining newer vehicles or fixing old ones,” Whelan explains. PJW’s care for their customers and attention to detail are unique, but so are some of the tools they use to aid in repair work. Just as the economy has changed, so has car-care technology. In the past year, the PJW crew has

added several new tools to enhance their services. A computer system hooks up to vehicles to digitally diagnose problems, and the shop recently added a sophisticated ATEQ tire pressure monitoring system to monitor the tire pressure and help diagnose warning light problems. PJW Automotive also has found ways to improve communication, Whelan explains, noting that cus-

St. Anthony Kiwanis Club Serving the local and global community

T

he word Kiwanis comes from an Indian word meaning “we build,” and considering all the St. Anthony Kiwanis Club’s community-building activities, the term fits. Chartered in 1962, the St. Anthony Kiwanis Club consists of businesspeople, friends and neighbors, retirees and those with a desire to serve the community and make it a better place. “We have a lot of fun at club meetings, but the most important aspect is the service we provide to the local community,” says Club President John Dierbeck. Kiwanis members are active in the community, especially in local schools. They enjoy reading to children and often distribute donations, such as shoes and blankets, to kids who need them most. The club also supports youth programs including the K-Kids Club, Builders Club, Key Club and Aktion Club, and encourages children to get involved in their communities. “We invest in the future generations by serving the children,” Dierbeck explains. The club also fundraises to support local food shelves, Feed My Starving Children, scholarship programs, Camp Courage, Special Olympics, Meals on Wheels and the Salvation Army. In addition to the St. Anthony Kiwanis Club’s local efforts, Kiwanis as a whole has joined UNICEF in an effort to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus across the globe. This deadly disease is known as MNT and once contracted, the fatality rate can reach 100 percent in some of the poorest areas in the world. Without adequate healthcare, newborns can suffer repeated convulsions and are painfully sensitive to light and even their own mothers’ touch. Although tragic, the disease is preventable. Together with UNICEF, Kiwanis clubs support funding to get these women vaccinated, which will protect babies they deliver in the future. Dierbeck says providing selfless, human and philanthropic service to build better communities, not just locally but globally as well, is what the St. Anthony Kiwanis club is all about. “It has been said that you’ve never really lived until you’ve done something for someone who can never repay you,’’ Dierbeck says. “Many times we are content to sit back and let someone else do most of the work, but the real reward is great satisfaction in the knowledge that you have helped to change the world, one child and one community at a time.” The St. Anthony Kiwanis Club meets at noon on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at Culver’s for meals, general-interest or special project speakers. The club also meets at 7:30 a.m. on the third Wednesday of the month. For more information about joining the St. Anthony Kiwanis Club, call President John Dierbeck at 612790-4832.

Abbey Carpet tops Angie’s List of exemplary businesses

F

olks in this area know that Abbey Carpet of Mounds View offers them the best products and service available. John Kopas and business partner Tom Link have been spreading the word, and now the million-plus people who use consumer reviews on Angie’s List also know Abbey Carpet is tops. The “Super Service Award” Angie’s List bestowed upon Abbey Carpet shows that it’s one of only 5 percent of companies rated nationwide that receives top marks from customers. “This isn’t anything we could have applied for or pursued,” Kopas says. “This all came from our customers.” The Angie’s List rating follows another from the nonprofit organization Consumers’ Checkbook, which also compiles customer reviews. In Checkbook’s listing, Abbey Carpet in Mounds View posts a solid 100 percent satisfaction rate in “overall service” compared to a metro-wide average rating of 53 percent. What difference does Abbey’s consulting expertise and trained installation crew make? “You can find the same carpet somewhere else, but the installation is everything,” Kopas says. He’s backed up by Consumers’ Checkbook, which warns homeowners to check installers’ work for “wrinkles or ripples, gaps between wall and carpet edge, unusually conspicuous seams, irregular seams, inconsistent shaping of carpet on steps” as well as glue stains and damage to walls. Poorly installed flooring can be even worse and more expensive for another contractor to correct. Wood planks that shrink and gap, substandard underlayment, cracking ceramic and sloppy grout are just the beginning. “People think they’re getting a deal at big-box stores, but they often regret having to live with the

results,” Kopas says. Although people may be able to find their carpet and flooring choice somewhere other than Kopas’ store, it is hard to imagine them doing so without a couple of weeks and several tanks of gas. Abbey’s 10,000-square-foot space showcases nearly 50 carpet brands, over 20 wood-flooring brands and myriad choices in tile, ceramic and stone floors. From cork to teak wood, plush shag to commercial carpet and marble to slate, you can find just what you’re looking for. Abbey Carpet also carries area rugs and

window treatments, so customers can see for themselves they’ve chosen the perfect match. And for those who don’t arrive with an idea of what kind of carpet they desire, Abbey Carpet also provides experienced interior designers who will visit your home. “It’s hard sometimes for customers to decide,” Kopas states. “With the thousands of homes we’ve worked in, our designers know what looks good and can give customers that confidence.” Selection, quality and the willingness to stand behind their work - it’s all at Abbey Carpet.

Longtime owner John Kopas purchased his Abbey Carpet franchise in 1973 and opened up shop in New Brighton’s Brighton Village Shopping Center. He operated out of New Brighton for 30 years before moving the business to Mounds View. Kopas and business partner Tom Link, who also has decades of experience, continue to provide the same excellent customer service. At a corporate event in Anaheim, Calif., Kopas was recently awarded Abbey Carpet and Floor's prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award – the only one ever given out. Link says he was delighted when Kopas received the award. “It was wonderful and he deserved it,” Link says. “John is like a second father to me.”
