This also marks the largest single donation the organization has received in its 9-year history. “This is one of the most important and heartwarming charitable acts I have ever witnessed or had the privilege to be a part of,” said Mayor Pro Tem Steve Broadbent and Chairman of the Johns Creek Public Safety Foundation. “Cori is one of the most giving persons you will ever meet, and her generosity will go a long way in helping our first responders when they face personal emergencies and are in need of assistance.” Davenport was elected to the Johns Creek City Council in 2013 and declined to accept any salary with the intent of donating it to the Johns Creek Public Safety Foundation at the outset. However, there was not a precedent for such an act and a variety of other factors combined to delay the reallocation of her salary. Johns Creek City Council positions are part-time and earn an annual salary of $15,000.

SMOOTH MOVES The Johns Creek Public Works Department has finished its third round of a four-year program to repave its neighborhood streets. Repaving crews resurfaced 22.76 miles of streets in 17 subdivisions, including The Falls of Autry Mill, one of the City’s largest. Crews also repaved three main roads: Rogers Circle, Findley Road, and Morton Road. “We are thrilled to have completed another year of the repaving initiative,” said Mayor Mike Bodker. “The Public Works Department has done an exceptional job of continuing the program and more of our City’s neighborhoods are enjoying repaired streets and enhanced curb appeal.” In 2011, a consultant drove a specially equipped vehicle down each of Johns Creek’s streets to gauge their conditions. Using that data as a guide, the Public Works staff developed a repaving plan for the City’s subdivisions.In 2017, the City budgeted approximately $5,000,000 to resurface subdivision roads and approximately $687,000 to repave main roads.

STEPPING UP TO THE FRONT DESK AT THE EURO-SHIEK SOFITEL NEW YORK HOTEL ON 44TH ST AND FIFTH AVE., I FELT LIKE ROYALTY. Two team members immediately stopped what they were doing and snapped to attention, looking me in the eye with interest and warmth. No tap-tapping on keyboards or distracted side conversations. They welcomed us, discreetly inquired about any special needs and quickly checked us in, insisting they accompany us to our room on the 26th floor, just four from the top of the midtown Manhattan reflective glass and limestone beauty. Our king room was a roomy 400 square feet with all the luxury amenities you’d expect from a 4-diamond property. The marble bath with Lanvin products, a separate tub and shower and quite lovely lighting made primping fun. Spring for a suite and you’ll find Hermes products at the ready. The “SoBed” (a branded heavenly combination of softness and support) was heaped with down pillows, a down duvet and high thread count sheets that made me want to 1) jump upon it 2) fall into it 3) get under the covers for days. When I did later, I discovered the quietest night’s sleep I’d ever experienced in the Big Apple. Now, that’s luxury. The on-site restaurant, Gaby, offers contemporary French cuisine in an art deco-inspired setting. It’s open daily for lunch and dinner. 2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting 4 large eggs WHAT YOU DO

1. Mound the flour in the center of a work surface with a well in the middle. Crack the eggs into the well and beat with a fork until smooth, then work flour into eggs with the fork. Use a bench scraper to work in the rest of the flour a little at a time. When the flour is incorporated, form the dough with your hands into a rounded mass for kneading. Lightly dust your workspace with flour and knead dough about 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Cover dough with a bowl or plastic wrap and rest 1 1/2 hours, or chill overnight. 2. To roll by hand, flour a clean work surface. Vigorously roll dough to a very thin circle and roll constantly with even pressure as it stretches for several minutes until as thin as possible, almost translucent. 3. 1/2 cup heavy cream 8 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 1 cup cocoa powder, for dusting WHAT YOU DO

1. Bring the cream to just a simmer in a saucepan over low heat. Pour the cream over the chocolate in a bowl and let stand about 10 minutes to melt the chocolate. Add the vanilla, stir until smooth and set aside to cool for 1 hour at room temperature. 2. Beat chocolate at medium speed until thick and light-colored. Spread over the bottom of a baking dish, smooth and refrigerate 2 hours until firm. 3. Pour cocoa powder onto a deep plate or shallow bowl, and using a melon baller or small ice cream scoop, scoop out balls of chocolate.
