ince 1889, when state legislator Alice Merrill Horne introduced a bill establishing the first state arts agency in the country, the Utah Arts Council has been supporting artists by purchasing their work for the State Arts Collection. Today, among a full range of offerings that includes grants, services and programs, the Utah Arts Council operates three public spaces where visitors can enjoy that century-old historic collection as well as some of the newest creations by Utah artists – the very best of Utah art!
The Utah Arts Council, the nation’s oldest state arts agency, was born in 1899.
• Alice Merrill Horne Gallery at the Glendinning Home offers a year-round selection of artwork from the state’s one hundred year-old art collection. • The Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk, in the middle of Liberty Park, offers four galleries – Native American, Rural, Occupational and Ethnic.
