Calendar Maija Pumpure, Arta KÄ le Faculty of Humanities, Liepaja University

Summery The aim of our work was to build up the calendar for year of 2011, bringing together both the Latvian and Lithuanian folkloristic features. To achieve this goal we used elements of the Lithuanian national costume and ethnographic signs of both countries. Pictures included in the calendar are symbolic and representative of the current month. Month names are in both Latvian and Lithuanian. In Latvian language they are not as now found in the calendar, but those which are used by the ancient tradition of calendars. All the months are written after font created by Julijs Madernieks, which we considered most appropriate. The desired result was achieved between the two countries and folk heritage is marked up in the calendar. We came to the conclusion in creation of this work that there are discernable similarities between the two countries in culture, such as ethnographic symbols.
