Moving pot on the table

Through research I was able to establish the problems with the current pot holders and trivets. I discovered that it is difficult to carry the pot as well as the trivet to the table without making more than one trip. I also found that moving the pot while it is on the table is difficult because the trivet often must be moved separately. The following images reflect my experience with pots, holders, and a trivet in a step by step manner.

Final arrangement

Q UIVET

The Quick Trivet

1

As the contents of the pot are ready or the pot itself needs to be adjusted, the two curved shapes slide onto the handles as pot holders.

2

3

When the hot pot has been centered on the trivet, the wings are folded into the pot and secured with magnets embedded in the silicone holders and trivet. In addition, the user’s desired utensil can be securely placed into the slots located on one of the holders.

When the contents of the pot are ready to be served, it is placed onto the silicone trivet with the aid of the pot holders.

4

As soon as the holders and trivet are securely fastened to one another, the steaming pot is ready to be moved without burning any surface or the user’s hands

Two different sized slots in an ideal shape to hold any utensil

Uniquely shaped holders to accommodate a variety of pot handles Magnets embedded in the silicone during construction to prevent wear and tear Trivet wings and holders designed to overlap and fit onto any sized pot Small crevice aids the bending of the trivet wings

Smooth plastic feet are located at the bottom of the trivet for easy sliding

Q UIVET

The Quick Trivet

With four simple steps, the three parts to Quivet assemble to become pot holders, a utensil holder, and a trivet in one. The entire process takes no more than a few seconds and reduces the number of trips from the kitchen to the table. Additionally, the pot holders can be used without the trivet if desired.

Each aspect of Quivet is designed to ease the difficulty of serving a meal. Every piece is made of silicone which is a material known for its durability, flexibility, and low thermal conductivity. In addition, magnets are embedded for a firm link and easy breakdown. Finally, the form is designed to accommodate a variety of pot and utensil sizes. These characteristics make Quivet the perfect accessory for a modern family’s kitchen.

The Dehumidifier Plant Watering System

The intention for this eight week project was to create a new product that hydrates plants in a unique way. I chose to focus on resource conservation as well as self sustaibability.

Styling

Lighting:

If you don’t have good window placement and lighting There are special grow lights. However, one can use regular 'shop' fluorescent lights which will improve the growth of indoor potted herbs.

Watering:

It is important that all containers can adequately drain and that the plants are not over watered. Air is also very important for potted plants and over-watering allows root-rot fungus to thrive.

Herbs:

Herbs can be grown indoors on suitable window sills. When growing indoor herbs be sure there is plenty of light.

Dehumidifiers:

Dehumidifiers remove moisture from the air using techniques which condense the moisture with a cold surface. A dehumidifier is simply an air conditioner that has both its hot and cold coils in the same box.

UV Lighting: Turns on when not enough light measured in the room Pot: Fits perfectly within frame Frame: Water and electricity travels through the frames and the connecting pipes Removable: Each piece removes from base for form customization Indicator Light: Indicated when there is a shortage of water or nutrients in the water Power Button Air Vents: One side for incoming air and one side for outgoing air Interior: Plenty of room for a reservoir and dehumidifier components Front Cover: Hides internal components and removes for easy maintenance

In addition to being eco-friendly, Herbal Eden satisfies the needs of today’s ever-changing styles and trends because it is a modular system in which the individual parts can be manufactured using different materials and colors.

erbal Eden

The Dehumidifier Plant Watering System

Herbal Eden was inspired from the rise in popularity of ‘green’ products. The systems not only conserves the Earth’s resources by feeding plants with the water that usually goes to waste, but it is also a self sustaining system, perfect for a busy lifestyle.

Portable Dental Chair and Dolly

Mantis is my senior thesis in which I intended to create a new portable dental chair that would improve portable dentistry in third-world countries.

Portable Dental Chair and Dolly

Height adjustment Isolated headrest Intuitive controls Position presets Easy to clean upholstery

• Light weight yet sturdy • Isolated headrest • Easy to clean upholstery • Collapsible • Low costs

• People going over seas for dentistry are carrying a lot of equipment, so they don’t want to carry a heavy chair too • It is important to consider costs because most organizations do not have a lot of money • The ideal position for the dentist and the patient depends on what the patient is comfortable with • An isolated headrest is very important so that the dentist can move around the patient’s head freely

Equipment

• performs extractions and treats caries, acute pulp and acitacclisove diseases • gives instruction in oral hygiene, dietary counseling, caries prevention, and oral concern screening

• Ram - Remote Area Dental Care: • a publicly supported all-volunteer charitable organization • offers emergency extractions, restorations, cleanings, and fluoride treatments

• Dental care ranges from a stick and rock to break off the offending tooth, to a dentist who may travel there to practice modern dentistry • The easiest and cheapest way to transport your supplies and equipment is to carry it as part of your luggage • Sea freight is the cheapest way to go, but may take three months or longer • Air freight is quicker, but much more expensive • Most portable dental chairs range from $800 to $1550 without including extras such as a carrying case • Some portable dental equipment can be rented for a lower cost

• Tooth Decay: Common Problems

• Physicians for Peace: Existing Programs

Portable Dentistry Third World Dental Care

• Most dental offices are equipped with large hydraulic dental chairs, a compressor, drill unit, cabinets and an array of equipment that could not easily be moved out of the dental office • A big part of the problem in delivering portable dental care is the need for adequate equipment • Most “portable” equipment is so large that it must be airlifted by helicopter • Portable equipment is generally very expensive to purchase • Equipment tends to break down and is unable to be replaced or repaired.

• Also known as dental caries or cavity • Untreated tooth decay can lead to bad breath, foul tastes, pain, inadequate nutrition, and speech problems

• Abscessed Teeth: • A painful infection at the root of a tooth or between the gum and a tooth • Cause openings in the tooth enamel, which allows bacteria to infect the center of the tooth

can be used for transporting any heavy equipment. In addition, because the chair is made of light weight materials, it does not add any extra burden to the load.

In addition to functioning as a dolly, Mantis has features that allow the chair to be adjusted to the patients every need. The headrest can be moved up or down nearly any sized patient and the reclining angle can be in nearly any position.

32

Mantis is the perfect solution to today’s problems in portable dentistry. Not only does it act as a great dental chair, but when collapsed, the product is used as a dolly to carry other bulky and heavy equipment. The materials used to manufacture Mantis are also inexpensive, reducing the cost of the chair as a whole. Any traveling dentist would be delighted to have Mantis by their side.

Portable Dental Chair and Dolly

Through the creation of a functioning, full-scale model, I was able to prove the feasibility of Mantis. To build the model, I used a hydrolic tube-bender for the steel tubing and a mill for the aluminum joints. If manufactured, Mantis would be constructed from more light-weight materials. The use of vinyl for the uphostery proves the cleanliness and sanitation of the product.

Lumiere Sakura &

Lumiere and Sakura were designed for mass production and easy shipment. Each piece is created to easily slide into one another using a unique jointing system which allows the lamp to be quickly collapsed and reassembled. This is an important aspect of the design because it allows the user to move the large floor lamp within their home.

As well as mobility, the use of a CNC and flat materials allows Lumiere ad Sakura to be shipped in a small, flat box. Today’s increasing need for material conservation was an inspiration for this unique style of lamp. Not only is there less packaging needed for storing and shipping, but there is a very small amount of wasted material from the construction.
