Architecture has always been a wondrous mystery worth the exploration of many. Throughout time this subject has shaped the lives, communities and the interactions between individuals through the use of art and science. A tool which has been used to serve, support and, sometimes, influence its subjects. At the hands of the (sometimes) self-righteous architects or master craftsman, architecture has been a constantly morphing orb of realism. This subject is so dynamic I sometimes find myself asking various questions. What is architecture? What is its agenda? Whom should it serve and support? And who should be given the responsibility of erecting it? Think. Feel. Create. Inspire. These are the goals an architect has the responsibilities of fulfilling.

“To express is to drive. And when you want to give something presence, you have to consult nature. And there is where Design comes in. And if you think of Brick, for instance, and you say to Brick, “What do you want Brick?” And Brick says to you, “I like an Arch.” And if you say to Brick, “Look, arches are expensive, and I can use a concrete lentil over you. What do you think of that?” “...Brick?” Brick says, “... I like an Arch” ”

- Louis Kahn

think.

To “THINK” is an essential component of the design process in order to holistically evaluate existing conditions and concerns. An architect has the responsibility to acknowledge the primary objective of a project and to consider the direct and indirect effects propositions have on users and the surrounding environment.

feel.

To “FEEL” is the ability to insert oneself into a design; the ability to insert oneself into the proposed plan in order to form spaces versus drafting plans. Feeling and understanding the proposed design and its linking networks will inherently allow oneself to rationalize meaning of existence into materiality.

create.

To “CREATE” is the ability to bring thoughts and feelings into the fruition of innovation.

inspire.

To “INSPIRE” is the manifestation of thinking, feeling and creating. This manifestation encourages the actions and grants the users allowance to respond to the creation and the ability to utilize it for its full intended purpose while promoting the unforeseen utility of the creation. The unforeseen utility of the creation provides the opportunity to inspire creativity, while fostering comfort and safety thereby establishing a sound environmental response. Inspiration from the creation should motivate users to think, feel and to create within their own realm of study continuing the cycle of innovation. These are the overall goals which I strive to meet with all my design projects and tenets that should be embodied in all architectural works.
