Feds OK airline service for western Kansas GARDEN CITY — Flights between Garden City and Dallas are expected to begin next spring, after federal authorities chose American Eagle to provide commercial air service between the cities. The U.S. Department of Transportation told the city on Monday that it had selected American Eagle to provide 14 round-trip flights per week to and from Dallas on a 44-seater jet. The department also selected Great Lakes Airlines as the Essential Air Service provider for Dodge City, Liberal, Hays and Great Bend. Those cities will continue to be connected with Denver. The Garden City Telegram reports that Garden City officials say they hope the service to Dallas will begin by April. The Essential Air Services program helps fund commercial air service at small or rural airports like those in western Kansas possible.

Pretty Lights Music Showcase Tonight’s best bet is for electronic music enthusiasts. The Pretty Lights Music Showcase comes to the Granada, 1020 Mass., and brings with it three producer/MC/beat-makers, all worth a listen. Michal Menert is a Polish-born longtime U.S. resident whose beats are informed by obscure European samples and a terminally chill sensibility that makes him a perfect option if you’re looking for low-key music. If you’re not in the mood to lower your blood pressure, there’s always Gramatik, pictured. Also on the Pretty Lights Music Label, Gramatik’s music is heavily influenced by contemporary and ’80s rock music. This gives him an edgier sound, especially when compared to his Polish counterpart. Perhaps the most thrilling act attached to this electrotrifecta is SuperVision. His music effectively splits the difference between Menert and Gramatik, as he cycles between phases of downkey minimalism and multilayered euphoria, which, incidentally is my favorite kind of euphoria. Tonight’s show is all ages and costs $13 in advance and $15 at the door. It starts at 9 p.m.
