The Prevailing Research Culture of Graduate Students Sol G. Simbulan Bukidnon State University Philippines 9:15 – 9:35 August 20 – Kamagong Hall Research culture of graduate students comprises the patterns of research behavior and thinking. The descriptive method of research was utilized in the study. One hundred three randomly selected graduate students from the five masters degree program of Bukidnon State University (BSU) Graduate School served as the respondents of the study. Results revealed that of the nine subculture indicators for research, the graduate students strongly agreed that they practiced six, namely: (a) compliance of requirements, (b) accountability, (c) collaborative climate, (d) research ethics, (e) scholarly presentations, and (f) benchmarking. They agree that the indicators on publication and dissemination, mentoring and scientific inquiry were also evident in the University. Of the six different degree programs, the graduate students in English Language Teaching, Educational Administration, Science Education, and Mathematics Education indicated that they strongly agreed on the presence of the indicators of research culture, while the Guidance Counseling and Public Administration students simply agreed that BSU graduate school fosters these. The responses of the student in both the open-ended questionnaire and the focus group discussion have similar strands of thoughts on the indicators investigated in the study. The study concluded that majority of the respondents indicated that the research culture is achieved in the actual conduct of a research study which is culminated by their thesis writing.

Experiences in the Commercialization Potential of Suksuk for Hand Woven Silk Fabric Rubelyn V. Delfin rvd_37@yahoo.com Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University Philippines 9:36 – 9:55 August 20 – Kamagong Hall Suksuk is a distinct heritage of the Filipinos. This weave designing technique is unique and intricate. However, this method is limited only to a few old weavers and now this has become a dying industry. The experience of losing such heritage has promoted research on product development that would revive the industry and making a trademark in Philippine Silk. The study documented the steps and its designs. As to date, 21 designs were adopted to suit silk. The economic analysis of each design was computed and analyzed. Among all the designs, the mass production of double cross diamond and block showed profitability but it is not logical to invest. The commercialization of the silk fabrics produced was included in the fashion show and are regularly displayed at the one-stop-shop of the institute and to the exhibits and trade fairs attended. Moreover, the designed butterfly, binakol diamond and IPB logo was one of the DMMMSU uniforms for its employees, for the Senators and Congressman of the Republic of the Philippines and lawyers of Region I respectively in support to RA 9242. For CY 2008-2010, a total sale amounting to P 1,409,356.00 was realized and is expected to grow in the market.
