The Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters are coming off their best season in school history after finishing 15-6-0 in 2010. With a 5-3-0 record in the Western Athletic Conference, Tech tied for third and qualified for their first ever conference tournament. Part of the team’s success can be credited to this year’s seven-member senior class. Entering 2011, the seniors have helped Tech compile a 3718-5 record in three seasons. They have carried most of the load during their time in Ruston and have been a part of the three most successful seasons in the program’s history. The seniors have also helped the team increase its win total each year and look to do the same in 2011 after only losing one senior from 2010’s squad. “This year’s seniors were my first recruiting class and they have been the main reason why this program has improved so much,” said head coach Kevin Sherry. “Their sacrifice, hard work, determination, passion for the sport, support of their teammates and loyalty to the program and coaching staff is nothing short of miraculous. They will play a huge role this season, and I can only hope that the next generation of players learn from their example.” Competition for time on the field will be high at every position this season. The Lady Techsters have 10 newcomers on the roster, nine whom are freshmen. “I am excited about the incoming class to see which of them settles in the quickest and who is mentally tough enough to meet the challenges ahead to contribute to the team,” Sherry said. Tech is lead offensively by senior forward Rachel King (O’Fallon, Mo.). Last season she led the team with 13 goals including her third career hat trick against McNeese State. In the record book, King is the all-time leading goal scorer and is currently tied for the most career points. Playing time alongside of King will be a tough battle as six players, four of them freshmen, look for time on the field.
