ort of Santo Tomas de Castilla Company has designed two projects to address short-term lack of capacity and another to consolidate the supply of services to containerized cargo. Its locations are shown in the aerial photograph. The first two are: Berth 1 and 2 habilitation that will allowed the operation of mobile cranes in the first phase and crane gantries in the second phase for loading and unloading of containers. The habilitation will take place through the strengthening of the piles supporting the pier and the placement of beams on the rails for the gantry cranes. The project also includes the reclassification of the areas located behind piers 1 and 2

to increase the productivity on container stacking. The second of the short-term projects is the construction of a dolphintype dock with two piers for oil loading and unloading. It will be located about 800 meters in a perpendicular alignment to the end of the wharf (Pier 6), out of the maneuvering dock and near the access channel. The pipelines will be accommodated in a vault buried in the marine bed up to the littoral, continuing hereby to a point about 800 meters inland (limit of the port enclosure). These short-term improvements will provide the port with six berths for containers, which will increase pier capacity at about 1.2 million teu annually. Above all, they will offer a significant improvement in the quality of service to users.
