chtung! From the state of Bavaria in Germany comes Bavaria Motorboats. You may be familiar with Bavaria’s sailboats, but the company is now entering the North America market with three new powerboats, including the Sport 39 Hardtop. Bavaria Yachtbau GmbH has been building sail- and powerboats up to 55 feet since 1978, so it’s not their first time at the rodeo. All boats are manufactured in Giebelstadt, Germany, to maximize cost efficiencies and quality. The Sport 39 Hardtop comes with Volvo Penta diesel engines ranging from 260 hp (standard) to 370 hp. With the big engines, cruise at 27 knots (31 mph) up to a top speed around 35 knots (40 mph). If the interior could make a sound, it would probably be “SNAP!” The solid mahogany wood (light oak or teak optional) and veneer finish is a sharp contrast to the standard light upholstery and covered panel ceiling. Forward is a double berth with lockers, opening portholes and hatch. Additional accommodations are aft with twin berths, opening portholes and bench seat. Midship is the salon with port-side U-shaped settee and table. Across is the galley with ceramic cooktop, 12-volt

Gain more openness by activating the retractable sunroof. “This is a dynamic and elegant 39-foot speedboat,” says Bavaria North America general manager Blane Aarup. In pointing out some features, Aarup adds, “Its teak throughout, down to the extended swim platform, cockpit and side decks.” Underwater lights, bow thruster, hydraulic swim platform, air conditioning, generator, electronics and other items are options that can be added as desired. This boat could very well be the best thing to come out of Bavaria since Oktoberfest. LB
