Reach Out Kansas, Inc. was sponsor of “In the Shadow of No Towers” and “Journey to Carnegie Hall.” 2015 - Steven Spooner – The Legacy Piano Series A 15-volume CD box set of piano music from antiquity to the present, embracing a myriad of styles and genres. Each album includes commentary interweaving fascinating stories of the piano with the personal and artistic journey of Steven Spooner, taking him from studies in his hometown of New Orleans to the Paris Conservatory, to the Moscow and Tbilisi Conservatories in the former Soviet Union, and Indiana University, Bloomington, to the performance of hundreds of concerts and recitals on four continents. “The Legacy Piano Series” will be a gift of Steven Spooner and Reach Out Kansas, Inc. to schools, public libraries, and assisted living and skilled nursing care facilities throughout Kansas and Kansas City Metro, for downloading via an internet site, as well as through a 15-CD box set. Reach Out Kansas, Inc. is sponsoring “Steven Spooner – The Legacy Piano Series”.


2016 – KU Jazz Ensemble I – Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall, Broadway at 60th Street, New York City KU Jazz Ensemble I – Dan Gailey, director of jazz studies “Best College Jazz Ensemble”, Graduate Division / 38th Annual Downbeat Magazine Student Music Awards KU Jazz Ensemble I was selected as the finest collegiate jazz ensemble in North America in 2015; the capstone honor of the acclaimed Jazz Studies Program of the KU School of Music. This signature honor for the Ensemble follows numerous Downbeat Magazine Student Music Awards over the years, including these KU Jazz composers and arrangers, and the 2015 Graduate College Winner for “Original Composition – Large Ensemble,” David Von Kampen. Known for both its excellence of performance in the traditional Jazz repertoire and its strong support for new compositions and arrangements for Jazz, the KU Jazz Ensemble I and the KU Jazz Studies Department have been integral to the midwest’s surging Jazz music culture and diverse live entertainment scene. In 2016, KU Jazz Ensemble I will take center stage at the most important jazz performance venue in the world.
