KNMO Policy Plan 2015 2020


Summary

The Koninklijke Nederlandse Muziek Organisatie (‘royal Netherlands music organization,’ KNMO) is the umbrella organization for Dutch amateur music associations. The KNMO, which was founded by merger on 1 January 2014, represents ten regional federations covering 2,348 music associations in the Netherlands and has over 130,000 members. The associations represent a variety of musical genres, including wind orchestras, brass bands, fanfares, youth orchestras and ensembles, big bands, marching bands, show bands, drum corps, piccolo corps, drum & bugle corps, majorette groups, twirling groups, and colour guard groups. The KNMO plans to represent all instrumental amateur music in the Netherlands, which will result in a further concentration of focus in the future. . Strategic objectives Based on the current policy plan, the KNMO supports the development of amateur music in the Netherlands. To this end, it has formulated the following five strategic objectives:

Strengthen the social position of amateur art. Promote cultural participation and cultural education. Increase innovation in the instrumental amateur music sector. Optimize and exploit synergies inside and outside the amateur music sector. Support, facilitate, and profile associations and musicians.

. Organization Safeguarding the autonomy of regional federations is an important focal point for the KNMO. The KNMO is responsible for those aspects that can best be done on a national level and regional and local organizations are responsible for those aspects that can best be taken care of on a regional or local level. The KNMO is a volunteer organization by nature. The administrators in the national umbrella organization, the regional federations, and the local associations are all unpaid volunteers. The KNMO organization is supported by a professional agency. . Conclusion The policy plan forms the foundation for the future development of the KNMO. This plan is developed into an annual operational plan, which forms the basis for the activities that are organized each year.
