The Program Orchestral Study
T
he SSMF maintains two full student orchestras. Each rehearses daily and performs a program of challenging repertoire every week. The Festival Orchestra, comprised of faculty and select students, performs special concerts. The Sewanee Symphony, led each week by a renowned guest conductor, gives our most advanced students an introduction to the real world of orchestra life. Major works are selected to emphasize repertoire important to the young professional. The Cumberland Orchestra, led by Resident Conductor Octavio MรกsArocas, provides training in important orchestral skills while introducing exciting repertoire, from standard to contemporary. Chamber Music Study
All students participate in a chamber ensemble every week, receiving daily coaching from a faculty member. All groups perform weekly, and many ensembles are chosen for a variety of public chamber music concerts each week. Private Study
A
ll students receive a weekly private lesson with one of our artist-faculty. Our faculty work closely with their studios, providing personal attention and support to each student. Master classes are a frequent occurrence. Special Classes
