Happy Dushera & Halloween ! India is a land of festivals and every festival celebrated is symbolic of the religious and socio-cultural aspirations of the people. Each festival in India brings a wave of joy and happiness among the people. We at KIC, hope to give you an insight into the Indian culture through this new section every month. One such important festival of the Hindus in India is the Dussehra, which is also known as 'Vijayadasami'. This festival is celebrated on the tenth day of the bright phase of moon in the month of Ashwina as per the lunar calendar and in the month of October or the first week of November as per the western calendar. This festival symbolizes that good always wins over evil. Durga puja is organized for nine days by setting up huge pandals. People stay awake all night and roam the streets to visit pandals dressed in bright new clothes. Garbha and Dandiya dances are organized and performed by all sects of people. On the tenth day, effigies of demon-king Ravana, are filled with firecrackers and set on fire by characters dressed as Lord Rama and Lakshmana through fire filled arrows. People enjoy the huge fairs and feasts organized along with the Ramlila celebrations. During this time, the female form of God is honored, worshipped and celebrated. It was surprising to note that most of the babies born through Surrogacy at the Kiran Infertility Center during this festive season were Girls!

A Challenging Case:
A 28 yr old American lady and her husband sent us their medical history by email. She had repeated miscarriages (total 6) between 8 to 20 weeks, with repeated failed IVF attempts. her doctors couldn’t pin point the reasons for repeated miscarriages, despite doing a plethora of tests, including chromosomal Karyotyping of the fetus. In one of her reports, Dr Samit found that she was hypo-thyroid since the last 6 years. She was taking between to 50 to 100 microgm of Eltroxin everyday. She was immediately asked to go for testing for anti-thyroid antibodies in her blood. This test was positive and she was kept on a short course of steroid therapy for 3 weeks, keeping all due precautions in mind. She was commenced immediately on a IVF surrogacy cycle in the next month. 3 embryos were transferred. The pregnancy is currently at 28 weeks of intra-uterine pregnancy! This is again a commonly overlooked condition which leads to infertility and miscarriages in women. Reference: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19955261

Power Quote~ “All power is within you; you can do anything and everything. Believe in that, do not believe that you are weak, as most of us do nowadays. You can do any thing and everything, without even the guidance of any one. Stand up and express the divinity within you.” -Swami Vivekananda

Her popularity with all the Intended Parents is amazing. We are sure many Parents still cherish the moments they have spent with Sally for her help in handling their children. Her effort and her dedication in her Job reveal that how even a small responsibility or job done with heart can effect lives of so many people!
Most of the parents who have taken back their children through the Surrogacy Program at KIC have always asked us about their very own “Sally”. Hence we dedicate this issue’s Employee Focus to “Salamma Jacob” everyone’s “Sally.” 3
Hot spot- The Falaknuma Palace! We realize that the major part of our successful IVF surrogacy program entails that the patient be stress and tension free. and we encourage site seeing to the several culturally diverse tourism spots in and around Hyderabad. This new feature will cover one tourism site seeing spot every month. We start with the Falaknuma palace., The former residence of the Nizam ( the King here who was the richest man in the world until the 1940’s) of Hyderabad. Retrace the steps of Nizams, European royalty, enchanting Begums, distinguished Heads of State and walk the walk of Kings through this Palace in the sky. 2000 feet above Hyderabad, Taj Falaknuma Palace allows you to journey into the clouds and into the glided ages, where grandeur and excess is celebrated and savoured in equal measure. Those who have revelled in its opulence have revelled in its large Venetian chandeliers, rare furniture, grand marble staircases and gurgling fountains, priceless statues, and objets d'art, stained-glass windows, unique sketches and murals encased in ornate frames, a world-class collection of crystal as well as the Mughal, Rajasthani and Japanese gardens personally conceived by the Nizam. The Palace Library, a replica of the one at Windsor Castle, is a collector's envy as it is home to the rarest of manuscripts, books and one of the most acclaimed collections of the Holy Quran in the country, all of which were selected and brought back by the Nizam himself.
