Campus Digest Faculty & Staff Honors Director of Career Development Judy Muir has published a book, Live Wires: Neuro-Parenting to Ignite Your Teen’s Brain. Upper School science teacher Christina Zeigler has received a 2012 Distinguished Alumnus Award from Texas Southern University. Middle School debate (and Upper School government) teacher Stacy Thomas was a

Houston area nominee for a teacher of the year award at this year’s Texas Speech Communication Association convention.

Sasha Busa ’20, Amy Ho ’19, David Liang ’18, and Katie Fusillo ’17 won first place in the Fall 2012 Pen Power Super Hero Short Story Contest.

Upper School English teacher Christa Forster is involved in “City Council Meeting,” a performance project in which audience members participate as mayor and city council members. The production was done through DiverseWorks and took place November 1-3.

Christopher Combs ’16 received an Honorable Mention Award in the NATO Crisis Committee at the Central Texas Model United Nations Conference in October.

Upper School Latin teacher James Houlihan has two poems in the latest issue of Vates: The Journal of New Latin Poetry. His original Latin poems are followed by English translations.

Student Honors

National Student Day winner Jared Edelman ‘18 competes in the tournament

Selim Baysal ’14 was awarded the Best International Court of Justice Judge Award at the Central Texas Model United Nations Conference in October.

Jared Edelman ’18 was the winner of the Kinkaid School Store’s 2012 National Student Day essay contest summarizing his participation in the “Hearts, Hot Wheels ‘n Hoops” tournament benefiting the Berry children. Mason Nome ’19 is now ranked #4 in the world on the Junior Golf Scoreboard for class of 2019. Over the summer, he won the 56th Annual Texas-Oklahoma Golf Tournament in Wichita Falls, the 39th Annual Pepsi Little People’s Tournament where

he made a hole in one, and the US Kids Golf Texas State Championship. Megan Pearson ’13 won the Dokuga Awards’ 1st place Best Canon and 1st place Best Serialization for Contact, her fanfiction based on Rumiko Takahashi’s InuYasha. Her fanfiction has been read by more than 600,000 readers.

School Honors The Interscholastic League Press Conference, the Journalism arm of the University Interscholastic League, has given the Kinkaidian the Award of Distinguished Merit in recognition of outstanding achievement and leadership in the field of scholastic journalism. This recognition, the equivalent of a first place rating at the state level, is awarded to the top 15 percent of scholastic yearbooks.

Kinkaid Alumna and Administrator Honored at National Philanthropy Day Emily Crosswell ’59, and Director of Advancement Tom Moore were honored on November 15 at the National Philanthropy Day Luncheon sponsored by the Greater Houston Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. A dedicated volunteer for many Houston organizations, Emily was named Outstanding Community Volunteer of the Year. Emily has chaired many volunteer activities at Kinkaid, including the Centennial Celebration and Field Day. Now in his 31st year in fundraising, the last 12 with Kinkaid, Tom was named Outstanding Fund Raising Executive of the Year. In their acceptance remarks, both Emily and Tom thanked the Kinkaid community for its generosity and support, and for its role in honoring them. The NPD Luncheon, which attracted over 1,000 attendees, recognizes those who contribute their time, talents, financial support and other resources to Houston’s non-profit community.
