omi

O

mi was born and raised in Jamaica, whose music is a fusion of a variety of music. When you listen, you hear a unique vibe, which is nothing like you’ve ever heard before. Omis’ unique sound can be attributed to the different genres of music he listened to. “Growing up I listened to the greats” Omi states, “like Nat King Cole and Bob Marley”, just to name a few. In high school Omi used to be fascinated by all forms of music, including rock. Sometimes in class, Omi would make music with his classmates and he would ack as the “desk drummer”. People would be impressed by the lyrics he composed. This gave him the confidence he needed to pursue his career. One of his biggest accomplishments is reaching 1.5 million views on Youtube and working with big names in the industry.

In the upcoming year Omi would like to work on releasing new music, while continuing to work on “perfecting his package” which inclues magazines and newspapers. Omi also plans to visit Dubai and Hawaii in the near future. What message would you like to give to your fans? He states “I am a fan of my fans, and thank you for all your support and love and spread the love!” Omi would like to continue to make his fusion music will making a positive difference, Omi states “it’s important to help one another because ,one hand washes the other”. by: Irvin Ramsay

he childhood game of dress-up and make believe is a staple activity in most children’s playtime adventures. You can be anything you want if you have the imagination to make it happen. If you ask Clé Bennett, he’ll say he’s still playing dress-up, but nowadays he’s getting paid to do it, and he does it well. Empowered by Michael Jackson’s charisma, the once shy and introverted Clé was able to break out of his shell, leaving the racist attitudes of childhood classmates in the dust. Thanks to Jackson’s superstar persona, Clé found the resolution he needed to begin his journey as the actor he is today. Michael Jackson gave me the confidence to express myself creatively. He taught me that excellence trumps racism, and that if you are good at something it doesn’t really matter what colour you are.” localiez 21

“Anything that inspires children creatively … to use their imagination is important, a lot of them don’t realize the amount of possibilities that are awaiting them if they just open up their minds and dare themselves to look outside the box”

If you’ve tuned into the Canadian hit series Flashpoint you should be familiar with Clé already, but he doesn’t just grace the networks. Clé’s latest project took him to the stage in Kim’s Convenience, performed at The Grand Theatre in London ON, where he embraces the challenge of acting out 4 different characters with distinct personalities, exploring his abilities and pushing himself to the edge. “Acting is a way to be able to put on a mask 22 localiez

so to speak and do whatever you want without being judged.” Something I’m sure many of us would find pleasure in the freedom to let loose and be whomever or whatever we feel. I know I certainly would. Clé explains to me that one of the roles of an actor is to observe and to embody, but advises those trying to get into the business for the wrong reasons to be cautious. In a subjective and cutthroat industry the faint of heart need not apply. “The first question

Zodiac Sign: Aquarius Favorite Musical Artist: Michael Jackson Actors He Loves: Meryl Streep, Denzel Washington, among many others.

I ask people who ask me about how to get into acting is ‘Are you any good?’ and most people will say it’s not for me to say… that’s the wrong answer. If you can’t say you’re good then how can someone else.” Clé tells me that confidence is the key, and that it comes solely from focus and preparation. Clé does strongly suggest that we do what we love in life, saying “Focus on finding something [you] love to do, no matter how simple or silly it seems, work on it, and become good at it and one day someone will end up having to pay [you] to do it.” This message applies to rug-rats young and aged, so take note.

“The goal isn’t to be rich, it’s to be happy doing what you want to do instead of doing what you have to do.” Happiness is one thing Clé isn’t without, he is passionate about what he does and is happy doing it and whoever said playing make believe is child’s play, definitely hasn’t met this guy. urban cloud

U

rban Cloud brings together companies and consumers on a platform designed to promote collaborative social e-commerce. We have focused on five key areas of innovation:

- Web Design

- Positive Reinforcement

- Validation

- Social Commerce

- Advertising

Urban Cloud is a social media marketing platform: designed to further our knowledge of personal connections, interesting topics and brands. It creates mutually beneficial relationships between brands and their consumers based on the constructive exchange of information and consumerism.

Its design provides a rich body language to display social data. The advertising tools are built hand in hand with the design to create a lasting impact on the user. Our unique validation procedures quickly allows the user to build up brand and consumer confidence.

Traditionally, social networks present information in a chronological order. Urban Cloud is changing this with a proprietary algorithm called STAC (Space, Time, Active, Content). It subconsciously turns the user’s attention to the most interesting content published by their most interesting connections. It is the web’s new body language.

Web users are always looking for cleaner designs, unencumbered by advertising. Our native advertising model blends the ad content into social feeds, providing a seamless look and feel.

Urban Cloud uses a points system to gauge a user’s contributions to the network. Collecting information about how much content is being viewed, shared and talked about increases the number of points

accumulated by the user. The more users gain points, the more their content is considered interesting and the more people will see it. This cycle of positive reinforcement is an incentive for them to continue contributing to the network. A second version of our prototype will be released at the start of May which will have added functionality and will allow users to sign up and start interacting with content, allowing brands to start reaping the rewards of being on the Urban Cloud platform. The completion of Urban Cloud will be occurring in September. http://www.urbancloud.com

investing gold vs silver

F

or the average investor, buying gold or silver seems like a daunting task. Where do I start? Is gold a better buy than silver? Where do I buy it? How much to buy? All of these are good questions. While I am not a financial professional, the information given here is from research and years in the financial field. This article is for informational purposes only and should not be considered financial advice. Please consult with a certified financial expert before attempting any of the ideas described in this article.

etc. Indeed, it is arguable that gold has become the world’s third most important currency.

Historic data found in the Commodity Market from May 2005 to May 2013, states that the price of gold ranged from around $450 to around $1,900 an ounce: a difference of $1,450 over 8 years.

Now if you consider that silver has many traditional industrial uses, such as virtually every electrical appliance in the world due to its low resistivity, solar semiconductors and solar panels, and in the medical profession, silver has antibacterial properties. Other silver applications include use in wood preservatives, water purification, and food hygiene. Everyday items, such as refrigerators, mobile phones, computers, washing machines, vacuum cleaners, keyboards, counter tops, and even clothing contain varying amounts of silver.

This historic run reached it high per ounce in 2011 and again twice in 2012. Today gold trades around $1,480. For most average investor, they probably didn’t pay much attention to the first part of the rally in gold, but once it convincingly crossed $1,000 in 2009, most of us began to keep an eye on gold along with the TSE (Toronto Stock Exchange), NYSE (New York Stock Exchange), the S&P 500,

So what about silver? Silver has also had an impressive run up in price as well, and may even have more upside than gold over the next coming months and years. In that same time period of 2005 to 2013, just like gold, silver’s run started at a value of approximately $7 an ounce to over $45 an ounce, reaching its pinnacle in 2011. In percentage terms, silver’s growth is even bigger than that of the gold’s

While gold, on the other hand, has limited industrial uses. India, China

and the Middle East accounts for over 67% of annual gold demand, then dental and medical applications account for about 12% of demand. One might wonder if the demand and supply for gold might crash (the price one is willing to pay for it versus the availability of that item). Let’s compare their price to one another. Over the years, traders have used many different methods to track historical price trends, such as a stock’s price to earnings ratio (P/E). Tools such as these have given analysts a quick way to view financial instruments not just in terms of absolute price, but in terms of relative value to each other. It is very interesting that a Tennessee bullion dealer named Franklin Sanders set out to determine the historical average price of gold related to silver. Getting data as far back as 1792, he found the price of gold was steadily 16 times that of silver. However, after the creation of the Federal Reserve in 1913, the ratio started to fluctuate more to be as high as 96. This fluctuation has caused the historical average of the ratio to rise to 27.28. Today the gold-silver ratio sits around 61.

Many traders believe that financial ratios, especially those that are based on widely traded and historically significant products like gold and silver should return to these historical patterns. If gold were to stay steady at today’s prices, around $1,480 an ounce, the price of silver would have to rise to $54.25 an ounce, more than doubling itself in order for the ratio to return to 27.28. If the ratio were to go back to 16, the price of silver would have to rise to $92.50 an ounce. From those statistics alone, for investment purposes silver seems to have more buck for your dollar (pun intended). While Analysts still believe that gold could reach $2,000 an ounce plateau, in comparison, than silver has the potential to reach $125 from its current $24.30. That is a 35% growth for gold and a 414% growth for silver. This is why I am bullish (positive on growth potential) on silver. Alexis spring is here. summer is in the air… but are you ready for it?

I

n the midst of the current, unpredictable weather, it is important that we prepare ourselves in anticipation of the warmth to come. I have included 5 sure fire areas to focus on before spring finally arrives.

Wardrobe. This is the most obvious area that needs to be addressed as the temperatures begin to rise. This year consider taking an inventory of your wardrobe before you begin to splurge in order to avoid duplicate items in your closet. Spring Cleaning. Although you hated this task as a kid, it really is a necessary evil. Take time to purge in small, frequent spurts rather than getting bombarded by clutter and disarray in the future. Spring cleaning will also help you to clear room in your closet before you fill it up again Finances. If you cannot remember the last time that you looked at your finances, then this task is unequivocally the most important job for you to tackle this spring! Do you allocate money each month for debt repayment and savings? Well, you should! If not, a quick Internet search will provide you with tips from some of the most distinguished financial gurus out there. Mind & Body. Take time this spring to look out for yourself. Reflect on your sleep, workout and eating patterns and focus on one area that you intend to improve. Like most changes, it is important that you try to make gradual changes that will stay with you over time. Game plan. Make as list of your top “must do” spring activities. This list should prove to be motivating, especially on those days when the weather has you in a glum mood. The list will also keep you busy and hopefully a bit more active than usual. Don’t forget to keep your questions and “Carpe Diem” stories coming and you could be a part of the May/June 2013 anniversary issue. If you haven’t already done so, be sure to add me to FB using “Alexis AskAnything” or via email at AlexisAskAnything@gmail.com. Happy Spring! Your girl, Alexis

book clubs and beach bums Reading for Everyone ... By Shannon White

Book Clubs The House Girl by Tara Conklin he House Girl is a wonderfully crafted debut novel that oscillates between 1850’s Virginia and modern day NYC. In Virginia, we meet Josephine the 17 year old slave to ailing Lu Ann Bell. With no children of her own, Lu Ann relies on Josephine to care for her and assist her with her art. Years later in NYC, Lina a lawyer and daughter of an artist discovers the works of Lu Ann Bell and the controversy facing the art world. Lina delves into the issue and finds herself questioning her own family history as well.

T

The House Girl is reminiscent of The Help with a dash of Grisham. It is certain to be a Top Book Club Selection of 2013. It is engaging from the start and filled with some beautifully written passages (e.g. Porter’s review of Oscar’s show). Quite simply, one of the most remarkable novels of this year! The Mapmaker’s War by Ronlyn Domingue The Mapmaker’s War is an extraordinary tale with a parable feel. It tells us the narrative of Aoife (pronounced Ee-fah) a rebellious young woman who is not content with a domestic lifestyle. Aoife, through favour of the prince, obtains great latitude and is trained in the art of map making. This enables her to embark upon many spirited adventures. In turn, these adventures propel Aoife into dangers and she is eventually exiled from all that she knows. She is forced to leave her parents, spouse, and twin children behind. The Mapmaker’s War is a blend of historical fiction and fantasy. With a flair of adventure, Aoife will intrigue you. The Mapmaker’s War is an original and very much unique book that is sure to interest those seeking out something a little different. Fever by Mary Beth Keane A fascinating fictional account of Typhoid Mary, Fever is sure to provide fuel for some stimulating book club discussions. Typhoid Mary was the first healthy carrier of typhoid fever identified in America. Mary Mallon is perfectly humanized in this fascinating account of the appalling treatment that she received. Forced to live in exile for years, Mary Mallon’s life was completely dismantled. But throughout the book readers will appreciate Mary’s fiery passion and brave determination.

of Lies tells the story of the three women whose lives are upended once the knowledge of a child from an illadvised affair emerges 5 years later. The Comfort of Lies is a tale of personal growth wherein each woman, Tia, Caroline, and Juliette are forced to confront their emotions and examine their decisions. This well-crafted account of the aftermath of infidelity is thought-provoking and at times mysterious. Recommended for both beach bums and book club lovers alike. Iscariot by Tosca Lee Who was Judas Iscariot? Most people would say the one who betrayed Christ for a handful of coins. But what really happened? Judas’s actions seem inexplicable however, Lee takes it upon herself to illustrate Judas’s real motivators in this intriguing work of historical fiction. The idea for this fictional work is fascinating and the tale is presented with a simplified plot using simplified language making it an easy read for those lazy days outside this spring. Although Iscariot does not have enough depth to compete with historical fiction masters like Philippa Gregory (The Tudor Series) or Anita Diamante (The Red Tent), it will be enjoyable for readers looking to expand into historical fiction without going too academic. Wife 22 by Melanie Gideon Wife 22 tells us the story of Alice Buckle, a 44 year old wife and mother. Searching for something more (as midlife people are wont to do), Alice enrolls in an online marriage survey. She begins frequent correspondence with Researcher 101. She finds herself buoyed by their exchanges and awaits them with school-girl anticipation. Meanwhile, various real-world problems are demanding her attention – teenagers, job loss, grief, and more. With captivating snippets of social media and online correspondence, Wife 22 is delightfully easy to read and superbly entertaining. Fantastic chick lit for those tired of reading about twenty-somethings with no real problems (wink, wink!). Fans of Sophie Kinsella and Emily Giffin should look no further. Grab Wife 22 today! ! ! Past Localiez Authors – New Release Update Be sure to watch for the following new releases by authors previously featured in Localiez:
