How to Register Sign up for these classes at the Service Counter in the lobby of the Student Recreation Center! Registration begins January 13.

Cost Cost categories are divided as follows: GSU student fee/Recreation member fee/non-member fee.

*Class Cancellation Health and Safety classes with fewer than four participants will be canceled on the date noted by the asterisk (*). Participants can still register after the cancellation date has passed if the class has not been canceled. If the class is canceled, the participant will receive a full refund.

Refunds A full refund will be given if the class is canceled or if the participant cancels prior to seven days before the scheduled class. No refunds without receipt.

Lifeguard Training

Lifeguard Instructor

Includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid and lifeguard training techniques. No absences allowed. During the first class, you must be able to swim 300 yards continuously in the following manner: 100 yards front crawl, 100 yards breast stroke, 100 yards of either front crawl or breast stroke. For breast stroke, you must demonstrate the pull, breathe, kick, and glide sequence. You must also demonstrate: 20 yard front crawl or breast stroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve 10 pound brick; swim 20 yards with brick returning to starting point in a specified time. Books are included. Bring: swim suit, towel, lock, dinner/lunch, pencil and notebook.

Students will receive certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Instruction. You will become certified to teach Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Shallow Water Attendant, Basic Water Rescue, Administering Emergency Oxygen, Bloodborne Pathogens Training: Preventing Disease Transmission and more. No absences allowed. You must be able to demonstrate all skills required for lifeguarding on the first night of class. Books are included. Bring swim suit, towel, lock, dinner/ lunch, pencil and notebook each day.

Water Safety Instructor Students will receive certification in American Red Cross Water Safety Instruction. You will be certified to teach all levels of American Red Cross swimming lessons.
