REGULATIONS Specific legislation on biological agents such as blood borne viruses (BBV's) is contained in the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH). Employers have a legal duty to assess the risk employees face from infections within their workplace and provide suitable precautions to protect their health.

Body fluid kit scoop has raised edges for fingers to prevent contact with spilled substance; unlike standard scoops.

FACT 004 - SHARPS HANDLING
The only sharps handling kit to include a 1 application sharps disposal container so there is no need to store dirty needles until the container is full; as you may do with a larger bin. It's also easier to send off for testing should a needle stick injury occur.
FACT 005 - RESPONSEBETA™ DISINFECTANT CLEANER ResponseBeta™ Disinfectant Cleaner’s scientifically proven biocidal formula kills viruses, bacteria, fungi, yeasts and spores and unlike other disinfectants is SkinSafe™ in addition to providing lasting residual protection for up to two hours following application.
ResponseBeta™ will not release chlorine gas when coming into contact with vomit or urine as some chlorine based cleaners do (e.g. bleach); neither will it smell or stain. It is also ready to use unlike chlorine tablets which take time to dissolve.

INTRODUCTION The answer is probably no, as the majority of organisations don't. Traditionally health and safety practice has had an emphasis on incident response, or reaction, particularly in the area of infection. In other areas of risk management, such as hazardous materials, there are very clear 'proactive' guidelines aimed at minimising accidents, so why should infection be any different?

Develop an infection control policy
HOW? Make it someone's duty to assess and manage the risks. Audit your premises and highlight the potential problem areas. Rate the severity of potential risks as you would any risk assessment. Determine proactive measures to limit risk by providing appropriate equipment (e.g. hand sanitizer). Undertake a process of education to raise staff and customer awareness and ensure appropriate levels of hygiene are maintained.

Are all infection control products the same? Quite simply no, they are not. Some products are advertised as anti-bacterial, others as anti-viral. This does not necessarily mean they can kill both bacteria and viruses and indeed there are other infectious organisms such as fungi, yeasts and spores.
Many infection control products have an alcohol base and whilst effective this has no lasting effects (i.e. because of evaporation) and may dry skin after prolonged use. What's more alcohol does not kill all micro-organisms, for example Clostridium Difficile.
In addition, some infection control products will be rendered useless when mixed or used in conjunction with other competitor products; owing to differences in formulation.

She states: “swine flu and seasonal flu are viruses and entirely different from bacterial infections. The labelling on most products does not make this clear. Alcohol gels are also being used widely and do have anti-viral properties although these evaporate quickly. There are also some newer products, which kill viruses and have residual effects.”
