What if we could stop a heart attack in record time?

Advanced, award-winning cardiovascular care. When every second counts. W hat if we could get heart attack patients from the emergency room to catheterization faster than any other Houston hospital? At the Memorial Hermann Heart & Vascular InstituteMemorial City, we focus on acting fast to minimize damage to the heart and maximize the chances for a full recovery. Our average ER-to-catheterization time is among the top in the US–and number one in Houston for two straight years. We’re the only Houston hospital to receive the 2006 VHA Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence for exceptional performance in the treatment of heart attack patients. We also were selected for the 2005 Award of Excellence for Acute Myocardial

921 Gessner Road

Infarction (heart attack) and Heart Failure by the Texas Medical Foundation Health Quality Institute. And, we’ve performed more off-pump bypass and robotic-assisted heart surgeries than any other hospital in Houston. Of course, this commitment to the highest quality, innovative cardiovascular care isn’t about winning more awards. It’s about sav ing more lives. It’s how we make breakthroughs—every day. For a referral to a board-certified cardiologist at the award-winning He a r t & Va s c u l a r I n s t it ut e Memorial City, call 713.222.CARE . For a tour of our new facilit y, call 713.CARDIAC.

Our Mission Statement: “Our mission is to have a magazine devoted to His glory, provide cutting-edge stories important to today’s Christian, promote Christian-Judeo values we find important, and editorial content that your entire family can enjoy.”

Katy Christian Magazine is proud to offer its endorsement for the 2010 primary. We identified candidates based on issues that are important to Christians. You will notice that we choose not to endorse a candidate in every race-- only those that we’ve researched. Additionally, we did not list candidates who are unopposed. Regardless of your political affiliation, Katy Christian Magazine encourages its readers to be an active part of the political process and participate in local, region, and national elections. The face is that we live in an ever changing world. In many aspects of our society traditional, judeo-Christian values have given way to idolatry, immorality and ill regard for our neighbors. Politics is no exception. As Christians, it is important for us to become an active part of the political process and to pray for our local, state, and national leadership on a daily basis. This election season, I would encourage each of you to become informed about the issues and take a stand for righteousness. The Bumbera Racing Family By Ruth Towns Cheri and Kenny Bumbera are parents and business owners with deep ties to Katy and Houston. If their name sounds familiar, it’s with good reason. They operate Bumbera’s Performance Associates, one of the fastest growing companies in the Houston area. They are also one of the most interesting Christian families around, with impressive racing credentials and plans to shoot a pilot for a TV reality show. Auto and RV repair along with all components of high performance racing keep this family busy and on track - literally! “We do many things at Bumbera’s but the bottom line is this: No matter what you drive - if it has at least 4 wheels we can service it, restore it, repair it, make it pretty, and make it go fast!” promises Kenny, a renowned race car driver and winner of the 2006 Crew Chief of the Year Award. “We live in Sealy and commute to work and school,” says Cheri. “Our 11-year-old, Boyd, and 17-year-old, Kendall, attend Faith West in Katy. Our shop is located on Highway 6, where we work with our oldest daughter, 22-year-old Kristin. You can imagine what our mornings are like!” she laughs. Cheri used to race, and she and Kenny have passed down the love of fast cars and performance racing to their children. Boyd, Kendall, and Kristin all race, as well.

Faith is the glue that holds the family together. The company, started in 1992, has received awards for exhibiting “Outstanding Christian Character” in their day-to-day business practices. In the first two years of business, Bumbera’s grew to 23 service bays and added an RV repair facility on the premises, becoming West Houston’s factory authorized RV repair facility for many top manufacturers. “Whether you have a pop-up camper or a luxury bus, we have years of experience to get the job done right,” says Kenny.

What Christ does for broken people, Bumbera’s does for broken cars. “Vehicles come to us in any condition and leave happy,” says Cheri. “We have a third generation of loyal customers, which is a blessing to our family and business.” Honesty and hard work have resulted in a high level of customer satisfaction. “We thank our customers for our success and for making our jobs an adventure each and every day.” Bumbera’s can work with any make or model, foreign or domestic, and do belts, hoses, batteries, air-conditioning, heating, engines, transmissions, brakes, shocks, alignments, alternators, and starters. But “High Performance” is the adrenaline of the business. “We are a one-stop race shop providing brand new and previouslyowned race-ready drag cars - classics and hot rods - plus stock cars, and road course race cars,” says Kenny. “Complete turn-key services in our race shop include back halves, interior fabrication, roll cages, chassis set-ups, plumbing & wiring, hang fiberglass & metal bodies, custom exhaust and custom lines and hoses. “We specialize in building and improving drag cars, stock cars, street rods, haulers, show cars and that restoration job that’s in your garage,” says Kenny. “There’s not much we haven’t seen before. We’ve re-built cars out of boxes and out of nothing.” The Bumbera’s sell racing fuel as well as racing tires by Good Year, Mickey Thompson and Hoosier. All carburetor rebuilds are personally performed by Kenny, himself.

The professional race team of Bumbera’s Performance has years of experience in NASCAR, ASA, USRA, SCCA and more. The team has succeeded on oval tracks, super-speedways and road courses throughout the United States. Kenny, the Crew Chief, currently drives super late models in various NASCAR, ASA and other divisions as time permits. Leading up to 2009 the Bumbera team has helped various drivers earn 6 Rookie of the Year Awards, numerous Track Championships wins, Pole Positions, Top 5 Finishes, 2 Most Improved Driver Awards, 3 Fan Favorite Awards and many others including Best Appearing Race Cars. “As exciting as racing is, it can also be dangerous,” says Cheri. “Our family members

always prays before races - not so much for a win, but for the safety of all the drivers.” Track Chaplains are available to emotionally and spiritually support drivers and crews. The Bumbera racing legacy lives on through the careers of the Bumbera children. “Kristin has had 16 Wins, 52 Top 5’s, 94 Top 10’s, 2 Rookie of the Year Titles, and ‘08 Nascar Drive for Diversity Driver of the Year,” says Cheri. “You can check out her statistics at www.KristinBumbera.com.” Obviously Cheri and Kenny have done a tremendous parenting job, because Kristin just recently took a moral stand and would not compromise her principles. “Kristin was asked to pose in a way that did not reflect her Christian values. When she refused, she lost her racing sponsorship,” says Cheri. “We are so proud that she, as a young 22-year-old woman, did the right thing, as painful as the consequences have been. It would have been so easy to say ‘yes’ and cave in to pressure. But Kristin only poses in her racing suit, just like any other driver.” God has a way of turning lemons into lemonade. “Kristin has been asked to speak at youth groups, annual conferences, and church rallies. As her popularity spreads - not just as a race car driver, but as a Christian motivational speaker - we see other opportunities opening up. For instance, Kristin will be the endorsing celebrity for Epilady Speed (a hair removal product). She has her own Epilady Speed line being launched this year.” And the Bumbera’s are also hopeful that other sponsors will step forward to support Kristin on the track. “We

need to raise $800,000 so that Kristin can race this season,” says Cheri. Individuals are sending in checks, and businesses are welcome to support Kristin, as well. “Through a grassroots effort of many fans and supporters, we hope to see Kristin chasing her dream on the track once again.” In the meantime, Kristin is available for speaking engagements all over the nation. 17-year-old Faith West high school student Kendall Bumbera is following in her parents’ and big sister’s footsteps. She recently won the 2009 Rookie of the Year in the Texas Super Racing Series Late Models. She was also Rookie of the Year in 2007 and 2008, earned 1 Top 5, 14 Top 10’s, and 1 Hard Charger Award. You can check out more of her achievements at www.KendallBumbera.com. Boyd Bumbera is the youngest sibling and already, at 11, has 6 wins, 9 Top 5’s, and 17 Top 10’s. Politics and Religion: Scriptures Prove True - Even in Politics By Mark Williamson In these days, God is showing how true the truths of scripture really are. For everyone, eventually, and without fail – even in politics. But the ramifications of these truths in the political realm is not easily discerned and therefore rarely noticed. So let’s take a brief look. Pro 6:16-19 “There are six things which the LORD hates, yes, seven which are an abomination to Him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that run rapidly to evil, a false witness who utters lies, and one who spreads strife among brothers.” For many years, the liberals have become increasingly extreme in their pride (more government is the answer to everything), lies (too numerous to mention), shedding of innocent blood (abortion), wicked plans (socialism), running rapidly to evil (celebration of homosexual perversion, taking “God” out of education and the public square), and stirring strife (politics of personal destruction and gross accusation). These rebellions against God have progressed in degree and magnitude, from “there is no God” to an unspoken but very purposeful agenda to make government our God whether we like it or not.

While not the first lie ever told by a politician, a major event sending us down this path was “I did not have sex with the woman.” This lie was supported by another lie that it was all just a “vast, right-wing conspiracy.” Another grand lie and accusation was that “Bush lied, people died” regarding the war in Iraq. I never could understand how liberals could make such a wild accusation when the Clinton administration itself had “regime change” in Iraq as an official policy of the Administration due to WMDs and the eventual likelihood of their use against us. Global warming/climate change is another massive lie. While seemingly not directed at individuals, it is a strategy of deception that could change everything about the way you and I live. It is actually a demonic agenda set against western civilization. The “green police” ad on Super Bowl Sunday was not that far off from what the environmentalist wackos want this nation to look like. But God, in His protection of truth and the innocent, and reflecting His “just rewards” for those who stirred up this global strife and deception has granted the recompense of “climate gate,” repeatedly unmasking “climate change” for the scientific fraud it is. These agenda-driven “scientists” didn’t just get it horribly wrong, they made it up! And for that they are discredited, their careers are over, and some may even (hopefully) face prosecution for fraud. are products of evolution. That globalism and one world government will be the culmination of the goodness and wisdom of man, providing ultimate answers for all mankind. That homosexuality is something to be celebrated instead of an oppressive misery to be healed and delivered from. There are specific lies, such as Senate Majority Leader Reid claiming the Iraqi war was lost. (Then came the surge, Al Qaeda decided there were greener pastures elsewhere, and now Iraq is increasingly in the hands of their own sovereign government.) Nancy Pelosi accused patriotic Americans protesting against the health care bill (culminating in the tea party movement) of being fringe elements comprised of uneducated hicks and violent Nazis. Thanks be to God there is still no government take over of health care, and the liberals have lost 3 major elections in three months – the most shocking being the loss of Ted Kennedy’s Senate seat. I guess it wasn’t that fringe after all. Liberals say abortion is health care. It is not. It is murder. Liberals say trillions in new debt will preserve and promote wealth and prosperity in America. Really? Really? How stupid can one be? Obama is doing to us what Reagan did to the Soviet Union in the 80s. Bankruptcy. The only question is whether it is intentional, and that answer is increasingly obvious.

There are far too many specific violations of scripture to list here. But pointing out these few – and the consequences of their manifest failure – shows how much God is on the move. The Bible assures that our unrepentant sin will find us out. It also promises in Proverbs 6:15 that “his calamity will come suddenly; instantly he will be broken and there will be no healing.” That gives me hope that God will cut off the anti-Christ agenda the liberal-progressives have been conducting against this nation for a long time. If Christians will vote righteously according to Biblical and Kingdom principles, we as the body of Christ could take a huge step forward on behalf of both our King and our nation on Election Day this November! Where will you stand? Mark Williamson is the Founder and President of Foundation Restoration Ministries and Federal Intercessors, educational and intercessory ministries dedicated to the restoration of Biblical truth, righteousness and justice in the nation, and the high offices of the Federal government. The views expressed in this column are his personal opinions and observations. Learn more and join the prayer cause at www.federalintercessors.net. You may contact him directly at mark.williamson@ federalintercessors.net, or at 713-722-4301.

When Obama recently met with the Republican caucus, he accused them of taking an approach to his proposed government take over of health care that made it seem like a “Bolshevik plot.” It was a Bolshevik plot! This is a common technique for those who continually try to deceive, distract and “mesmerize” people from seeing their hidden agenda and ulterior motives. They speak the truth, and then mock it so as to discredit it.

How Your Personality Affects Your Financial Decision-Making By Craig Narum, CFP® Trisperity All investors are not created equal. That’s why financial planners usually start their first client meetings with a discussion of money attitudes, goals and risk tolerance – the driver at the root of all investment decisions. Some planners do this by general conversation, others by detailed surveys they ask their clients to fill out. The survey route can be a more valuable tool because it forces clients to face their money issues, perhaps for the first time. Despite the difficulty in facing up to such key issues, individuals get a better idea of where their money strengths and weaknesses really lie. Often, the real difficulties lie in how money is spent. The real value of answering a lot of questions about your risk tolerance is to tell you what you don’t know – how the sources of your money, the way you made it, your money viewpoints and current methods of handling it will inform every decision you make about it in the future. The most important thing a questionnaire can reveal is your true money priorities and behaviors. Trained financial advisers, such as CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals – use both

conversation and surveys to reach some firm answers that might surprise you.

Are there particular money types? In reality, you’ll find quite a number of surveys out there that define money types in particular ways, but you’ll find personalities that are common on the scale from conservative to liberal. Deborah L. Price, a Financial Planning Association member and founder and CEO of the Money Coaching Institute, offers these scenarios in an article titled, “What’s Your Money Personality?”: The Innocent: Price notes that innocents often live in denial, are easily overwhelmed by financial information and rely heavily on the advice and opinions of others. They tend to be the most trusting because they generally don’t see people or situations clearly – which leaves them open to bad decisions at best and fraud at worst. The Victim: She notes that victims are people who tend to live in the past and blame their woes on outside factors and situations they claim they can’t control. These people may have been abused, betrayed, or have suffered some great financial loss, but they generally see life as a self-fulfilling prophecy that they can’t change. The Warrior: Generally seen as a successful person in the business and financial worlds, they will listen to advisors, but they make their own decisions. They tend to be great caretakers. The Martyr: These people generally put other people before their own financial health. They use their money to rescue others based on their high expectations for themselves and the people they’re rescuing, but these decisions may be costly in the long run.

Copperfield

Car Wash

The Fool: The Fool, explains Price, is a combination of the Innocent and the Warrior because they have no clue about what they’re doing but they’ll act fearlessly. They are financially adventurous and they act on impulse. The Creator/Artist: These people often have a love/hate relationship with money. They’re constantly struggling to make their finances work, but they often feel that caring about money means something bad. The Tyrant: Price reports that this type hoards money and uses it to manipulate others. They may have everything they need, but they’re never comfortable with their lives because they fear losing control. The Magician: Price defines the The Magician as the ideal money type. They’re aware of their circumstances and responsibilities and can see situations very clearly. A financial planner tries to see through the static to find out what you really need to create a solid financial life. But it might make sense to ask yourself a few questions before you and your planner sit down: 1. 2. 3. 4.

How would you describe your financial status right now? What’s important about money to you? What’s your family history with money? What do you do with your money?

5. If money wasn’t an issue, what would you do with your life? 6. Has the way you’ve made your money – through work, marriage or inheritance – affected the way you think about it in a particular way? 7. How much debt do you have and how do you feel about it? 8. Are you more concerned about maintaining the value of your initial investment or making a profit from it? 9. Are you willing to give up that stability for the chance at longterm growth? 10.What are you most likely to enjoy spending money on? 11.How would you feel if the value of your investment dropped for several months? 12.How would you feel if the value of your investment dropped for several years? 13.If you had to list three things you really wanted to do with your money, what would they be? 14.What does retirement mean to you? Does it mean quitting work entirely and doing whatever you want to do or working in a new career full- or part-time? 15.Do you want kids? Do you understand the financial commitment? 16.If you have kids, do you expect them to pay their own way through college or will you pay for all or part of it? What kind of shape are you in to afford their college education? 17.How’s your health and your health insurance coverage? 18.What kind of physical and financial shape are your parents in? One of the toughest aspects of getting a financial plan going is rec-

ognizing how your personal style, mindset, and life situation might affect your investment decisions. A financial professional will understand this challenge and can help you think through your choices. Your resulting portfolio should feel like a perfect fit for you! Craig was recently named “Five Star: Best in Client Satisfaction Wealth Manager” for 2009 in TexasMonthly magazine (less than 2% of 20,000 Houston area wealth managers selected).

Men To Fathers Archie R. Wortham, PhD “The seminal event to the 20th century,” is what Brad Lemee calls Woodstock as he talks about the picture a 17 year old boy, Dan Garson took. Dan Garson later died at 40 but left behind a legacy of one of the largest outdoor concerts ever. It changed many people’s lives. Captured on film and on vinyl, it’s a reminder of a time gone by. But as we look into the mirror, ask yourself what is the seminal event of the last decade and how do you figure it will change the future? As we move toward the new decade, and the New Year, I want to share something about health, personality, society and life you might want to read. It was sent to me that I think each of us should take time to read, and then it’s your choice. Recently I sustained a small accident. My friends indicated that there are easier ways of getting out of work, but the fact remains, men need to look out for their health and in that regard, here are some things for you to consider: 1. Drink plenty of water. We were told to drink eight glasses when we grew up. 2. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a beggar. None of us are getting younger and weight can contribute

to a bit of baggage we could do without. 3. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants. It’s healthier. 4. Live with the 3 E’s -- Energy, Enthusiasm and Empathy. We men generally have no problem with the first two, but we could start by sharing how to learn to be in the moment to enjoy the first two, especially with our families. 5. Make time to pray. The operative word here is ‘make.’ We mean well, and we think that God will make time for us. He doesn’t make time for us, He generally just waits. Pray. 6. Play more games. I think we know this one by heart, but it’s generally who and what we play that’s important. 7. Read more books than you did in 2009. Hopefully it’s more than two, otherwise…what a waste! 8. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day. Try working some enthusiasm in here! 9. Sleep for 7 hours. It’s a fact, we have become sleep deprived, and if you want to be on the edge…fail to get adequate amounts of sleep. 10.. Take a 10-30 minutes walk daily. While you walk, smile. Personality: 11. Don’t compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about. As Max Ehrmann reminds us with Desiderata, you will become vain and bitter .12. Don’t have negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment. Remember, you are the change you want to see in the world. 13. Don’t overdo. Keep your limits. It will be there tomorrow, and if it doesn’t get done, as I’ve learned it won’t kill you. 14. Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does. This is where being able to laugh is important, and why we pay psychiatrists so much and pay so much to see Robin Williams or Whoopi Goldberg .15. Don’t waste

your precious energy on gossip. Will it change anything? 16. Dream more while you are awake. We all have the potential to be a Susan Doyle, with or without the eyebrows. 17. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need. 18. Forget issues of the past. Don’t remind your partner with his/her mistakes of the past. That will ruin your present happiness. This is key, and should be posted on your refrigerator on your forehead. 19. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. Yet we do. Parents, children, republicans or democrats, it doesn’t matter don’t hate others. 20. Make peace with your past so it won’t spoil the present. 21. No one is in charge of your happiness except you. No one can change you but you! 22. Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime. Every house we have built, I’ve had to use fractions. 23. Smile and laugh more. 24. You don’t have to win every argument, agree to disagree. Learn to let go! Society: 25. Call your family often. They may come a day when they are all that you have. 26. Each day give something good to others. It doesn’t

Both can teach you how much you don’t know. I know. 29. Try to make at least three people smile each day. Especially after you read this. 30. What other people think of you is none of your business. Stay out of it and remember you can’t make people love you. 31. Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch. Nothing is worse than to be in need and have no one to fill that, or to want to be needed and to be denied the opportunity. Life: 32. Do the right thing! If you don’t know what that is, ask someone over 70 or under 6. 33. Get rid of anything that isn’t useful, beautiful or joyful. 34. GOD heals everything. 35. However good or bad a situation is, it will change. That’s why there’s prayer and therapy. 36. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up. This is something we need to teach by doing, especially to our young men. 37. The best is yet to come. 38. When you awake alive in the morning, thank GOD for it. Duh? Who else would you? 39. Your Inner most is always happy. So, be happy. You have the power to create, so do that. Hopefully this has given you something to think about. Read it. Relish it. I encourage you to share it, and live it as we remember, “Yesterday is history, tomorrow a mystery, and today is a gift, that’s why they call it the present.” Take it, use it and give it to those we love, especially the young trying to be grow into adults. Who God Is Pastor Sonny Rice WHO GOD IS! This is a good way to learn Who God Is, read and listen. Slowly begin reading the pairs of Who God is and Who I Am. This is very different from speed reading. It is not scanning the headlines of publications destined for the recycle bin in less than 24 hours. Unfortunately, we are well-schooled in disposable reading. Let your full attention rest on each word, but don’t settle for words. This is reverential reading and listening for God to speak. Be aware of any particular words or phrase that grabs your attention in a special way. This is the name, word, or phrase that jumps off the page and grabs you, saying “This is for you today.” Open your favorite Bible and read the entire Scripture that contains the word or phrase that stood out to you. This helps you underscore that it is a message from God’s unfailing Word that does not return to him void. Write the verse or passage in full from your favorite translation. There is power in taking the time to write it personally in your own handwriting. Cutting and pasting form your favorite Bible program is too impersonal. The verse or verses may visually evoke and idea or an image. It may connect with a sound or phrase, particularly a musical sound, or a smell, or a touch. Repeat the word or phrase, savoring it. Allow it to penetrate your inner world. So here goes.

He is above all. Psalm 135:5, The lord is great, and our Lord is above all gods. John 3:31, The one who comes from above is above all. I am a citizen of heaven. Philippians 3:20, Our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there…. Jesus is abundant life. John 10:10, I have come that they have life, and …more abundantly. I have abundant life, John 10:10, I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. Jesus is all and in all. Colossians 3:11 Christ is all, and is in all. I share in the divine nature of Jesus. 2 Peter 1:4 By that same mighty power, he has given us all of his rich and wonderful promises. He has promised that you will…share in his divine nature. Would You Rather Prevent or Treat Heart Disease? Dr. Hotze This year 750,000 American men and women will die of a heart attack. That is 2,055 Americans each day, eighty-five per hour and nearly one and a half deaths per second. More than 47 percent of these deaths occur before emergency help arrives. It is the silent fear of all middle aged men, as often the first symptom of a heart attack is a heart attack. Men fear heart disease like women fear breast cancer. However, you may be surprised to know, it is the number one killer of both men and women in the United States. The question we should be asking is why? What do you believe is the cause of heart disease? Most Americans would answer that cholesterol is the cause of heart disease. This may be the opposite of anything you have ever heard, but cholesterol is NOT the cause of heart disease. Did you know that cholesterol is essential to the human body? Cholesterol is in each cell of your body and believe it or not, you want it to stay there. It plays a vital role in stabilizing your cells, providing structure to your cell membranes. It’s similar to the role of nails in that holding your house together. If you removed each nail, what would happen to your house? It would fall apart! Cholesterol is also a precursor to your body’s hormones such as testosterone, progesterone, and estrogen, as well as vitamin D production. If cholesterol is so bad for our health, why is it so important in our body?

You may be wondering: well, what about statin drugs. Hundreds of thousands of Americans are “trusting their hearts to Lipitor”. Conven-

tional medicine is lowering cholesterol, but is it preventing heart disease? Do you really want to abnormally lower something that is so vital to your health, in exchange for the likelihood of having negative side effects, such as memory loss, amnesia and muscle and joint pain? If cholesterol isn’t the cause of heart disease, what is? Well, there are many factors that contribute to the cause of heart disease, and the following is a vital piece of the health puzzle. Believe it or not: A deficiency in vitamin C, in the cells of the blood vessel walls, is a major factor in the cause of heart disease. When lesions form in our arteries, the body needs collagen to properly repair itself, and our body needs vitamin C to form collagen. If your body does not have a sufficient amount of vitamin C, it will compensate in an unhealthy way with a sticky substance that forms sticky plaques. Dr. Matthias Rath found that this sticky substance in the artery walls is actually made from a similar cholesterol-based protein called lipoprotein(a). These plaques then build up and cause blockage in the arteries, which then cause heart attack and stroke.

mones than they did in their twenties.

Consequently, the presence of vitamin C in your body is vital. However, humans, guinea pigs and monkeys are the only species that do not have the ability to make their own vitamin C. If our bodies completely lacked vitamin C, we would get scurvy, and then the lesions would rupture causing us to die from internal bleeding. Vitamin C is also needed to convert cholesterol to bile, and to keep cholesterol and lipoprotein(a) from building up in your bloodstream. Equally important is the body’s thyroid hormone level, which has been shown to be directly correlated to the rate of heart attacks deaths. A truly remarkable finding: Dr. Broda Barnes performed a twenty year study of the relationship between supplemental thyroid hormone and reduced risk of heart attacks, which demonstrated a decreased heart attack death rate of 95 percent in patients who received natural thyroid hormone. With this in mind, please remember thyroid production declines as we age. Specifically, fifty-year-olds produce 50 percent less thyroid hor-

Prevention: Forget about drugs or surgery, you can prevent and reverse plaque build-up in your arteries through proper vitamin and mineral supplementation. The protocol I recommend for prevention of heart disease consists of the following daily regimen: vitamin C, L-Lysine, LProline, Coenzyme Q10, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Omega 3 and Magnesium Citrate, as well as lowering your homocysteine levels by boosting your levels of B12 and folic acid. The choice is yours on how you can prevent or treat heart disease. It is my intent to insure you are educated about some of the risks associated with conventional pharmaceutical approaches to symptoms, such as high blood pressure and cholesterol, and to present you with natural options so that you can make an informed decision. I encourage you to take charge and be proactive with your health. Steven F. Hotze, M.D., is the founder and CEO of Hotze Health & Wellness Center, Physician’s Preference and Hotze Pharmacy. You can listen to Dr. Hotze and his colleagues on his radio program, “Health and Wellness Solutions”, which airs Monday-Friday on KSEV 700 AM in Houston from 12-1 p.m. CST, or online at, http://www.drhotze.com/.
