BEVO PROCESS BOOK

DESIGN BRIEF For this project I wanted to create a brand identity while exploring the combination of fine art and design. Another goal was to reflect on my experience abroad in Florence, Italy. Cafe Bevo is a cafe experience designed around the Italian lifestyle and bringing that locally in the US. These differences in cafe experiences from the US to Italy include no to-go cups, authentic drinks and style inspired by Italy.

INSPIRATION Below are factors that went into the final design.

ARCHITECTURE | Italian architecture and materials such as marble.

COLOR PALETTES | Color swatches pulled from Italian photographs taken while abroad.

TYPOGRAPHY | Researched signage and Italian typography for inspiration in logo and type choices.

LIFESTYLE The components of this project centered around the Italian lifestyle. There was a list of important factors that differ American cafes from Italian cafes.

No to-go cups in Italy. Italians drinks small drinks and never take anything with them. Coffee is meant to be a quick pick me up and take less than 5 minutes to consume.

Serving water with espresso.

Authentic drinks and food with authentic names. All bread and pastries are fresh.

BRAND DEVELOPMENT After researching Italian cafes and lifestyle I started developing a brand identity.

NAME | After brainstorming dozens of names I landed on Cafe Bevo, which means drink in Italian. It is short and simple making it memorable and easy to say while still having a connected meaning.

TYPE | The typefaces used are Avenir Next and Abraham Lincoln.

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ COLOR | Color palette used based on Italian architecture and design.

TEXTURE | Hand-marbled paper inspired by Italian marble.

MARBLE PROCESS The steps to how I made the marble paper.

In a container filled with an inch of water, layer nail polish on the top in the desired color palette.

Then swirl the color together to create a marbled pattern.

Once the design is complete, place the paper on the paint until fully coated.

Lastly, pull the paper out and let dry. The finished product after experimenting was then scanned and used throughout the brand.

PRODUCTION My process includes a lot of sketching and trial and error on the computer. Below are examples of the production process. LOGO DEVELOPMENT

The design and production of all the physical objects involved a variety of techniques. This ranged from creating stickers to using iron on transfer paper for custom towels.

FINAL PRODUCT The final product consisted of: brand standards, menu, business cards, coasters, espresso cup, water glass, water bottle, wine bottle, towels and pastry packaging.

In the end I created a brand identity inspired by an authentic Italian cafe. The exploration of different materials made the entire look come together.
