Eric Smith became Rhode Island's highest-ever MLB Draft Pick when he was selected 60th overall - by the Arizona Diamondbacks - following his outstanding junior season in 2009.
Named after the program's first Unsung Hero Award recipient, the Joe Abarr award is presented to a member of the URI baseball family who has made substantive, yet unrecognized contributions to the program while demonstrating outstanding loyalty and unselfish devotion to the program. 2009

The 2005 Rhode Island baseball team won the program's first-ever Atlantic 10 Championship, sending the Rams to Long Beach, Calif. where they took on No. 12 Long Beach State and No. 18 Pepperdine in the NCAA Regionals.
