The return to fitness of a number of United regulars is the big question heading into the second leg. Leading scorer Chris Pontius is the biggest question mark after he was forced off after just 12 minutes with a groin injury. “We were questioning whether I should play,” Pontius said. “I woke up, 26 8 felt good, went out in the warmups, took shots and felt good, so we went along with Boskovic Pajoy it.” ... Midfielder Marcelo Saragosa and defender Brandon McDonald were also forced off as United head coach Ben Olsen used all three substitutes before the 12 9 hour. “It’ll be an interesting game going back to D.C.,” Olsen said. “We get to rest, Bruin Kandji they get to rest. You’re talking about two different teams when they’re healthy.” ... There is a chance Dwayne De Rosario, who has been out since Sept. 11 with a 11 27 knee injury, could be ready to return for the second leg. “He’s a lot further along 23 17 than I think we would have expected,” assistant coach Chad Ashton said. “I think Davis Garcia we’re very optimistic he could play. ... Like their opponents, the Dynamo were hit by injury in the first leg. Andre Hainault stepped in again at center back for Jermaine Taylor (knee sprain) and Luiz Camargo came into the midfield for Ricardo Clark (groin strain). Giles Barnes then came on for the injured Adam Moffat. “They played like men,” Boswell said. “Credit to all of the guys that came on and did their job. That’s what the coaches asked of them and they have done quite well to keep that going.” ... The introduction of Barnes brought on a tactical shift, and the Dynamo responded with three goals. "With Giles [Barnes] going in, we had to change our formation a little bit and push Brad [Davis] into the midfield and put Mac [Kandji] wide and I thought Mac had a good game," said Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear. ... Will Bruin scored his fourth goal in the MLS Cup Playoffs this season. “He has four goals in four games. I think the one thing with Will is that even though he wasn’t scoring goals at a particular time in the season, he was still getting chances. ... I think his effort and his willingness to work for the team, and he still gets on the end of stuff because of his hard work, it’s hard to do anything but play him," said Kinnear. Bruin also has seven goals in in six matches against D.C. United in league and cup play. “I think it’s just matchups,” Bobby Boswell said. “Great credit to him to get that goal. It’s a goalscorer’s goal and if he keeps scoring against D.C., I’ll take it.” ... Making his 11th consecutive start over the end of the regular season and the playoffs, Kofi Sarkodie scored his first playoff goal. “The kid’s battled ever since he’s gotten the chance to play,” Corey Ashe said. “I was really happy for him. It was a good finish and it was a good ball by Luiz [Camargo]. It was definitely what we needed, that’s for sure.” ... Moffat was listed as out on the club's injury report to start the week, but could return for the second leg. “It’s a head injury so there’s protocol to follow and procedures and stuff," said Moffat. "So far everything’s been good. The stuff we’ve done so far has been great. If it keeps going I’d love to get out there but we just need to see how it progresses.”

GAME NOTES Blackout – first time in playoffs in 5 years

Houston losses by 2+ goals

D.C. United is one of Major League Soccer’s most storied clubs. The club has won four MLS Cups (1996, 1997, 1999, 2004), four Supporters’ Shields for putting together the best regular season record (1997, 1999, 2006, 2007), two U.S. Open Cup titles (1996, 2008) and two international trophies – the CONCACAF Champions Cup and InterAmerican Cup, both in 1998.

When it comes to losing games by two goals or more, only Chivas USA (10), Toronto FC (9), New York (8), Montreal (8), and Portland (8) have more losses by two or more goals – none of which are still in the MLS Cup Playoffs.

D.C. United – Highest seed remaining D.C. United took second place in the Eastern Conference and is now the highest seed remaining in the 2012 MLS Cup Playoffs. The Black-and-Red would host MLS Cup on 12/1 if it moves past the Houston Dynamo.

United undefeated at home The Black-and-Red have been tough at home this season, with the only loss coming on 3/10 to Sporting KC. Since that game, United has gone 17 games without a loss – going 12-0-5. The previous record, at 13 games, was set in 2008.

Houston worst of all playoff teams on the road Of all 2012 playoff teams, the Dynamo has the worst regularseason road record, a mark of 3-9-5 (.324). Two of those wins came against bottom-feeders Toronto FC and Chivas USA.

Fifteen multi-goal games Through 34 games this season, D.C. United has 15 multi-goal games. The Black-and-Red have netted four goals three times (against FC Dallas, the New York Red Bulls and Chicago Fire); three goals six different times (against the Houston Dynamo, San Jose Earthquakes, Toronto FC, New England Revolution, Montreal Impact and Columbus Crew); and two goals six different times (against the New England Revolution twice, Toronto FC, New York Red Bulls twice and Colorado Rapids).

Houston prone to giving up goals on the road Through 34 regular season games, only two teams gave up more goals while on the road than the Houston Dynamo (29) – last place Toronto FC (37) and seventh place Montreal Impact (32). The Dynamo were 3-9-5 on the road through the regular season, with big losses coming to the Vancouver Whitecaps (31 on 6/10), Montreal Impact (4-2 on 6/23), the Chicago Fire (31 on 9/2), the Philadelphia Union (3-1 on 9/23), and the Colorado Rapids (2-0 on 10/27).

United wins by 2+ goals When it comes to winning games by two goals or more, only LA (11), San Jose (9), Seattle (9), Colorado (8), New York (8), and Montreal (8) have won more games by two or more goals.

Three-goal deficit perspective Just over a year ago, D.C. United midfielder Dwayne De Rosario netted the fastest hat-trick in MLS history in a game against Real Salt Lake on 9/25/11. His three strikes in nine minutes puts into perspective the deficit United is facing.

Offensive output coming from all over the field 11 different United players have contributed either a goal or an assist to the last 11 goals United has scored.

Beasts in the East D.C. United boasts an overall 9-4-0 mark in conference championship matches.

Second best streak this MLS season broke at nine To go along with its record 17 game unbeaten streak at home, the Black-and-Red went undefeated over nine games dating back to 9/15. During the stretch, United was 6-0-3, with an impressive four shutouts and only six goals against. United’s nine-match unbeaten streak was the longest active undefeated stretch in MLS until Houston beat the Black-andRed on Sunday. The only club that had gone more consecutive games without losing this season was Sporting Kansas City (12 matches).

Roommates making an impact Nick DeLeon, Chris Korb, and Joe Willis have all been making their presence known while on the pitch so far through United’s impressive 2012 campaign. The three live together (once with Danny Cruz now with the Union) in Alexandria, Va. DeLeon has scored United’s two goals in the playoffs, Korb has been a regular at left back, and Willis saved Kenny Cooper’s penalty kick minutes before DeLeon scored the game-winner against New York on 11/8.

Najar joins Honduras while on suspension United defender Andy Najar joined the Honduran National Team for a friendly against Peru on 11/14 at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, TX. Najar joined the squad on 11/12 and will return to training with the Black-and-Red Thursday following the match with Peru.

When leading at half…

Over two goals per game at home this year

D.C. United was a perfect 7-0-0 when leading at half through the regular season. United is one of two teams in the League to be perfect when leading at half, along with New York (9-00).

Not only is United putting together one of the most impressive streaks in club history, but the team is doing it in sizeable fashion as well. Through 17 regular season home games this year, United averaged over two goals per game at home with an impressive 38 goals inside the friendly confines of RFK Stadium.

First strike is killer During the regular season, the Dynamo were a poor 1-9-2 when allowing the first goal, a winning percentage (.167) that matched League-worst Toronto FC.

Ben Olsen – right substitutes at the right time Dating back to 9/15, almost every single one of Head Coach Ben Olsen’s substitutions have made an impact. On 9/15, Lewis Neal entered in the 56th minute and scored the game-winning goal. On 9/20, Maicon Santos entered in the 57th minute and tallied the game-winning assist. On 9/23, Branko Boskovic entered in the 57th minute and subsequently scored the gamewinner. On 10/6, Hamdi Salihi and Maicon Santos entered in the middle of the second half and Salihi notched the gamewinner on a rebound off of a Santos shot. On 10/20, Lewis Neal entered in the 69th minute and scored the game-winner in the 91st, on a pass from Branko Boskovic, who enetered in the 87th.

Nick DeLeon, a rookie out of Louisville, netted his eighth of the year on Sunday, and second of the 2012 MLS Cup Playoffs, to secure his spot in the Black-and-Red history books.

Robbie Russell - Russell has one of the strongest playoff resumes on D.C. United’s squad, playing in 12 post-season games with 10 starts with his former club Real Salt Lake. In the 2009 MLS Cup finals, Russell converted the winning penalty-kick en route to his first MLS title. Maicon Santos - Santos has three career Major League Soccer appearances – two with Chivas USA in 2009 and one with FC Dallas in 2011. Santos also scored a goal in Chivas USA’s playoff run in 2009. Marcelo Saragosa - Marcelo Saragosa is one of the Black-and-Red most seasoned playoff veterans with eight playoff games, including five starts, under his belt with three different teams. United on 12/15/2010 following his selection in the MLS Re-Entry Draft. Last year with D.C. United, Wolff started 23 of the 30 games he appeared in, netting five goals and assisting on seven. Wolff has also been a consistent fixture in international competition, playing in the 2000 Olympics, and the 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cups. Kitchen became the only rookie in United’s 16-year history to lead the team in minutes played (2,726) during his inaugural MLS season in 2011. Dykstraâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s hard work in preseason paid off, earning him a contract to cap off a successful trial period with United. DYNAMO CARRY TWO-GOAL AGGREGATE LEAD OVER D.C. UNITED TO WASHINGTON The Houston Dynamo carry a 3‐1 aggregate series lead over D.C. United heading into Sunday’s second leg of the Eastern Conference Championship at RFK Stadium. If the Dynamo win, draw or lose by one goal on Sunday, they will advance to the MLS Cup Final for the second consecutive year and fourth time in seven years. In the first leg of the Eastern Conference Championship on Sunday, Houston earned a 3‐1 victory over D.C. to earn a two‐goal edge in the series. This is the first‐ever postseason meeting between the clubs. The two historic franchises have six MLS Cup titles and eight conference titles between them.

Houston vs. D.C. United Houston is 10‐4‐2 all‐time against D.C. United (including Sunday’s 3‐1 win). The Dynamo are 2‐4‐1 all‐time in road games against D.C. United. The clubs met three times in the 2012 regular season and the Dynamo won both home games while United won its only home game in the series. United secured a 3‐2 win at RFK Stadium on April 28 as Will Bruin scored two goals for Houston while Maicon Santos bagged a pair and Dwayne De Rosario tallied the other goal for D.C. United. Dynamo rally for 3‐1 lead in Eastern Conference Championship: The Dynamo scored three unanswered goals in the second half to secure a 3‐1 win over D.C. United in the first leg of the Eastern Conference Championship on Sunday at BBVA Compass Stadium. Behind goals from Andre Hainault, Will Bruin and Kofi Sarkodie, the Dynamo will carry a 3‐1 aggregate series lead into the final leg of the two‐game series on Sunday. The win, in front of a BBVA Compass Stadium record crowd of 22,101, extended Houston’s home unbeaten streak to 30 games in all competitions. The Dynamo are now 8‐1‐0 all‐time in home playoff games, outscoring opponents 18‐6. It was Bruin’s fourth goal this postseason to set a franchise record for goals in a single postseason. It also extended Bruin’s franchise record for goals in a season to 16. The Dynamo are now 12‐6‐3 all‐time in the playoffs (counting 2006 MLS Cup final penalty kick victory as a tie).

Other notes from Sunday’s 3‐1 win over D.C. United: With four goals this postseason, Bruin has set a new franchise record for goals in a single postseason, surpassing Brian Ching, who scored three goals in the 2006 postseason. It was Hainault’s third career playoff goal to move to third on the franchise list for postseason goals. Goalkeeper Tally Hall earned his sixth career playoff win to tie Pat Onstad’s franchise record. Hall is 6‐2‐0 as a starter in the playoffs. It was Ching’s 25th career playoff game. It was Bobby Boswell’s 13th playoff start with Dynamo. He is now tied with Brian Mullan and Pat Onstad for third on the franchise list. It was Corey Ashe’s 11th career playoff game to tie Stuart Holden, Eddie Robinson and Wade Barrett for sixth on the franchise list. Houston is now 12‐6‐3 all‐time in the playoffs.

Three goals in playoff game for first time since 2007: Houston’s 3‐1 win over United on Sunday was the first time the Dynamo scored three goals in a playoff game since Nov. 2, 2007, a 4‐1 overtime win over FC Dallas (14 games in between). The only other time the Dynamo scored three goals in a playoff game was Nov. 5, 2006, a 3‐1 victory over Colorado in the Western Conference Championship.



Kinnear one win shy of Bradley for third on playoff wins chart: With Sunday’s 3‐1 win over United, Dominic Kinnear improved to 13‐8‐4 as a head coach in the playoffs. With his next win, Kinnear will tie Bob Bradley for third on the Major League Soccer all‐time playoff wins chart.



Fifth conference final in seven years: The Dynamo are in the conference championship for the second consecutive year and fifth time overall. Houston is 3‐1‐0 all‐time in conference championships, including last year’s 2‐0 win over Sporting KC at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park. Dynamo take first leg in first‐ever playoff game at BBVA Compass Stadium: The Dynamo secured a 2‐0 win over Sporting Kansas City in the first leg of the Eastern Conference semifinals on Nov. 4 at BBVA Compass Stadium. Adam Moffat delivered a sensational goal in the 18th minute, a 25‐yard strike into the upper corner for an early lead and his first career playoff goal. In the 75th minute, Will Bruin, who scored two goals on Oct. 31 at Chicago and assisted on Moffat’s goal, sealed the win with his third goal this postseason off a pinpoint pass from Calen Carr, who earned his second assist in two playoff games while goalkeeper Tally Hall earned his third career playoff shutout.



Bruin extends franchise single‐season goals record: Will Bruin has set a franchise record with 16 goals on the season after he led the Dynamo with 12 regular season goals. The second‐year forward has surpassed Brian Ching’s club record for goals in a season in all competitions, including playoffs. Ching scored 14 goals in 2008 (13 in regular season and one in Champions League) and 14 goals in 2006 (11 in regular season and three in the playoffs).



Bruin leads Knockout Round win in Chicago: The Dynamo advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals with a 2‐1 victory over the Chicago Fire in the MLS Cup playoffs Knockout Round on Oct. 31 at Toyota Park. Will Bruin scored two goals for the Dynamo in his first career playoff start. Bruin is the third Dynamo player in franchise history to score two goals in a playoff game. Brian Ching scored two goals in the 2007 Western Conference semifinal against FC Dallas and Paul Dalglish scored two goals in the 2006 Western Conference final versus Colorado.

DYNAMO IN HISTORIC HOME TERRITORY 

Dynamo complete fourth unbeaten home season in MLS history: The Dynamo went 11‐0‐6 (W‐L‐T) in regular season home games in 2012, becoming just the fourth team in Major League Soccer history (est. 1996) to complete a season without a regular season home loss. Dominic Kinnear was also head coach of the 2005 San Jose Earthquakes, one of three teams to complete a perfect home season. Late playoff heroics: Of Houston’s 29 all‐time playoff goals, a remarkable 18 have been scored after the 60th minute (62%), including four overtime goals. Three of those were scored by forward Brian Ching, with a tying header in the 2006 MLS Cup final and game‐winners in the second leg of Western Conference semifinals in 2007 and 2009. Ching is tied with Mike Magee of LA Galaxy for second among active MLS players with eight playoff goals, trailing only Landon Donovan (21).



Dynamo out to defend Eastern Conference crown: Despite being the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference, the Dynamo will try and defend their 2011 Eastern Conference title. A year ago, the Dynamo earned two important road wins – 2‐1 at Philadelphia on Oct. 30 and 2‐0 at Sporting Kansas City on Nov. 6 in the Eastern Conference final – to capture their third conference championship in six years. The Dynamo have excelled in the postseason over the years, posting a 12‐6‐3 all‐time record in the playoffs (counting 2006 MLS Cup final penalty kick victory as a tie).



Road Warriors: The win in Chicago was Houston’s third road playoff win in the last two seasons. The Dynamo earned wins in Philadelphia and Kansas City a year ago after going 0‐2‐2 in their first four road playoff games (2006, 2007 MLS Cup finals at neutral sites excluded).



Dynamo enter playoffs with lowest‐ever seed: The Dynamo are the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs, the lowest seed in club history, despite setting a franchise record with 53 points this season. Tough at Home: The Dynamo are 8‐1‐0 all‐time in home playoff games and have outscored opponents 18‐6. Houston’s only home loss was a 3‐0 setback against New York in the second leg of the 2008 Eastern Conference semifinal.



Mainstays: Midfielder Brad Davis has appeared in 20 of the Dynamo’s 21 playoff games in franchise history, starting 19. The 2011 MLS Cup final is the only playoff game Davis has missed. Forward Brian Ching has started 16 of Houston’s playoff games, but missed the 2007 MLS Cup final due to injury.



Possession: The Dynamo won the possession battle in 27 of 34 regular season games this season. The Dynamo had less possession, 47 percent, on Oct. 27 at Colorado, but had 57% possession against Philadelphia on Oct. 20, 56% against Montreal, 66% against New England, 54% against Philadelphia on Sept. 23, lost the possession battle to Sporting Kansas City (59‐41%) and Real Salt Lake (58‐42%) but have mostly controlled possession. Houston had 67% against Chicago on Sept. 2, 58% against Toronto on Aug. 22, 65% against Columbus, 55% at New York on Aug. 10, 52% vs. New York on Aug. 3, 60% at Toronto, 58% vs. Montreal, a season‐high 71% against Kansas City on July 18 and 67% vs. D.C. United. Houston lost the possession battle to Sporting KC on July 7, 50.2%‐49.8%, had 61% vs. Chicago on July 3, 55% vs. Philadelphia, had less, 53‐47%, at Montreal, had 63% vs. Toronto, 54% against FC Dallas, 54% at Vancouver, 60% vs. LA, 62% at New England, 60% vs. Portland, 56% vs. D.C., 53% at New York, 54% at D.C., a 49‐51% disadvantage at Columbus, 55% at Chicago, 56% at Seattle, a disadvantage (48‐52%) at San Jose, and 53% at Chivas USA.



Dynamo set franchise points record: With the 3‐1 win over Philadelphia on Oct. 20, the Dynamo set a new mark for points in a season, 53, surpassing the previous club record, 52, set in 2007.



Dynamo advance to Champions League quarterfinals: The Dynamo secured passage to the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions League with a 1‐1 draw versus C.D. Olimpia of Honduras on Oct. 23 at BBVA Compass Stadium. Andre Hainault’s second‐half header was the equalizer for the Dynamo (2‐0‐2), who won Group 3 with eight points to advance to the knockout stage, set for next March. It is Houston’s first trip to the CCL quarterfinals since 2009.



Boniek García continues strong start: Boniek Garcia scored his fourth goal with the Dynamo in the 3‐1 win over Philadelphia on Oct. 20. The Dynamo are 11‐5‐6 in MLS play (playoffs included) since the Honduran midfielder’s debut on June 30 (record includes 1‐0 win over Real Salt Lake when Garcia missed game for international duty and 2‐0 defeat at Colorado on Oct. 27 in which Garcia did not play). Garcia has four goals and six assists and has played 90 minutes in each of his 20 games. Houston has outscored its opponents 31‐18 in the 20 matches Garcia has played. Despite not playing in the first 15 games of the season, Garcia had the second most assists on the club, six. The 28‐year‐old Designated Player signed with Houston on June 7 after playing for Honduran powerhouse C.D. Olimpia since 2003. The midfielder debuted for the Honduras national team in 2005 and has 73 appearances for his country, including five appearances in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup.



Cold Blooded: The temperature at kickoff for Sunday’s 3‐1 win over D.C. United was 82 degrees. The Dynamo are now 12‐1‐4 this year when the temperature is 80 degrees or more. 14 of the 17 games were at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston. Houston was 9‐1‐6 in temperatures of 80+ in 2011, so the club is 21‐2‐10 since 2011 when the temperature is 80+.



Brad Davis, Midfield Maestro: Midfielder Brad Davis recorded his 12th assist of the season on Sept. 29 vs. New England. It is the fourth consecutive season the all‐star midfielder recorded 12 or more assists in a season. Davis had 16 assists in 2011 (career‐high) and 12 assists in 2010 and 2009. Davis finished with the fifth most assists in the league, trailing leader Graham Zusi (15) of Sporting Kansas City.



Bruin finishes one shy of Ching’s regular season goals mark: Will Bruin scored his 12th goal of the season on Oct. 6 vs. Montreal and finished the season one goal shy of Brian Ching’s franchise record of 13 goals in 2008. Bruin is one of only three players in team history to reach 10 goals, joining Ching (13 in 2008, 11 in 2006) and Dwayne De Rosario (11 in 2006).



Davis sets career‐high for goals: Midfielder Brad Davis extended his career‐high for goals in a season with his eighth goal of the campaign on Oct. 20 vs. Philadelphia. Davis’ previous high for goals was six, set with Dallas in 2003.



Dynamo win MLS Reserve League Central/Mountain division title: The Dynamo captured the Major League Soccer Reserve League Central/Mountain division championship with a 2‐1 win over the Chicago Fire on Oct. 13. Cam Weaver scored both goals for the Dynamo and led the club in scoring with 11 goals in nine games. The Dynamo Reserves finish the season 6‐2‐2 (20 points), a point better than rival FC Dallas (6‐3‐1, 19 points) to capture the division crown. It is Houston’s second MLS Reserve League division title. The Dynamo won the division crown in 2008 with a 9‐1‐2 record.



Hall breaks former mentor Pat Onstad’s shutout record: Goalkeeper Tally Hall recorded his 12th shutout of the season on Sept. 29 against New England. With the clean sheet, Hall passed former teammate Pat Onstad, who set an individual franchise record with 11 shutouts in 2007, when the club had a total of 13 clean sheets in 30 regular season games. Hall finished tied for second in the league in shutouts, trailing only Jimmy Nielsen of Sporting Kansas City (15).



Boswell sets career‐high for games in a season: Dynamo defender Bobby Boswell played in his 31st regular season game of the season on Sept. 29 vs. New England, surpassing his previous career‐high for games in a season of 30, set in 2006. The 29‐ year‐old has been a mainstay since his 2005 rookie season, appearing in at least 23 games and making 22 starts or more each season. Boswell has averaged 28.13 games and 27.75 starts per season in his eight‐year career. Boswell started on Oct. 20 versus Philadelphia for his 225th career regular season game.



Davis continues to climb MLS all‐time assist chart: Dynamo midfielder Brad Davis recorded his 92nd career regular season assist on Sept. 29 vs. New England to pass Cobi Jones for seventh on the MLS all‐time assist chart. Davis is now nine assists behind the next man on the chart, Marco Etcheverry, who is sixth with 101 assists. Dynamo assistant coach Steve Ralston is the all‐time leader, with 135 assists.



Second Half Savants: The Dynamo were 7‐3‐8 in regular season games in which they were tied at halftime and 7‐0‐2 when leading at the interval. Houston is 14‐3‐10 when tied or leading at the break.



Kinnear passes Nicol on MLS all‐time wins chart: With the 2‐0 win over New England on Sept. 29, Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear passed Steve Nicol on the all‐time Major League Soccer wins chart. Kinnear has 114 wins in nine seasons as head coach between Houston and San Jose and is tied for fourth on the all‐time wins list.

Dynamo newcomer Giles Barnes makes debut at Kansas City: Midfielder Giles Barnes made his Dynamo debut on Sept. 14 at Kansas City. Barnes, 24, entered as a substitute for the final nine minutes of the 1‐1 draw. Barnes joins Houston with eight years of experience in the upper levels of English soccer. He has 138 total appearances in all competitions, including 35 games in the Barclays English Premier League. Barnes also made 12 appearances for England’s U‐19 national team. The attacking midfielder joined Derby County of England in 2005 at age 17 and helped the Rams gain promotion to the English Premier League in 2007. Barnes scored ten goals in 84 appearances with Derby County and earned its Young Player of the Year award in 2007. The London native spent 2010‐11 with West Bromwich Albion of the English Premier League and made 19 appearances for the Baggies. Barnes played the 2011‐12 season with Doncaster Rovers of the English Championship, the second tier of English soccer. The winger tallied one goal and four assists in 36 appearances in all competitions last season.



Ching ties Diaz Arce for 11th on MLS all‐time goal list: Dynamo forward Brian Ching scored his 82nd career MLS regular season goal on Sept. 2 at Chicago. Ching is now tied for 11th on the all‐time MLS scoring list with Raul Diaz Arce. Ching’s next target is 88 goals, where Carlos Ruiz and Roy Lassiter sit tied for ninth on the league’s all‐time chart.



Ching sets new career‐high for games played: Dynamo forward Brian Ching set a new career‐high for regular season games played in a season on Sept. 2, with his 26th game of 2012. It is Ching’s 11th season in MLS, and the veteran twice recorded 25‐game seasons, in 2008 and 2004.



Carr sets career high with fourth goal: Calen Carr set a career high with his fourth goal of the season on Aug. 3 All four goals were scored in a four‐game span, including two versus Kansas City on July 18. Carr scored 3 goals in 2010 and 2007.



Ricardo Clark returns to Dynamo: Ricardo Clark made his return debut for the Dynamo on Aug. 10 at New York, appearing as a substitute for the final 15 minutes. The Dynamo completed the signing of the free agent midfielder on Aug. 8. Since leaving the Dynamo at the end of the 2009 season, Clark played for Eintracht Frankfurt of the German second division through February, when he was loaned to Stabæk Fotball of the Norwegian first division. A cornerstone of Houston’s 2006 and 2007 championship teams, Clark, a member of the 2006 MLS Best XI, scored 7 goals in 97 games played for the Dynamo between 2006 and 2009. Additionally, Clark has been capped 34 times by the U.S. Men’s National Team, including two starts in the 2010 World Cup.



Cameron receives U.K. visa to complete transfer to Stoke City: Former Dynamo defender Geoff Cameron was granted a United Kingdom visa on Aug. 8, completing his transfer to English Premier League club Stoke City. Cameron, 27, made 116 regular season appearances for the club in five seasons, scoring 11 goals with 15 assists. The Attleboro, Mass. native played various roles in central midfield and center back for the Dynamo and was named an MLS All‐Star in 2009, 2011 and 2012. Cameron also won Houston’s Golden Boot in 2011 with five goals and five assists in a career‐high 33 games.



Three’s Company (shutouts): After going over three years without three consecutive shutouts, the Dynamo recorded three clean sheets in a row twice in a seven‐game span in July and August. Houston kept its third straight clean sheet on Aug. 3 versus New York after recording three in a row to begin July. Before the run of six clean sheets in seven games, the last time Houston recorded three straight was May 30 – June 10, 2009.



Davis, Cameron named All‐Stars: Midfielder Brad Davis and former Dynamo defender Geoff Cameron were named to the inactive roster for the 2012 MLS All‐Star Game. The Dynamo pair were among a group of 13 players named All‐Stars that did not compete in MLS’ 3‐2 win against Chelsea FC on July 25. The 13 inactive All‐Stars were voted on by the players. It is the fourth straight year that Davis is an All‐Star, and his fifth selection overall.



Hall sets goalkeeper consecutive starts record: Tally Hall set a franchise record for consecutive regular season starts by a goalkeeper with his 47th consecutive start against FC Dallas on June 16. He broke the record of 46 set by Pat Onstad, from Sept. 13, 2008 – May 13, 2010. Hall started all 34 games in 2011 and the first 33 games in 2012, pushing the active record to 67 games, before the streak was snapped on Oct. 27 at Colorado.

• BBVA Compass Stadium opener: The Dynamo opened the 13th soccer‐specific stadium in Major League Soccer on May 12. On a gorgeous, 82‐degree day in front of a sell‐out crowd of 22,039, the Dynamo honored past legends, including Wade Barrett, Pat Onstad, Eddie Robinson and Craig Waibel in a pregame ceremony that included the unveiling of 2006 and 2007 MLS Cup championship banners. Brad Davis provided a signature opening moment, delivering a beautiful, curling 30‐ yard strike for the game‐winning goal in the 67th minute.

UP NEXT: MLS CUP 2012 The winner of the two‐game, aggregate score series between the Dynamo and D.C. United will advance to MLC Cup, set for Saturday, Dec. 1.

A goal in each half by forward Will Bruin gave the Houston Dynamo the victory against the Chicago Fire in the Eastern Conference Knockout Round match at Toyota Park. It was the first road win in more than three months for the reigning Eastern Conference champions. Bruin's first goal came on a free near-post header in the 12th minute on a corner kick from teammate Brad Davis, getting free in the heart of the penalty area and bouncing a deflected shot past Chicago goalkeeper Sean Johnson. Then, just 19 seconds after halftime, Bruin got his second on a blistering diagonal shot from inside the area after he was sprung by former Fire forward Calen Carr on the heels of a costly Chicago turnover. The Fire pulled a goal back in the 83rd minute when he ran onto a ball from Patrick Nyarko from the left flank and sent an angled shot off the far post and into the goal. But the rest of the match was an exercise in game management by the Dynamo, to advance into the semifinal series.

The LA Galaxy's title defense moved on after a stirring comeback against visiting Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Vancouver went ahead after just 182 seconds through rookie Darren Mattocks' finish, after carved out a yard of space in the area to finish a pass from Matt Watson. The Whitecaps' bunker defense then repeatedly thwarted LA's attack until the home side hit with two quick goals midway through the second half. LA outshot Vancouver, 23-9, but put only seven on target, and Whitecaps goalkeeper Brad Knighton was superb all night, his best save on a David Beckham free kick headed inside the left post just before halftime. But the equalizer came in the 69th minute. Beckham played a short corner to Juninho, who found Magee sneaking alone into the box and set him up perfectly for a side volley which gave Knighton no chance. Then four minutes later, Landon Donovan was trundled over by substitute Martin Bonjour in the area, and he finished his own penalty kick with aplomb for his record 21st postseason goal.

The first playoff match at RFK Stadium in five years had it all as the New York Red Bulls tied D.C. United 1-1 in a wild Eastern Conference Semifinal Series first leg. The Houston Dynamo extended their unbeaten streak at home, handing top-seeded Sporting Kansas City a 2-0 loss in the first leg of their Eastern Conference Semifinal Series at BBVA Compass Stadium. The Dynamo opened the scoring in the 18th minute behind a brilliant strike from Adam Moffat. With Kansas City struggling to clear their area following a corner kick in the 18th minute, Will Bruin, nodded the ball into Moffat's path, and from well out of the area he unleashed a technically perfect strike inside the back post that Jimmy Nielsen could only wave at as it whizzed past him. Houston gradually took control of the game and eventually cashed in to score an all-important second goal 15 minutes from the end. Calen Carr turned KC defender Aurélien Collin and sped toward the end line, eventually picking out Bruin for a simple finish inside the six-yard box. The scoreline was a repeat of last season’s 2-0 Dynamo victory in the Eastern Conference Championship at Livestrong Sporting Park.

Seattle Sounders FC and Real Salt Lake settled for their third 0-0 draw of the season, this time in the first leg of their Western Conference Semifinal Series. Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando was tested more often, making five saves, including diving stops off a pair of backto-back corners in the 33rd minute. First, he stopped a Sammy Ochoa header and then moments later he robbed Jhon Kennedy Hurtado's diving effort. But his performance was made even more impressive by the fact that he played the final 20 minutes after a collision gave him a swollen eye and nearly knocked him out of the game. Sounders FC goalkeeper Michael Gspurning made four saves, his last saving the result in the 85th minute when he dove to his right to stop an Álvaro Saborío header. No goals have been scored in the last 299 minutes that the two teams have played against one another.

The San Jose Earthquakes did it again, getting a goal late in stoppage time to overcome the LA Galaxy in the first leg opener of their Western Conference semifinal series at the Home Depot Center. It was an intense, defense-minded affair, with the Galaxy having more and better opportunities. Robbie Keane nearly broke the tie in the 86th minute, but his 26-yard blast caromed off the crossbar. Then in the 94th-minute, Víctor Bernárdez's free kick from 31 yards got through the Galaxy wall at the top of the box then goalkeeper Josh Saunders, who was unable to prevent the ball from rolling over the goal line. It was the fifth time this season the Quakes have scored a stoppage-time winner, including the May 23 meeting with the Galaxy in Carson, in which Alan Gordon headed home a 94th-minute decider as San Jose rallied from a two-goal deficit for a 3-2 triumph.

D.C. United advanced to the Eastern Conference Championship after a late goal gave them a wild 1-0 win in the second leg of their semifinal series, the match postponed a day due to a heavy snowstorm. The match exploded in the 69th minute after referee Mark Geiger ruled that United goalkeeper Bill Hamid clipped Kenny Cooper on a breakaway inside the penalty area, giving a penalty kick and sending off Hamid. Cooper then took the ensuing spot kick against substitute Joe Willis and converted it, but it was called back as Henry and Tim Cahill were called for encroachment. On Cooper’s retake, he was denied by Willis, who dove low and to his left. Six minutes later, Rafa Márquez was sent off with a second yellow card for a foul on Chris Pontius, leaving both teams to finish the match with 10 men. With the game on the brink of extra time, Nick DeLeon found the winner when he got in behind New York’s defense two minutes from full time after a gorgeous through ball from Robbie Russell and hit a low shot past Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles inside the far post.

The Houston Dynamo advanced to a second straight Eastern Conference Championship, holding off Sporting Kansas City in their quest to erase a 2-0 first-leg deficit. Seth Sinovic scored the game's lone goal for SKC, allowing the Dynamo to survive 2-1 on aggregate. Despite wave after wave of attacks, Sporting couldn’t truly test Tally Hall in the Dynamo goal as Houston kept 10 men behind the ball. They finally broke through in the 64th minute. Kei Kamara drove the ball into the final third with a trademark run, laying off to a streaking Graham Zusi, who lifted the ball to the back post for a diving header by overlapping left back Sinovic from close range. Houston managed just three shots, none in the second half, as they focused on defending their narrow lead in the face of unrelenting SKC pressure.

For the first time, Seattle Sounders FC were victorious in an MLS playoff series, getting the only goal of the entire Western Conference Semifinal in a 1-0 second-leg victory against Real Salt Lake. Mario Martínez, who started in place of the injured Mauro Rosales, made the most of his opportunity on the biggest of stages with his first-ever Seattle goal. Brad Evans first found Fredy Montero at the top of the box with enough time and space to pick out Martínez unmarked at the far post. The Honduran ripped a one-timer on the half-volley, beating RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando to the back post. It was the the first Seattle goal scored against RSL in all competitions this season, in five matches total. RSL had the run of play and the better chances on the night, forcing forced Sounders ‘keeper Michael Gspurning into perhaps his best performance of the season, with nine saves in all.

The LA Galaxy finally beat the San Jose Earthquakes, taking a 3-1 win at Buck Shaw Stadium and completing a 3-2 aggregate victory in the Western Conference Semifinal Series. The Galaxy were on the way early. Robbie Keane walked through San Jose’s midfield and knocked a 22-yard shot off the post to tie the series on aggregate in the 21st minute. The Irish international then slipped in behind San Jose’s scattered backline on a 34th-minute counterattack, collecting a through ball from Landon Donovan and rounding Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch before slotting it home for his second of the evening. Mike Magee delivered the insurance goal in the 39th minute, making an unmarked run to the penalty spot and one-timing a pass from Donovan on the right. Alan Gordon gave San Jose hope in the 82nd minute when he turned home a mis-hit shot from Justin Morrow for his first career playoff goal. But the Earthquakes could not find the equalizer they needed to force overtime, as defender Ike Opara had a clear shot in second-half injury time, but pushed it over the bar.

The Houston Dynamo overcame an early opening goal to defeat D.C. United 3-1 in the first leg of their conference championship. The visitors took the lead in the 27th minute. Lionard Pajoy smacked the post with a terrific effort, but Nick DeLeon put the rebound into the back of the net. The Dynamo were level six minutes after the second-half restart. From a quickly taken free kick, Boniek Garcia drove a low ball across the sixyard box, where Andre Hainault buried it at the back post. United were hit by injuries, making all three substitutions before the hour mark, yet still nearly regained the lead, but Bobby Boswell headed a Pajoy effort off the line in the 67th minute. Barely a minute later Will Bruin made it 2-1 to Houston, bundling the ball home from close range after United 'keeper Joe Willis deflected a low cross after Giles Barnes turned the corner on the left. The Dynamo put the game away in the 80th minute. After United failed to clear corner, Kofi Sarkodie and Luiz Camargo played a nifty one-two, Sarkodie finishing it by finding the far corner with a low, driven shot.

The LA Galaxy moved within 90 minutes of a record eighth MLS Cup final after a 3-0 rout against Seattle Sounders FC at The Home Depot Center. Robbie Keane scored two goals, his first coming in the first minute of first-half stoppage time. After a bit of clever build-up play, Landon Donovan sent a chip from the endline on the right to the opposite post where Keane slipped in to nod home. LA finished off the Sounders with two goals in a four-minute span midway through the second half. Mike Magee made it 2-0, finishing off a counter. Keane played the ball wide to Sean Franklin on the right flank, and his cross into the box found Magee alone in front of the net, where his first-time shot left goalkeeper Michael Gspurning no chance. Keane got the third three minutes later, after Donovan's shot from the top of the box was deflected, bounding high toward Christian Wilhelmsson near the right post. The Swedish winger chested down the ball, then poked it toward the left post where Keane raced in to knock it into the net.
