Main Entrance
The main entrance to the Hess Center for Science and Medicine is a hub of activity within the building, playing a vital role in the daily life of Mount Sinai patients, physicians, researchers, and visitors.Â

Hess Center for Science & Medicine Scheduled for completion in 2012, the Hess Center for Science and Medicine will serve as the focal point for Mount Sinai’s translational research efforts. The building is designed to increase interaction and collaboration among scientists and physicians practicing a variety of disciplines, and will include six full floors of laboratory space and three full floors of clinical space. Upon its completion, the Hess Center for Science and Medicine will boast almost a half million square feet of space, augmenting Mount Sinai’s overall research capacity by a full 30 percent.

Lobby FLOOR 1
The Madison Avenue Lobby is the main entrance to the Hess Center for Science and Medicine, providing direct access to the floors above. A highly visible space within a heavily trafficked area, the Lobby welcomes patients, physicians, researchers and visitors traveling through the building.

Atrium FLOOR 1
The Madison Avenue Atrium provides Mount Sinai physicians, researchers, patients, and visitors with a destination to gather and dine individually or in small groups. Located on the first floor alongside Madison Avenue, the Atrium will offer self-service dining.

Elevator Banks FLOOR 1
The Research Elevator Bank is accessible to all of the scientists who will be contributing to translational research efforts. The Elevators will take them from the first floor of the Hess Center for Science and Medicine to the laboratory floors where they can conduct their research. Â

Imaging Center and Radiation Oncology Center
Housed in the lower level of the Hess Center for Science and Medicine, the Imaging Center and Radiation Oncology Center will enhance the use of seamless diagnostics and treatment methods for our patients. This state-ofthe-art space was strategically designed to be flexible; it was built for today’s leading-edge research and clinical equipment, but it will also accommodate the evolution of clinical and research platforms as new technologies emerge in the coming years.

Imaging Center FLOOR SC2
The Imaging Center, housed on the lower level of the Center, allows new technologies to play a crucial role in translational research as well as in the detection of risk factors and monitoring a range of health conditions in patients. The Imaging Center applies the most leading-edge imaging modalities, in both preclinical basic science and clinical research settings, to improve diagnostic accuracy, enhance the understanding of pathophysiology and metabolism, and measure therapeutic efficacy. Physician-scientists who work in this space will advance the science of imaging—from the development of new visualization technologies to improved contrast agents that help investigators “see� their novel therapeutics at work. The Center will serve as a research catalyst by providing researchers and clinicians across all disciplines at Mount Sinai with comprehensive access to complex imaging technologies. The Imaging Center will also support and integrate advances in imaging physics, engineering, nanomedicine and nanochemistry, and image analysis.

Radiation Oncology Center FLOOR SC2
The Radiation Oncology Center of the Tisch Cancer Institute will be a serene and patient-centered space conducive to the types of therapies that will be taking place there. The Radiation Oncology Center will be almost double the size of the current facility, allowing patients an ample and comfortable environment when undergoing treatment.Â

Second Floor
Featuring the most advanced technology available, the Second Floor will include a Conference Center with a Lecture Hall that seats 144, two multipurpose Seminar Rooms that can seat up to 120 each, and a smaller pre-function Conference Room.

Conference Center FLOOR 2
The Conference Center, featuring a lecture hall, two seminar rooms and a pre-function conference room, will enable the Hess Center for Science and Medicine to present research findings and host a variety of lectures and meetings to ensure that the Center can be at the forefront of translational research reporting and teaching.

Lecture Hall FLOOR 2
The Lecture Hall, located prominently on the second floor, welcomes physicians, researchers, students, and visitors for an interactive educational experience in a state-of-the-art space. Seating 144 people and fully ADA compliant, this spacious facility will host a variety of grand round talks, educational events and clinical conferences.

Seminar Rooms (2) FLOOR 2
The Seminar Rooms, located prominently on the second floor of the Hess Center for Science and Medicine, provide a centrally located learning environment for physicians, researchers, students, and visitors. The two available Seminar Rooms also feature flexible seating, which can be configured to seat 120 people at desks or 60 people at work stations. Both configurations are shown below. Seminar Rooms

The Tisch Cancer Institute
The Tisch Cancer Institute will bring together Mount Sinai’s exceptional scientists and clinicians from multiple disciplines that will predict, prevent and treat cancer. With space for both clinical care for patients and translational research, the Tisch Cancer Institute will provide a seamless continuum of research from the laboratory to the bedside of those that need it most, with an uncompromising focus on the whole patient as an individual.

The Tisch Cancer Institute—Clinical Care FLOORS 3&4
Clinicians will pioneer more technologically advanced, minimally invasive surgical procedures designed to improve the quality of life of cancer patients. Clinical programs will include liver oncology, breast oncology, prostate oncology, head and neck oncology, and hematological malignancies.

The move of cancer clinical services into the Hess Center for Science and Medicine will include the relocation of the Ruttenberg Treatment Center, which provides unparalleled outpatient services for patients with cancer. The move into the Center will add 27 exam rooms for a total of 48. The Center will provide a larger, centralized space for The Tisch Cancer Institute’s outstanding nursing staff, two spacious, comfortable waiting rooms for patients and families, and a number of new consultation rooms where physician and nursing teams can collaborate with patients to develop customized care plans for each patient. The expanded space in the Center is strategically designed to facilitate the flow of patients, reduce appointment wait times, and enhance patient comfort.

The Tisch Cancer Institute—Clinical Care FLOOR 4
Chemotherapy is one of the most common and effective treatment cancer therapies available today. A new, leading-edge Infusion Suite, to be located on the fourth floor of the Center, will be at the heart of The Tisch Cancer Institute. The move into the Center includes a significant expansion of the Ruttenberg Treatment Center’s current chemotherapy facilities, adding 26 state-of-the-art infusion stations (54 total, several of which are dedicated to experimental chemotherapy treatments).

This floor was strategically designed to provide patients receiving chemotherapy infusions with a relaxing and comfortable environment, making routine treatments efficient and as minimally disruptive as possible —in turn, helping our patients to live full, productive lives despite their cancer diagnosis.

The Tisch Cancer Institute—Research FLOORS 5&6
Researchers will aggressively pursue ongoing basic research as well as biobehavioral, developmental and molecular biology, stem cells, cancer biology, and pharmacology and epidemiology programs that improve the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancer. This new space will allow for 20–25 additional researchers per floor.

Featuring state-of-the-art technology, the Research Laboratories of the Hess Center for Science and Medicine will allow scientists to pursue novel research techniques in a forward-thinking environment. By providing a work environment that is conducive to their needs, researchers will be able to focus on looking at the causes and finding the cures that drive their work.Â

Friedman Brain Institute
The Friedman Brain Institute will be a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment to advance scientific and clinical research associated with disorders of the brain and spinal cord. The Institute will advance our understanding of these diseases, drive innovative approaches to new treatments and diagnostic tests of these disorders, and train the next generation of researchers and clinicians in brain science.

Friedman Brain Institute FLOORS 9&10
Researchers will focus on defining the mechanisms underlying brain and nervous system diseases and translating those findings into preventative or restorative interventions. The goals include advancing brain repair, developing new ways to advance cognition, and improving the treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders. Researchers will also continue their groundbreaking work in aging-related illnesses like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.

Faculty Practice Associates
Mount Sinai’s physicians see patients in a multi-specialty group practice with more than 900 world-class physicians and surgeons, offering services ranging from primary care to sophisticated disease management and complex surgeries. To create a space that enables our physicians, nurses, and administrative staff to provide tomorrow’s medicine today, Mount Sinai is constructing a state-of-the-art Physician Practice Center on the lower levels of the new residential tower, currently being built adjacent to the Hess Center for Science and Medicine.

Faculty Practice Associates On 102nd street, Mount Sinai is erecting a striking new 43-story tower, which will offer luxury residential units for sale and lease on its upper floors. Mount Sinai’s robust physician practice will also relocate into the 1st, 4th, and 5th floors of this new building in a state-of-the-art, 43,000square-foot office and patient care annex, the Faculty Practice Associates. Physicians practicing at Mount Sinai have three distinct but related missions: promoting education, providing clinical service, and conducting research. These talented doctors carry out much of their clinical mission at the Faculty Practice Associates (FPA), a multispecialty group practice offering services ranging from primary care to the most advanced approaches to disease management available today. The Faculty Practice Associate’s street entrance on 102nd Street will offer maximum visibility for the bustling space, which will also be linked to the Hess Center for Science and Medicine building’s clinical floors.

Faculty Practice Associates With the relocation of Mount Sinai’s physician practice to two and a half floors of the new FPA annex, patients will be greeted at a staffed information desk in the spacious, contemporary entry room. This highly visible new space was thoughtfully designed to ensure the highest service-related standards for patients. Examination and consultation rooms occupying the rest of the new space will allow FPA to provide care for more patients faster and in a more comfortable environment, improving patient satisfaction while also raising the profile of this large multidisciplinary faculty practice.
