Rob O’Driscoll
Year at JMU: Sixth Hometown: Philadelphia, Pa. College: Villanova 1994 Rob O’Driscoll joined the JMU staff immediately after Matt Brady’s hiring as head coach in March 2008 and serves as the associate head coach on the Dukes’ staff. He assists in every aspect of the program’s organization and operation. At JMU, O’Driscoll has helped a program that posted eight consecutive losing seasons turn things around with three 21-win campaigns in five years. His contributions were instrumental in JMU earning the program’s first Colonial Athletic Association championship in 19 years in 2013. Madison went on to defeat LIU Brooklyn in the NCAA First Four for the program’s first NCAA win in 30 years. Altogether, the Dukes have advanced to postseason competition in each of the 21-win seasons with three postseason victories recorded. JMU also finished in the top 100 of the national
RPI for the 2010-11 season after going 21-12. JMU is 88-82 during his four seasons. O’Driscoll was Brady’s top assistant during each of the head coach’s four years (2004-2008) at Marist, and served as recruiting coordinator. He was also responsible for the team’s scheduling, handled opponent scouting duties and worked with player development. O’Driscoll was instrumental in the development of 2007 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Year Jared Jordan, who went on to become the 45th overall selection in the 2007 NBA Draft. “Rob has been with me the entire time I’ve been a head coach and is a tremendous asset,” Brady said. “He’s very detail-oriented and incredibly thorough. He’s an outstanding coach who keeps me on track.” While at Marist, O’Driscoll helped the Red Foxes to a 73-50 overall record and to the MAAC regular-season championship in 2006-07 when Brady was league and New York City area Coach of the Year. Marist won at Oklahoma State in the postseason National Invitation Tournament in 2007. Marist improved its victories total from the previous year during each of the first three seasons O’Driscoll assisted Brady, and the Red Foxes went 18-14 in 2007-08, despite playing most of the second half of the season without their second-leading scorer. The 2006-07 team went 25-9 and won the school’s MAAC regularseason championship before being invited to the NIT. Marist was 11-17 and 19-10 during Brady’s first two seasons after going 6-22 the year before his hiring. O’Driscoll went to Marist after six seasons as an assistant at Iona under Jeff Ruland. At Iona, he helped the Gaels win back-to-back MAAC titles and earn NCAA tournament berths in 1999-2000 and 2000-01, while helping them achieve an overall record of 98-81. O’Driscoll also worked from 1996-98 as an assistant coach at Manhattan College under John Leonard. The Philadelphia native began his coaching career in 1994 at Villanova, where, as the administrative assistant, he helped the Wildcats earn consecutive top-10 final national rankings, and a No. 3 seed in both the 1995 and 1996 NCAA tournaments. As a college undergraduate, O’Driscoll lettered three times in tennis at Villanova and was selected to the 1992-93 Big East All-Academic Team. He received his undergraduate degree in accounting and a master’s in business administration from Villanova in 1997. O’Driscoll is married to the former Suzanne Lowry.
