facilities James Madison University has made a commitment to its athletics program and the facilities needed to give the teams the best opportunity to succeed in the conference, regionally and nationally. • The newly-expanded Bridgeforth Stadium/ Zone Showker Field debuted Sept. 10 with a capacity crowd of 25,000 people. The expanded facility featured a second deck of seating and permanent end zone structure along with a club level, private suites, new press box and a larger, state-of-the-art video board. • Godwin Hall houses a 5,000-seat gymnasium, an 800-seat natatorium and areas for strength training and indoor practices. • Facilities also include a lighted, two-field soccer/lacrosse complex, and a lighted field hockey/track and field complex with a synthetic playing surface. • JMU’s baseball and softball programs began play in the spring of 2010 in the new Veterans Memorial Stadium complex, a lighted facility that provides an outstanding playing venue for each program. The new complex includes new stadiums with top-of-the line amenities and press box as well as new offices, locker rooms and indoor practice facilities in the adjacent Memorial Hall. • The golf programs enjoy two new on-campus shortgame practice facilities, including an indoor facility with video analysis, chipping and putting areas as well as an outdoor facility that includes driving ability as well as chipping and putting greens with a variety of terrain to give the teams the ability to practice in short time frames. • Construction is underway on University Park off Port Republic Road, which will have recreation facilities as well as practice and competition facilities for men’s and women’s soccer, women’s lacrosse and women’s track and field in the spring of 2012, with an eventual expansion for field hockey at the facility.
