A Message from the Coach Welcome to JMU women’s soccer. As the program’s first and only head coach, I am extremely proud of the history, tradition and reputation we have built here. Our players excel in the classroom, on the field and ultimately in the real world. Our schedule is always among the toughest because good players deserve to test their talents against the best. JMU women’s soccer continues to be one of the top programs in Virginia, in the CAA, the Mid-Atlantic region and in the nation… that is always our goal. Nestled in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, JMU boasts tranquility, safety and a community that is committed to JMU athletics. The university has established itself with national rankings in many academic categories and is always evolving to chase its goal of being the best undergraduate university in the nation. The Essence of JMU Soccer • We tied a top three school, Maryland, 0-0, which showed how much heart we had. - Kelly Abt (‘15) • Watch “Bridesmaids” and popular YouTube videos and you’ll fit in! - Becky Sparks (‘14) • Whenever we go on away trips and someone on the team lives close, the parents will host a dinner. This is so enjoyable because we get to hang out and eat a home-cooked meal. It shows how dedicated everyone, including the parents, is to JMU soccer. It’s always a great time and relaxing. - Dana O’Brien (‘13) • When we were down 3-1 to Hofstra, we all fought hard and tied it 3-3 and won it 4-3 in overtime. To do something like that takes a lot of heart and a lot of spirit. - Katie Hyland (‘15) • Before each game, after the coaches give us a pregame talk, all the girls come together and say a chant that gets us pumped up for the game and reminds us that we are a team and a family. - Ellen Forrest (‘15) • We have a team donkey that the coach gives to the player who has done or said the dumbest thing. Every time he tried to reach for it, it flew out of his grasp further from the sidelines, deeper into the field, until finally he was almost in the run of play and almost got trampled by the players on the field that were still playing the game. It’s just that type of joking attitude that we love to instill, still having fun but making sure we get things done at the same time!”

Nov. 14, 2010, Chapel Hill N.C. JMU and defending NCAA champion North Carolina are deadlocked at 1-1 at halftime, but the Tar Heels pull away for a 3-1 win in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The second-seeded Dukes win their third CAA title with a 2-0 upset of top-seeded and 18th-ranked Hofstra. The win ended the Pride’s NCAA-leading 18-game winning streak and was the first home loss for Hofstra since Oct. 9, 2009. Goalkeeper Diane Wszalek was honored as the tournament’s Most Outstanding Performer after earning her league-leading eighth shutout of the year and stopping a PK in a shootout in the tournament semifinals.
