High School Profile About JIS

Jakarta International School is an independent, co-educational institution offering university preparation primarily for expatriate students. JIS is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) as well as the East Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS). Instruction is in English and all students earn a U.S. High School Diploma. Students may elect to enroll in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma during grades 11 and 12 or enroll in individual IB and / or Advanced Placement (AP®) courses. The calendar covers 36 weeks over two academic semesters, August to December and January

to June. Students attend four 85-minute class periods per school day.

Jakarta International School is a founding member of the Global Online Academy, a consortium of the world’s leading independent schools. GOA’s mission is to translate into online classrooms the intellectually rigorous programs and excellent teaching that are hallmarks of its member schools. www.globalonlineacademy.org

Students

Of the 906 high school students, about 20% are from the United States, 18% from South Korea, 16.11% from Indonesia, and the remaining 40% are from more than 45 nations, including India, Canada, Australia, the Philippines and the United Kingdom.

The faculty includes 100 members from 17 countries: 57 hold master’s degrees, 3 have doctorates.

We encourage our students to get involved, try something new, and to make a positive difference for the world. As such, we offer a wide variety of activities, including service clubs,

sports and fitness clubs, special interest clubs, language clubs, academic clubs and honor societies, as well as 11 varsity sports for both boys and girls.

High School Counseling JIS provides a comprehensive school counseling program, including numerous group sessions, individualized course and career planning, extracurricular student and parent workshops, and multiple information sessions all throughout the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior years. It is designed to inform our community as well as to offer multiple opportunities for us to better know our students.
