Look at the tail and the wrist of the lure. Not all paddle足tails are equal. You want a weight that you can cast but one that allows the lure to either hang, or slowly kick on the drop. They'll mostly all kick on the retrieve but that isn't what the bass always want. This is especially true of big bass.
