Who would have thought that this waspossible, when in December 2007 fi verepresentatives of different jazz initiativesfrom fi ve European countries met for the fi rsttime at the jazz club “domicil” in Dortmund,Germany, in order to start a journey to Europetogether?—A journey, which - also becauseplanned and organised together—has notalways been easy and still not is. But thatis why it is an absolute necessity: Europe,that’s us!—Not the institutions in Brussels,but each one of us. jazzplayseurope tells ofthis Europe and of perennial cooperationbetween very different, big as well assmall organisations from meanwhile sevencountries, which do not only talk, but indeedact. Initiated by Nadin Deventer in 2007with RUHR.2010 in mind, the EuropeanCapital of Culture in 2010, jazzplayseuropehas emerged from the understanding thatstructural networking and exchange betweenthe regional musicians’ scenes in Europe ismissing.
