PURCHASING DETAILS LIGHTHOUSE BEACH Lighthouse Beach was historically known as Tacking Point being originally named in 1802 by Matthew Flinders as he sailed and tacked towards the headland a few miles south of the Mouth of the Hastings River. The lighthouse on the Tacking Point head land was built in 1879 and is Australia’s third oldest but it wasn’t until the late 1960’s that the area attracted the eye of the developers and the first residential blocks were sold. In the mid 70’s development began to creep westwards as the land in the inner beachside areas was sold off. In the 80’s the Lighthouse area boomed and estates such as Emerald Downs, Lighthouse Beach Estate, Marbuk Park and Sandhurst developed.
