guide for staff The basics: What does the Library offer? A quiet space for pupils to read, do research and complete extended learning. Books: Non-fiction to help with research and fiction for reading for pleasure. Magazines and journals. National and local newspapers Thirty computers The Library can be booked for lessons. Just speak with the Librarian (Mr Iona) to find out when the Library is available and how we can support and cater for your class. The provision of resources also depends on input and advice from you. Please book a meeting, send an email or drop-in for a chat to discuss how we can best support the teaching and learning of pupils in your subject area.
What can the Library and Librarian offer you? Here is a (by no means exhaustive) list of some of the ways in which the Library and Librarian can support your teaching and learning. Resources: the highlights The Library has a variety of resources available to support teaching and learning across the Academy. Listed below are some of the key things available. If you can’t see something you think we should have then please let me know. Books (fiction and non-fiction) The Library is here to encourage reading for pleasure and to support emotional and social development. A broad range of fiction is available for pupils of all reading abilities. There is a large collection of non-fiction to support the curriculum, including revision guides, textbooks, encyclopaedias and lots more. Audio Books and Listening Books The Library has a range of audio books on CD. If you would prefer to listen to a book, rather than reading it, come and take a look. The Library has also subscribed to an online audio-book service, called Listening Books (http://www.listening-books.org.uk), which provides audio-books streaming service. Newspapers and magazines We have a range of magazines and newspapers available in the Library. There are national daily newspapers (The Mirror and The Guardian) and a weekly newspaper called First News. Also available is a copy of the local newspaper. This is a collection of articles on current, topical, social issues which cover a range of opinions, comments and opposing viewpoints on the topics.
