Danu, the portrayer Since 1970-71, when he was an artist-apprentice at the Sibiu Art High School, Danu was fascinated by the human face and tried to capture itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s visual essence. There were the 4 most happy years of his life, when he WAS an artist, drawing and painting and reading and looking at the great masters reproductions all day long... But then, life (the mundane, hard life) took over and after finishing his History and English Bachelor degree he was a teacher, a husband and a father. For a long, long (too long!) time, he draw just occasionally, here and there, since he had a family to sustain. After 1998-99, when a fresh immigrant with the family in Quebec, Canada, he could find work and started to paint and to draw again. First, to pass the time and maybe to earn a few $. Then, with a vengeance, the passion for drawing and painting took him over. In order to pursue a professional career in the arts, he finished by 2002-2003 a Visual arts Certificate at the Sherbrooke University (and some studies at the Bishopâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s University). He did draw and paint ever since, hundreds and thousands of drawings and paintings, a lot of them portraits. An American friend and art historian told him he has a lot of Alice Neal (an artist he never heard of before). Maybe itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s true, in a more joyful, less morbid and depressing way... with some innocence and genuine plastic means he did a lot of portraits, in watercolor and acrylic ink.
