Author’s Note:It’s just the beginning, Charm’s POV

“Yo, Charm.” a voice says from far away. I moan in my sleep and turn away from it.

“Charm get up, we’ll be late for school.” the voice says. “Jus’ lemme sleep some more…” I say groggily. “If you don’t get up now, I’ll get in bed with you.” And with that I was up and out of my bed. “I hate when you do that Carmen.” I say as I stretch.

Carmen. A girl who’s exactly my age and the only one I know to flirt with me. We’ve known each other since my family moved here three years ago. That’s because she lives right across the hall from me. She’s my best friend and worst friend but I stick with her just like she sticks with me. But don’t get me wrong, she can be a bitch at times.

My family‌ Currently it only consists on my sister, me and our guardian, Ella.

Mom and Dad? Well they left for Spain. To be big movie directors… well my dad wants to be one my mother, an actress. Beautiful I say. But couldn’t they have taken us? Well, Jackie, my little sister, didn’t really want to go and she really really really, I mean REALLY wanted me to stay with her. So what did our parents do? Call up a guardian and pay them about $900 a month to take care of us. I’m not complaining, I mean Ella is a nice girl but Jackie on the other hand, She can’t wait for them to get back. They call almost constantly and never give us an answer about that so I say to hell with it.

“Oh come on, you would like it. Besides, you’ve never had a date before.” she says. That’s because they think we’re dating. I thought to myself. I went over to my dresser to get some clothes on and realized Carmen was still here. “Will you get out?” I asked her. “Fine, Mr. Fussy Butt. I’ll be downstairs with your sister.” she says and leaves. I honestly don’t understand Carmen. She knows I don”t like her as a girlfriend yet she still wants me to be her night in shining armor. Women… they’re so weird. While Carmen was out I got ready for the day ahead. Then went down to join those two.

“So who’s the kid yer staring at?” Carmen asks Jackie. “I don’t know some new kid I guess… he must live in our building. I saw him come out.” Jackie says. “Weird.” Carmen mutters. When I came out all talking ceased, weird… We began walking.

“What took you so long Charm?” Carmen asked me. “Nothing, I can’t get ready and look nice?” I snap at her. “Well sure you can, I was just joking… sheesh.” she says. “Sorry, you guys know how I am in the morning.” I say and fall back from them. “I think he’s suffering from sexual deprivation.” Jackie says. “I won’t even ask how you know about that Jacks.” Carmen says. Carmen eventually fell back to where I was and kept asking me questions. When was I going to get a girlfriend, when were my parents coming back, who was I going to prom with, etc. Stuff that doesn’t apply to me or that I care about. I was more focused on getting a band together and being in the third week of my last year of high school wasn’t going so well. I didn’t have any friends. Sorta odd considering I’ve lived here for three years. Hell even

Carmen doesn’t have any other friends besides me and she’s been living here longer than I have. I let out a sigh that Carmen’s attention. “What’s wrong Charm? You can tell me anything.” she says. “Have you noticed you don’t have any other friends besides me?” I blurted out. I really didn’t want to tell her about what was on my mind but it was too late. “What are you talking about? I have other friends, they just live on the other side of the bridge. It’s too far to just walk over to their house and chill or hangout so we mostly call each other.” she says staring at me. “Oh.” I say feeling like a complete jackass. Of course Carmen would have other friends besides me, she’s a girl. “Hey, don’t worry Charm, you’re still my best friend.” she says a walks up. “Maybe you should talk to people.” Jackie says quietly. “How would you know? You’re only 14.” I say. “Talking proves you aren’t an antisocial freak of nature.” She says and walks faster. “I am not a freak of nature!” I yell. They ignored me and kept walking. Well maybe I’m a little nervous when it comes to meeting new people. Not my fault. We got to River Hills 15 minutes later and when we got there we saw this kid just staring at the school. He looked odd and I realized I never saw him before. “He must be new around here.” I say. “Then he’s gonna be our friend.”

And before I could stop her she was over ther talking to him. We had about an hour before school actually started so I sat on a bench and waited for Carmen. She came over to me with 20 minutes to spare. And she brought the new kid.

“Charm, this is Aaron. He’s new in town and can you believe he lives in the same apartment building as we do?” She introduces him. “No… I can’t.” I say staring at Aaron. “It’s charming to meet you Charm.” He says and I instantly hated him. With a forced smile on my face I stand up and say, “It’s nice to meet you too… Carmen, I’m going to class, see you there.” and leave. “I should’ve warned you not to make jokes out of his name. He hates that.” she say’s to Aaron. “Eh, not to worry. I’m sure we”l be the best of friends.” he says with a smirk on his face. And then… school happened.
