RTI provides seamless integration with door entry systems, the KX3 (available 2016) and KX7 in wall keypads provide beautifully finished flush mount keypads with dedicated camera, microphone and speaker to integrate with IP based door entry systems. In a room where a handheld remote is preferred like the cinema use a T3x, probably the most advanced handheld remote control available today, it too boasts built in video intercom capability allowing you to interact with and control your entry points with ease. RTI intercom also supports room to room calling on all compatible handheld and in wall controllers. Increasingly intercom systems are a must have for residential installations allowing callers at the door to be screened both for security and convenience. When the doorbell is pushed the house music is muted and a chime sounds, then you can then answer the call from your nearest RTI interface. Once you have verified the caller through the audio and video interface you can choose to press a button to unlock the door, RTI will then return to playing your favourite music.

The days of old mains wiring are gone, new light sources such as LED bring a plethora of lighting options and the need to control multiple circuits per room simply and energy efficiently. RTI integrates completely with your choice of intelligent lighting system allowing you to choose the best lighting solution that suits your needs and budget. By building in custom lighting control pages in to the RTI GUI you can easily move from an AV control page to a lighting control page without having to run another app. The control of multiple lighting circuits incorporating a mix of light fittings is simplified by the customisable RTI interface. In addition tactile hard buttons on RTI remote controls can be configured to turn lights on, off or dim them. Touch panel control of dimmers, relays and blinds not only provide the user with ‘armchair’ control of their lighting, but also allows RTI to initiate lighting moods, for example, “Watch a Movie” command can dim the lights as well as switching on the home cinema system, with just a single button press. RTI has comprehensive integration with KNX systems which are becoming increasingly popular due to their open architecture. from pool to cool Installation Challenge Convert a seldom-used indoor swimming pool room into a dedicated theatre where the homeowner could relax and entertain friends. For the project, the client had two important requirements: that the space provide a stunning visual and acoustic experience, and that the sophisticated AV system be simple for the homeowner and guests to operate.

Solution To meet the requirement, every detail of the space is designed to produce a truly cinematic experience. From sound proofing, to carpet selection, to acoustic panels, all of the elements were hand picked to optimise the environment. Building on these elements, are the 7.1 surround sound, stunning LED lighting and comfy motorised leather seating. The second requirement was simplicity. Using RTI’s programming software, FAB were able to easily customise the control interface and utilise macro commands to create unique functionality. For example, when a source is selected by the client, the projector and amplifier switch on. When “Play Movie” is pressed, the lights automatically dim. When “stop” or “Pause” are pressed, a low-level lighting scene is selected to maintain the cinematic ambiance.

The Union Street Café in London, the latest restaurant from celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, opened it’s doors in October 2013. A key feature of the Union Street Café is its Media Room, a private, intimate dining room for business meetings and private lunches, which is decorated with work from local artists and outfitted with state-of-the-art AV technology installed by London-based integrator Tateside Ltd. In addition to Wi-Fi® as well as HDMI® and VGA laptop connections, the Media Room is equipped with a 60-inch Panasonic display, Onkyo TX-NR1010 AV receiver, Artcoustic surround sound system with hidden in-wall subwoofer, c-burn music server, Mode Lighting system, Apple® TV, and Blu-Ray™ player. With all of this high-end equipment in place, one of the most important aspects of the room became system control. For that task, Tateside chose RTI. The Media Room control system is powered by RTI’s XP-6 control processor, which offers a variety of control options to meet the Union Street Café’s needs, including IP control for the Onkyo AV receiver; IR for the display, Blu-Ray player, and Apple TV; and built-in RS-232 for the Mode Lighting system. The XP-6 utilises a two-way driver for seamless integration with the Onkyo receiver, providing users with instant feedback from the unit on the room’s control interfaces. When the system is powered down, the XP-6 automatically resets the Onkyo receiver to a specified volume so that it won’t be too loud or quiet when the next user turns it on.

the home cinema

A home cinema is one of the most enjoyable upgrades a home owner can make but even a modest home cinema room will be frustrating to use without proper control. The XP3 processor can control everything in the cinema whether it’s with IR control or over the IP network. The first improvement is eliminating several AV remotes, and replacing them with a single RTI handheld remote with tactile push buttons. The remote is labelled with each source, when pressed not only does it initiate a series of commands to turn everything on in the correct sequence, it then becomes the remote for the source. iPad control can also be used, to overcome its lack of hard buttons RTI have come up with a unique low cost companion remote to work alongside the iPad with a full complement of tactile hard buttons, ideal for AV control. All the command and control of the cinema equipment and other equipment such as lighting and climate control is handled by the XP3 processor making it a pleasure to control the cinema with RTI. As part of a whole house install the XP3 processor can act as a slave controller to the main house system ensuring the cinema can operate both standalone and integrate with the whole house RTI control system.

The XP-3 processor packs a big punch and easy expansion capabilities. With a built-in RF transceiver and support for wireless bi-directional communications utilising robust ZigBee® technology, the XP-3 can provide the user with real-time feedback from supported thirdparty devices such as music servers, lighting, security, and much more. Now, important data from these devices is available to the user with a simple touch - from current song information to the status of a security system - even the weather forecast! The XP-3 is loaded with features normally reserved for higher-priced processors, such as a built-in astronomical clock and control via Ethernet, RS-232, and relays. It is the ultimate choice for powerful bi-directional control and automation at a moderate price!

This unit adds four individually addressable relays to an XP processor. It’s an IP device so can expand the relay outputs in the rack or anywhere remotely on the network.
