PAST MASTER BRIAN ORSER (CAN): BORN 1961 Olympic Winter Games Men’s Silver Medal 1984, 1988 ISU World Figure Skating Championships Men’s Gold 1987 Men’s Silver 1984, 1985, 1986, 1988 Men’s Bronze 1983 Brian Orser first discovered success as a Figure Skater at the age of 16 when he became the Canadian novice champion. Orser went on to earn many medals and titles during his skating career including two time Olympic silver medalist, eight time Canadian Champion, 1987 World Champion and was the first man to land a triple axel at an Olympic Winter Games. In 2006, after a long career as a competitive skater, Orser turned his attention to coaching. Since 2009 he coaches at the Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club where he trained some of the best achieving skaters including 2010 Olympic Winter Games Gold medalist Yuna Kim (KOR), Javier Fernández (ESP) 2013 and 2014 European Champion, 2014 Olympic and World Champion Yuzuru Hanyu (JPN) and Nam Nguyen (CAN) 2014 World Junior Champion. In 1985 he was made a Member of the Order of Canada and was promoted to Officer in 1988. In 1990 he won an Emmy Award for his performance in Carmen on Ice. He was inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame in 1989, the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 1995 and the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 2009.
