It used to be that the start of June signaled the start of the summer slow down, but with the slew of new venues that have opened this year, and promoters willing to bet the hot, humid weather holds off after a long winter, the last few weeks before Ramadan are jam-packed. In this issue we have the lowdown on Jamie Jones, The Weekend, Showtek and Osunlade who all drop beats on Friday June 6, as well as previews of DJ Marky, Something Big and Ministry of Sound’s return to the region. And we have all the usual news, reviews, features, party pics, Angry Monkey rants and more in our penultimate issue of the season. Andy

What we did

Dixon @ Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE We’ve been fortunate enough to hit Blue Marlin several times recently, both for the 2nd Birthday and for Dixon, the German tastemaker who’s been on our radar since his Sonar Kollektiv days and his epic 2007 RA mix. The daytime vibe down there really is amazing and fully justifies the Ibiza tag at the end of their name. And add Dixon’s selection of house laced with emotion, intelligence – and a cracking shirt choice – into the mix, and you’ve got an amazing day and night out. It might be just as much about peacocking as it is about the music, but when it’s done this well, you can’t help but love every minute. –GarethIsOnIt

Warehouse Dubai feat. Jaguar Skills & EZ @ Level 41

The crowd was pumped as more than 1500 clubbers turned up to Level 41 to witness DJ EZ and Jaguar Skills throw down a master class of mixing on the 1s & 2s. By 11pm there was queue to get in longer than a SZR tailback at rush hour, but the door battle was worth it. EZ threw down a mix of old and new skool Garage, masterfully mixing over 60 tracks in 90 minutes including classics such as Double 99’s ‘RIP Groove.’ Next up was Jaguar Skills whose cross genre mash up style had a beat for every music fan to get down to, mixing Hip hop into Reggae, Drum and Bass, House, Techno, Rock and more. BBC Radio One’s masked crusader had over 1,000 people still packed into the venue at 3am, making this one of the most ‘up for it crowds’ we’d seen in the region for a long time.

Say What? Say What? Say What? Unhappy

A group of Iranian fans that created a tribute to Pharrell Williams’ hit song ‘Happy’ were recently arrested (and not just for joining the rather lame Happy bandwagon). The copycat video, featuring 3 men and 3 unveiled women, showed them dancing on the streets and rooftops of Tehran, but Police chief Hossein Sajedinia called it a “vulgar clip” that had “hurt public chastity”, the ISNA news agency said.

Looking Forward More magic from The Illusionists

It was one of our favourite shows from last year, as 8 magicians, conjurers and general tricksters teamed up for a memorable show. And the concept is back, and with a new set of stars, including The Decepionist, The Manipulator, The Futurist and The Weapons Master (fun!). Tickets priced Dhs199 are on sale now, and the show begins this coming September at the World Trade Centre.

My Favorite Robot @ Story Rooftop

More electronic goodness from the Machu Warriors night as they’ve invited down Canadian outfit, My Favorite Robot to play their June 5 date at Story Rooftop. A dance music collective, their record label puts out cutting edge tech house goodies on a regular basis from the likes of Art Department, Daniel Avery and Subb-An, while they have a hectic summer DJ schedule.

Dash Berlin hits Abu Dhabi O1NE Yas Island is flying the flag for trance on June 12 as they’re bringing down Dutch DJ and producer Dash Berlin. A one time drummer and then record store worker, he discovered electronic music and trance in a big way, and is one of the coming stars of the genre, being placed 10th in the DJ Magazine poll for 2013, while his track ‘Better Off Alone’ is often credited as one of the first big tracks of the new EDM wave.

Looking Forward

The best job in the UAE?

Fancy being part of the summer exodus, but don't have the funds? Well, help is at hands thanks to Societe Dubai as they're looking for 2 club ambassadors who'll be sent on an all expenses paid trip to 6 of the world's hottest destinations, including Thailand, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Turkey. All you need to do is log onto bestjobinuae.com and plan your best selfie (step 1 of the application process). Bon chance! Big ups to DJ Bliss who’s signed up with renowned US booking agency, SKAM artists. Bass night Something Big have been given their own boat party at this year’s Outlook festival, ahoy! Planning summer fun times should we hit Croatia or Ibiza? Ah f*** it, we'll do both. The World Cup is just around the corner, the perfect excuse to stay up late, drink beer and say things like 'Belgium could be dark horses this year' and actually sound intelligent. JT, take a bow son, that was something else, the live bar has been raised again in Abu Dhabi.

Ah winter, we had fun, didn't we, we were good, you and I. See you in 3, but more likely 4 months. XOXO Paying for said Ibiza/ Croatia summer fun times – anyone got a spare kidney we can flog? Sad news people Nthayi, our favourite person in the office called Nthayi (haha, jokes, we love you) is leaving for pastures new after 5 years with us. Don't forget us once you've made your millions!

and Substance Already a firm favourite after less than 6 months, GQ Bar is not only a classy watering hole, but has an excellent restaurant and shisha terrace, and thanks to their newly launched Music Fridays, an excellent roster of local DJs on rotation…

There’s not a lot we don’t know about magazines and nightlife after almost a decade in both. So when we first heard about the launch of GQ Bar, a franchised bar, lounge and restaurant with homes in Moscow and Istanbul, we knew instantly what to expect. *

A quick word with Music Friday resident Sam Farsio… What's the concept behind the night? Good music, good looking people, great food and a positive vibe! What attracted you to a residency at GQ? I am able to play the music I like! What's your style of music… I play from electonica, to deep and tech house... And if your music was a fashion brand, what would it be? I prefer not to brand the music I play or produce but "GQ Bar" brand suits my music nicely…

Like the long-running UK and global magazine Gentleman’s Quarterly, GQ Bar is sleek, it’s sophisticated and it’s high end but not snobby and pretentious. Decades of sleek magazine design and content have been distilled into a 2 level, 10,700 square foot venue that include an elegant bar and lounge area and a restaurant serving lunch and dinner with a menu curated by Director of Condé Nast International Restaurants, Gary Robinson and GQ Bar head chef Bruno Carvalho. Plus, there's an outdoor shisha terrace wich has been covered for the summer meaning you can still get you Double Apple hit. The restaurant menu is extensive, with their sushi selection, Lamb shank, Angus fillet and Chocolate Fondant the stand out dishes – we’ve got a full 4 page review in our next issue’s Eat Sleep Rave Repeat, and trust us, it’s good, very good.

Not to be outdone, the cocktail menu is a work of art, including the Sun Tzu (Tanqueray, honey-plum liqueur, lemon juice, palm sugar/ ginger/lemongrass) which goes excellently with their sushi, and their Barrel Aged Cocktails which have been left to soak for at least a month. In short, GQ Bar is your one stop shop for eating, drinking and good music, which are the essentials when it comes to a good night out. Like we said, style and substance. *By the way, if Infusion was a club or bar, we’d be iBO, good times‌

The funkiest of the Drum and Bass bunch, Brazil’s DJ Marky is a long-time favourite in Dubai. Ahead of his return for Globalfunk's 11th Birthday at new home, Level 41, we take a little trip down memory lane Offices. Boring aren’t they. Stuffy, oppressive, full of suits, tough decisions and stale coffee. Not so the Infusion Office last May. Not only was it time for our Weekend Warm Up, our 2 hour online DJ session, it was time for DJ Marky to step up to our office decks. Not wanting to boast (we totes are), but that was a very cool moment. DJ Marky, of ‘LK’ fame, and Fabric and The End residencies, dropping tunes. In our office. And predictably he tore the office a new one, dropping a kaleidoscopic range of Drum and Bass with enough energy to power our building for the next decade. So imagine what he did later that night at the Music Room as he headlined Globalfunk’s 10th birthday party. Vibes, ladies and gents, serious deep rolling vibes. So, naturally he’s been invited back, this time for Globalfunk’s 11th birthday, and hopefully some more upside down scratching action (for real, yo).

Marky need to know

Having got into Drum and Bass and Jungle at the birth of the scene, his big breakthrough came when Bryan G heard one of Marky’s tracks at a Movement gig in Brazil. That track? ‘LK’, obvs. He was then awarded the Best DJ in Brazil in 1995, and in 2001 was given his own MTV Brazil show. He’s had nearly 100 releases – including the much loved ‘The Brazilian Job’ – and has remixed for Fatboy Slim, Deadmau5, Claude Von Stroke and loads more.

Globalfunk feat. Marky, Thursday June 12, Level 41, Media One Hotel, 9pm-3am, Dhs100.

L Club Opens every Tuesday and Thursday Tuesday is « Fairies Night» a new style of Ladies Night, with the best retro English, French, Spanish Hits, performed by Nadine Chammas. Thursday is «Celebrities Night», The club is known to be the place where many celebrities enjoy clubbing and celebrating with the audience, with Micho Performing the best Arabic hits.

SoulfulSessions

One of the world’s leading soulful house DJs, Osunlade returns to the city for House of Afrika. We caught up with him to talk Sesame Street, the death of EDM and religion…

Welcome back to Dubai, good to have you back. I
s it true that when you were younger, one of your first jobs was working on musical pieces for Sesame Street? Yes, this is true but it’s such a replayed and old story, nothing of interest really, I was in the right place at the right time. What does Osunlade mean, where does the name come from? It means Oshun has the glory, it derives from Nigeria and is a traditional Yoruba name. You’re a very spiritual person, what could Dubai learn from being more spiritual and open? I can’t quite say as I know nothing of the spiritual or religious culture outside of the fact that it’s mainly a Muslim country. I guess the difference for me is that spiritual is a singular connection, there are no aggregators between you and whatever source of energy you pay reverence toward. Religion is generally based upon fear and control, not applicable in my understanding of balance and or evolution.

House of Afrika feat. Osunlade, Dek on 8, Friday June 6, 4pm-3am, free entry.

What’s your definition of soulful house, how would you categorise what you play? Soulful house is just that, house music derived from soul. In other words, this is music created and founded on the relationship of black music in general. I have only two categories for music, good and bad. I’d like to think I play the former. I think labels and boxes are for those who have no interest of self awareness so I prefer not to categorize anything usually. With the rise of EDM and pop, how much soul is there in commercial music now? I’ve heard none at all, it’s all bulls*** to me, just a bunch of less talented people pretending to be something they’re not, getting paid enormous amounts of money for it and destroying anything good that’s come from years of beautiful dance music. It’s funny how the average person buys into something as simple as a new acronym, it’s simply not my thing and honestly I don’t think much of that sound, its creators, the scene and everything else associated with it. I long for the day when it all goes to s***, I mean this is not music. Simple as that. It can’t and won’t last.

Behind the scenes:

Ministry of Sound After a long hiatus, Ministry of Sound are back and throwing a 5 DJ party at Boutiq on Thursday June 5, with headliner BBC Radio 1 host Danny Howard. Before then, we go back into the club’s history to see how it evolved, and indeed, helped shape dance music as we know it‌

Inspired by New York’s Paradise Garage, MoS founder Justin Berkmann wanted to bring that taste of emerging American house to the UK. His concept was simple: ‘100% sound system first, lights second, design third; the reverse of everyone else’s idea.” Along with his partners, they discovered a disused bus garage in the then run down area of Elephant & Castle in London, and the club opened on September 21, 1991. With a remit to bring American house music to the UK, the opening set of DJs included Larry Levan, David Morales, Roger Sanchez and Tony Humprhies, dons of the US house music scene. For many people in the UK, it was the first time they’d been exposed to house music. The club’s renowned sound system lives on, and has been voted the ‘World’s Best Sound System’ for 4 years in a row by the prestigious International Dance Music Awards. Over the last 23 years, the brand has grown into an empire. They have a record label division (their first signing was Example), franchise clubs throughout the world, a radio station (and at one point, a Ministry of Sound magazine) and have sold more than 55 million compilations world wide. Plus, they own Hed Kandi, one of the most recognizable dance music brands in the world. And between them, they host around 1500 events across the world, including the up-coming party at Boutiq. Ministry of Sound feat. Danny Howard, Mark Pickup, Sheldon, Jon Besant and Lee Drinky, Thursday June 5, Boutiq, The Address Dubai Mall, 10pm-3am

To some, the VIP section is a mythical area, filled with models and bottles, and to others it’s an essential weekly ritual. But new company InVip.ae aim to take the hassle and mystery out of table bookings at some of the city’s best clubs with their tried-and-tested concept… InVip has been developed by three long time sand-dwellers who spotted a gap in the growing UAE nightlife market and is the only exclusive online VIP reservation service in the country, providing unfettered access to the newest and coolest parties in town. The concept is currently at work in Vegas and Miami, where tourists who don’t know where to go can take advantage of the all inclusive online service. There’s a cunning group booking function, which organizes your night out, and splits the bill automatically before partying, getting rid of those ‘who had what’ and ‘Stuey has already left the club without paying’ scenarios. And they cater for most of the clubs in town, including the much anticipated Pacha launch. Your table awaits... invip.ae

Flying the flag for 140BPM beats, Something Big bring their Dubai season to a close with Deep Medi/Chestplate producer and DJ, Tunnidge. We caught up with the highly regarded dubstep don to find out what’s in store… Dubstep was huge for a few years, and has become a little less trendy in certain circles – has that helped streamline the scene? Like all genres, dubstep has experienced peaks and troughs, although dubstep’s history is rather a different one to other scenes. Being around from the early days of dubstep’s development, I watched the media and elements of the music industry exploit a certain extreme sound that came under the spectrum of the dubstep genre. To me that commercial sound that we are all familiar with and that now most people associate with the name dubstep was only a small fraction of what the genre had to offer. I really think the listeners of "underground dubstep" have steadily increased over the years if anything.

What does dubstep mean to you? And what should it sound like? Dubstep means big sounds systems, big bass and dark clubs. I always think that is the best way to experience the music. I like the sensory deprivation that the loud music and dark rooms bring when used in conjunction. It allows people to focus on the music and experience the physicality of the bass. To me it’s a sound that’s rooted very much in south London, although I’m glad that it seems to resonate with people all over the globe. Facebook/Twitter and Soundcloud have become big tools to a DJ – has the scene lost its balance though, is it hard for Djs and producers like yourself to cut through it all? And what about people who buy

Facebook followers? I know of people that buy social media followers and Likes and I really think it’s down to the individual to decide what’s right for them. For me it is something I would never do, I would feel like a fraud and it surprises me that so many people are willing to do so. Promoters who book people based on their social media stats also have a case to answer here, because I suppose artists feel that if they have loads of followers they will get bookings. I just find the whole thing rather pathetic; it should be about the music first and foremost. What's the American reaction been to your music, they're surfing the dance music wave at the moment? I’ve had quite a few tours in the states and always get a great reaction, it’s great to see so many doors opening and opportunities arising to artists not just in the dubstep genre but also in all dance music. America has strong roots in dance music with Chicago house and Detroit techno but not until now has the idea of dance music been really embraced by the country. I’m looking forward to seeing the new splinter scenes and genres that will no doubt come out of this new enthusiasm for dance music.

Who was your musical inspiration when you were first getting into the scene? And who do you look to now? Dillinja, Krust, Vex'd, Distance and early Skream. I know Dillinja and Krust are drum and bass producers but I really enjoyed their bass line sounds and riffs and took a lot of inspiration form their productions. I am probably best known for my big bass riffs but I do enjoy writing more subtle atmospheric beat too. I always try to balance my releases with a big heavy bass tune and a more experimental and darker beat. Something Big feat. Tunnidge, Thursday June 5, Catwalk, 10pm-3am, Dhs100 after 11pm, Dhs50 before.

House of Afrika’s last international act of the season is none other than Jullian Gomes, a 25 year old Pretoria DJ and producer who’s been making big waves in the dance music scene in the last 5 years He’s released on top South African record labels including Soulcandi and remixed for big names like Black Coffee, but it’s his work on the Atjazz label, and his collaborations with Atjazz main man Martin Iveson that have seen him widely acclaimed. His 2013 album with Atjazz, The Gift The Curse, featured dance music stars like Osunlade and Robert Owens, and included 10 tracks of deep, soulful house, with some, like ‘White Rose’ and ‘Overshadowed’ displaying a darker, edgier side. And he’ll bring his trademark Atjazz sound to Dubai for his debut on Friday June 13 for the last big House of Afrika before the summer hits. House of Afrika feat. Jullian Gomes, Dek on 8, Friday June 13, 4pm-3am, free entry.

Music News... Spotify the difference

It’s long been a source of contention for musicians, as on average Spotify pay out $0.005 each time an artist’s song is streamed by its millions of users. But Vulfpeck, an enterprising Michigan band, took a different approach to the website’s policy, and asked their fans to stream their entirely silent album Sleepify at night when they were sleeping. Each track lasted 30 seconds (the minimum to count as a proper play), and it made the band $20,000, enough to fund their next tour.

MUSIC BITES “At these festivals, you get it all on a platter up-front. Lasers! LED screens! Pyrotechnics! DROPS! CAKE IN YOUR F****** FACE!” – wait, nah man. That’s not clubbing, that’s a concert of c****. Just, go out for a night in a dark room. Be cool. ” Seth Troxler tells it like it is.

Rumours in Ibiza

After a successful first term as a promoter at Pacha, Guy Gerber has spread his wings and taken a new residency at Plan Be, with his label Rumours. The open air parties will be held every Tuesday, but in a new twist for the island, there will be no line ups, no set times, only a set of rumours before hand.

Album Reviews... The Black Keys – Turn Blue Indie/Rock

I

theblackkeys.com



After a slow and steady ascent, the Black Keys – American duo Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney – hit the big time with their 7th album, El Camino. A heady pop rush of rock and blues, it elevated the pair to festival headliner status. Then came a messy divorce for Auerbach, and out of that heartache comes their latest album, Turn Blue. It’s a more psychedelic, downtempo affair, and according to Carney, one that’s meant to be a headphone album, an album that sticks and lingers. And sprawling opener ‘Weight of Love’ does just that, as Hendrix-like licks and squalling guitar riffs battle it out for ascendancy. The album’s littered with divorce references: track titles like ’10 Lovers’ and ‘Gotta Get Away’ don’t leave much to the imagination, nor do lyrics like ‘Why you always wanna love the ones who hurt you?” Turn Blue might be the sound of the band wallowing in misery, but they still know how to raise a rock racket when they need to, as the MGMT-lite bounce of ‘Fever’ and the bustling ‘Year In Review’ prove. Down, but very much not out.

Paul Oakenfold – Trance mission Trance I

pauloakenfold.com



Go back to the start, and you’ll find Paul Oakenfold, one of the key trance players. He was there in Ibiza with Danny Rampling and the rest, and he was there in Goa, when he brought the trance sound to the masses. Alongside grass roots producers and Djs like Van Buuren and Van Dyk, he’s been at the forefront of the emotional, euphoric genre. So it’s with an open mind that we (Infusion and the Trance Family UAE) listened to his new album, promisingly titled Trance Mission. He’s approached his 12 track album in a unique way, covering some of his favourite songs and giving them a trance rework. ‘Café Del Mar’ and ‘Adagio For Strings’ are the obvious classics that have been given the Oakenfold makeover, while album closer ‘Touch Me’ is a spine-tingling, hands in the air vocal workout that will be a last-track-of-the-night for many trance Djs. And by staying true to trance’s roots, and eschewing any easy and cheesy EDM drops, he’s brought his musical history to life, and updated it for the current generation. – Sam Moult, Trance Family UAE



We’re not sure who or what soulful house man Osunlade is atoning for, but we’re glad he feels the need to make amends. The third installment of his Offering mix CD series for R2 Records is another 70 minute slice of hand-crafted, lovingly compiled musical magic. Digging deep – he’s reputed to spend 5 hours a day finding tracks – he’s found deep and emotive gems that might have been missed, few resounding more than ‘Atlanta’ from Ananda Project and Jimpster’s simple but very effective ‘Towards The Seer.’ But it’s the inclusion of Roman Flugel’s mournful jazz odyssey, ‘Song With Blue,’ that grabs your attention, the perfect mid set lull before finishing with Estroe’s ‘Late Night Thinking,’ released back in 2009. Apologies don’t come much better than this house and techno mix, laced with real soul and emotion.

Sennheiser

HD8

Improving on the industry standard is hard, but in creating the HD8, the high end follow up to Sennheiser’s ever-green HD25s, they’ve taken up the challenge. And the changes are many, and largely for the better. Gone is the on-ear fit, with a circum-aural cup (a posh way of saying that the new cans fit snugly around the ear), making them noise cancelling. They’ve also upped – and lowered – the audio range, meaning these bad boys can take in everything from 8Hz to 30kHz, one of the widest parameters on the market. Alongside this, they’ve also upped the sound pressure levels to 115dB at 1kHz, making them perfect for loud club environments, while the Kevlar lined cable and screw in attachment means they’re unlikely to fail at the crucial time. There’s also a new folding cup system: you can set the headphone position to your liking, or keep both cans firmly on if you’re ignoring requesters. Equally however, we ran the design past a few other DJs and they preferred the HD25’s lay out, with less moving parts and the simpler, cleaner fit on the head, so do try before you buy. So, a bigger audio range with a bigger output, a more flexible and modern design tailored to DJs, but with Sennheiser’s same build quality levels and attention to detail. What’s not to love? Sennheiser HD8s available soon…

DJ Booth: Rishi

With regular gigs at Electric Days and GQ ,not to mention his own party Cassland, Londoner Rishi is a DJ to be reckoned with. Just don’t come between him and his Bait Al Mandi though‌

One thing you might not know about me is... Although I have looooads of tattoos, I nearly cry each time I get one and I hate needles! My worst ever job was… Being an extra in the new Star Wars movie (well that’s a massive lie, it was unbelievable!) My favorite ever record is... Antonio – Hyperfunk (Locked On Records), UK Garage. DJing is much like... Nothing else. Everything else is rubbish, DJing is the best. And if you disagree, then you smell! Dubai’s clubbing scene is... Very decent man. We have very talented DJs playing all genres of music, from House, to DnB to Hip Hop. You cannot diss the scene here at all. I’m really proud of... Georgie and Deyan, the owners of a label called Delooped Records. They’re very good friends of mine and the music being produced and released from these guys is just ridiculous. What track could you drop in every set? Loud Sandra – SLG, Catz ‘n Dogz, Watergate X Records! I can’t live without... Bait Al Mandi in Al Barsha. They do the absolute best grilled chicken and rice ever! And it’s cheap too, 25 dizzers for a huge plate of rice and half a chicken. (I have no shares in this place btw, its just their food is amazing!) My biggest DJ achievement to date is... Warming up for Priku (a:rpia:r) at my party Cassland at Story Rooftop. He is someone whose music I have loved for a long time. What is your guiltiest pleasure? Carrefour Mixed fruit-cake. I always get the big one and will finish it all watching just one movie or episode or a TV series. If you could DJ in any decade which would it be... Well I’m going to answer the question with a question. Could I take my current tracks with me? If so, then 90s fo’ sho’! If I could go back-to-back with any other DJ it would be... Marco Carola back-to-back with Locodice back-to-back with Ricardo Villalobos back-to-back with RPR back-to-back with Dubfire. I’m not a politician but… I would make the above possible! Mandatory! And in Timewarp, every year. soundcloud.com/rish-dhealley

Looking Closer

Weird News... Breast behavior

A group of cheerleaders are suing NFL team Buffalo Bills after claiming they had to perform ‘jiggle tests’ as part of their audition. According to the Daily Mirror, the five women have launched a lawsuit against the Bills which also alleges they had to wear bikinis at a charity golf event, jump into a dunk tank and get ‘auctioned’ off to winning bidders who then drove them around in a lap of honour. Nice to see America catching up on equality…

Sea Lion Dion

A man has had sound equipment worth Dhs18,000 confiscated by the council after a neighbour complained about him blaring Celine Dion’s power ballads. Gareth Davies, a former window salesman from Kent, claims he is being victimised simply for listening to guilty pleasures. Not only does My Heart Will Go On appear to be one of his favourites, but Boom Shack-A-Lak by Apache Indian and You’ve Got A Friend In Me, the theme song from Toy Story, are also believed to be at the top of the 47-year-old’s most played list. ‘It felt like it was a witch hunt,’ said Davies, who also had his iPod, speakers, 3D TV and PlayStation3 removed by Medway Council. You’re lucky the Angry Monkey didn’t hear you in action, Gareth, otherwise confiscated equipment would be the least of your troubles…

Cool

It’s a DJ battle royale this issue, as Machu Warriors and Plus Minus residents Haidz and Gabriel Floriani trade blows…

HAIDZ

GABRIEL

Who’s the coolest person in your phone book?

Everyone in there is cool (apart from names I save Of course my wife Naty (she not to answer, haha) but if I is next to me right now). had to choose one it would be my girlfriend. What’s the longest you’ve gone without sleep?

40 hours. Don’t ask. Around 36 hrs. Your new record/track is the coolest because…

It’s mine therefore I win this Every time I play it, I feel like automatically. Thanks. dancing. What’s your best claim to fame?

Winning second runner up I’m Facebook friend with at the last Pioneer Middle Madonna. East DJ competition. It’s not big and clever but…

I’m always on time to a point of obsession. Not clever On my last birthday I mixed because most people in this wine with vodka, please town are not even close to don’t try this at home. being on time so I end up waiting alone like a douche.

Haidz vs Gabriel Floriani What’s your answer to everything?

Thanks (hardly applies to anything and keeps Now? everyone confused… mission accomplished). What’s the best insult you could give each other?

Try using the sync button.

You can Photoshop or cut the photo if you need it.

The verdict: Both are proper softies (see their first answer for proof), but anyone who’s FB friends with Madonna is cool with us. Machu Warriors feat. My Favorite Robot, Thursday June 5, Story Rooftop, 9pm-3am

Reading between the lines

After years in living in Dubai, my bullsh*t detector has become a finely tuned instrument. So, without further ado, here’s a little help for reading between the lines in this sordid city we call home… What they say Random Facebook message: ‘Hey bro, how r u?’ What they actually mean Hello good sir. I know we have not had the chance to meet yet in person but as we’re Facebook friends and that’s clearly an unbreakable bond, I was hoping to avail to your good nature. Would you be so kind as to help me out with some gigs in your illustrious club? What they say Biography: Yeah, I’m a DJ/chef/model/writer/photographer/ w*nker… What they actually mean I’m not good enough to do one thing in life. I blow. What they say Event info: Surprises, guest appearances and give aways on the night! What they actually mean We’re desperate, like really, really desperate. The celebrity is the club owner, the give aways are Dhs60 beers and the surprise is you’re a sucker for believing it. Monkey Out...
