2011 Bethel Springs Jr. High Rebels
By Andrew Alexander Sports Writer
The Rebels of Bethel Springs finished the 2010-2011 campaign with an overall record of 5-11, but look to “do the unthinkable,” according to Head Coach Brian Franks and win the county championship for the first time in the school’s history. “We have our sites set on winning the county...” Franks said. “I think that we have a shot at beating everyone that beat us last year. We’re looking to take that 5-11 season and turn it around.” This year’s team returns three starters from last season, and a host of other athletes. “Dakorea Dilworth will start at point guard, Dylan Crabb will start at shooting guard. They both started last year, and Darwin Kelley will be our big man down low and he also started last year,” said Franks. “We look for big things out of Darrius Sanders, Tata Newsom, and Austin Pace who will also be big time contributors this season along with a couple other guys off the bench like Keenan Davis and Jeremy Harris.” Guards controlling the ball and distributing it down low for post players to pour in points along with scoring quickly in transition will be the areas of the game that Franks hopes the team can improve on to make this season successful. “Our focus this year is just controlling the ball better and getting it worked down to the big guys a little bit more than we did last year,” said Franks. “We’ve got really good guards and a lot of speed.” The Rebels quickness will allow them to run a dribble-drive offense and a stingy man-to-man defense to create turnovers and put points on the board in what they hope is a championship season in 2011-2012.
