here’s a lot on our plate this fall for the IHEA membership. Our thanks to John Searl, Donna Stelman and the program committee for their work to develop an excellent Fall Business Conference. This committee does an excellent job of organizing truly useful business programs. The annual meeting in Coral Gables was represented by 72% of the member companies. Every single survey from the annual meeting rated the overall value received as excellent. Wouldn’t it be great to get a 100% member turnout for the Fall Business Meeting? The day before the Fall Business meeting, we are having an IRED divisional meeting. This division is creating an Infrared Handbook for the purpose of introducing Infra Red Technology to prospective customers. On the same day, we are including an informational meeting for prospective members to discuss a newly proposed IHEA division, Electric Process Heater Division. Several electric heating element manufacturers are interested in the services our organization has to offer, and we will

be discussing the particulars at this meeting. We will invite them to stay with us for the Fall Business Conference and allow them to see first-hand the value of our committee meetings and conference. Featured on that same day (Tuesday, October 19) is the IHEA - DOE Industrial Heating Equipment of the Future Conference. IHEA Members, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Industrial Technologies Program members and end users from major energy user industries will get together to discuss opportunities and technologies that will substantially reduce energy consumption. This program leads to the development of the grand furnace challenge project. I look forward to seeing everybody at the Fall Business Conference. Please remember, the value you get from this Association comes with your participation in our programs.

HEA, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Industrial Technologies Program (DOE-ITP) is arranging the IHEA-DOE Industrial Heating Equipment of the Future Conference at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare on Tuesday, October 19.

This conference will address issues related to industrial process heating equipment including furnaces, ovens, heaters, etc. used to IHEA IS PLEASED supply heat to the materials during TO WELCOME OUR manufacturing operations. The conferNEWEST MEMBER ence’s primary objectives include: Selas Corp. of America • discussing previously identified opporwww.selas.com tunities for energy savings Selas offers heat treating equipment for non-ferrous • discussing the current status of indusmetals, glass, ceramics, trial heating technologies including aluminum batch annealing furnaces.

• analyzing and identify various revolutionary technology options (new generation equipment/system designs, retrofits, etc.) which will result in substantial decreases in energy intensity in various industrial processes, in the near, mid and long term. The conference attendees will include the end users from major energy user industries, suppliers of heating system and components, and representatives from the research and academic community working on advanced industrial heating systems. One or more representatives from each segment has been asked to make presentations on the status and issues related to energy efficiency improvements in process heating systems for their specific area. 35th Annual Combustion Seminar The 35th Annual Combustion Seminar and Exposition will be held October 18 & 19, 2004 at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare. Companies use this highly evaluated seminar as a key instruction program for employees responsible for the design, selection and maintenance of fuel-fired industrial furnaces and ovens. Tim Lee of Maxon Corporation and Chairman for this year’s Combustion Seminar, notes, “The 35th Annual IHEA Combustion Seminar promises to bring together industry leaders in various combustion fields. There does not exist a more diversified gathering of professional combustion experts to teach those interested in learning more about combustion systems. Anyone who maintains, designs, and engineers combustion systems should attend.” The two-day seminar provides the attendees an opportunity to learn all facets of the combustion system for industrial furnaces and ovens, and discuss problems of special interest in an environment of practical information sharing. The faculty is a select group of engineers involved in the design and manufacture of combustion equipment. It is designed for the person or persons responsible for the oper-
