Autobot high Command decides that the Decepticon leader should be tried for crimes against the species. Under intergalactic law, a guilty verdict would result in either execution or life imprisonment: it is for the prosecuting party to decide. Optimus prime refuses to make a decision without finding out why megatron surrendered, and so confronts him in his cell. the two arch enemies talk about how they first met. before the war, megatron was a political activist who worked in the energon mines and dreamed of peaceful revolution. but after being wrongfully arrested and beaten up in his cell, his sense of injustice and powerlessness made him realize that a more forceful approach was required. he was released by Optimus prime—then known as Orion pax—a newly-appointed police captain who was impressed by megatron's earnest political writings. back in the present day, megatron goads Optimus into torturing him, leaving Optimus shaken and ashamed—and no closer to finding out why megatron surrendered...
