keep researching. That’s how “Control” started. I got together with a group of people that made me reflect or motivated me, in the darkness of a set and talk, talk a lot. It’s a portrait series that attempts to research the types of pain, incomprehension, to feel left aside… Personally, I haven’t exclusively tried to find potent images, but also photographs where we can see ourselves reflected in another person’s face. To lose control and know ourselves in an unknown person’s face. ¿Qué prefieres la fotografía fija o en movimiento? // Do you prefer still photography or moving photograhy? Como trabajador/creador necesito vivir tanto de la imagen fija como en movimiento, algo de lo que me estoy dando cuenta últimamente. Y como espectador, el cine ha sido y es siempre mi fuente de inspiración y búsqueda. Producir imagen en movimiento ya sean videoclips, cortos, largometrajes... implica un trabajo en equipo, una convivencia y una confianza en los que te rodean en una lucha colectiva para sacar una idea adelante de la mejor manera posible. Un reto en el que adaptarte a las circunstancias. En este momento estoy trabajando en una película de bajo presupuesto pero de alto esfuerzo, “Losers” dirigida por Serapi Soler y Oriol Pérez. Rodamos los fines de semana en largas jornadas de trabajo, con los cuatro materiales que tenemos y algún otro que nos prestan, carencias que provocan un mayor esfuerzo en cuanto a como resolver situaciones complejas de iluminación, buscando combinaciones entre técnica y creatividad pasa salir adelante. El trabajo de imagen fija para mi es más individual, más solitario e implica el interactuar con una o varias personas en un espacio tranquilo en el que poder trabajar la fotografía, un estudio, un plató en el que abstraerme y buscar la imagen a la que quiero llegar. Me siento más atraído por el retrato y es el género que más me emociona como espectador y como fotógrafo. As a worker/creator I need to live as much off of still photography as moving photography, something I’m realizing lately. And as a film spectator, film has been and is always my fountain of inspiration and search. To produce moving pictures, whether it be a music video, a short film, a full length film… implies teamwork, living together and trusting those around you that make up part of that collective struggle to make an idea a reality in the best possible way. It’s a challenge that makes you adapt to circumstances. I’m currently working on a low-budget film that takes a lot of effort, called “Losers,” directed by Serapi Soler and Oriol Perez. We shoot during the weekend during long work days, with few pieces of our own and some borrowed material, with missing things that result in an even bigger effort in terms of how to solve complicated lighting situations, looking for technical and creative combinations to keep going. Creating still photography, for me, is more of an individual effort, more solitary and involves working with one or various people in a calm place, such as a studio, a set where I can find the image I want to achieve. I’m more attracted to portrait photography and it’s the genre that most excites me as a viewer and as a photographer. Gracias, participar en un proyecto como Art Deal Project es sin duda una alegría pero también una motivación y una responsabilidad para seguir. Sinceramente el panorama actual en cuanto a la creación me parece muy atractivo. Quizás podemos pecar de saturación de contenidos y es complicado ser selectivo con lo nuevo e interesante, pero poder tener acceso a lo que hacen personas de otras partes del mundo, intercambiar ideas, recursos técnicos, impresiones... me resulta imprescindible para mi día a día. Sinceramente, con la que está cayendo social y políticamente ver y participar en proyectos colectivos que generan movimiento, progreso, esfuerzo y creatividad me parece una gran demostración de lo que podemos ser capaces de luchar y construir a pesar de que el mundo se empeñe en el pesimismo y en demostrarnos lo contrario. Me preocupa la mercantilización implícita en la creación pero también veo necesario un tejido industrial y productivo en el mundo de la cultura… Thanks, to participate in a project such as Art Deal Project is, without a doubt, great but also a motivator and a responsibility to keep going. Honestly, I think the current scene in terms of creation is very attractive. Perhaps we saturate content and it’s complicated to be selective with what’s new and interesting, but to have access to what others are doing all over the world, to exchange ideas, technical resources, thoughts… I think it’s indispensable for my day-to-day. Honestly, with all that’s coming down socially and politically and to participate in collectives that generate movement, progress, effort and creativity says a lot about what how we’re able to fight and build, despite the fact that the world is set of being pessimistic and showing us the complete opposite. I’m worried about the implicit commercialization of creation, but I also think it’s necessary to have an industrial and productive side in the world of culture… ¿Cuáles son tus próximos proyectos? // What are your next projects? “Control” no está concluido y poco a poco añado algún rostro más. Ahora mismo estoy centrado en una serie de retratos algo más “documental” de chicos y chicas que acaban de cumplir 18 años y por tanto han pasado a ser adultos según la legalidad. De un día para otro sus responsabilidades cambian radicalmente. También estoy empezando otro proyecto de retratos de personas mayores, trabajando en película diapositiva, explorando como podría quedar la imagen, por ahora bocetos. También como comentaba estoy inmerso en una película llevando la fotografía y haciendo cortos y produciendo algunos videoclips. “Control” isn’t completed yet and little by little I add another face. Right now I’m focused on a portrait series that’s a little more “documentary” of guys and girls that have just turned 18 and have, in effect, become adults according to the law. From one day to the next their responsibilities change drastically. I’m also starting another portrait project with elderly people, working with slide photography, exploring how the image could look, for now they’re just sketches. I’m also, as I mentioned, immersed in a film where I do the cinematography and making short films and producing a few music videos.
