By enclosing the bugs in the frame, Wickbold willingly acknowledges and encourages an accelerated decay of the work; however he cannot control its evolution and the way the print is affected by the process. The result is beyond two-dimensional photographic work: it is a living installation and a performance, evolving on a daily basis, which may result eventually in an empty frame. The theme is that of life itself: forever evolving, disintegrating, and changing into something new.
In May this year Wickbold’s largescale work (pieces sized at 110cm x160 cm) will be exhibited in an important show traveling from Rio, Sao Paulo to Porto Alegre. Wickbold is an artist who throws himself into his creative impulses and embraces them entirely. The work is compelling and intense. It is not for the faint-hearted.
