High School Equivalency Diploma (Formally GED

®

)

Dear Prospective Students, We hope that you are aware that the current version of the GED® exam will change effective January 1, 2014. A new High School Equivalency (HSE) exam called Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC™) has replaced the 2002 GED® test in New York State. This new test will phase in the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) rigor for math and English Language Arts (ELA) and introduce new content in social studies and science each year over the next three years.

About TASC™ TASC™ is a state of the art and affordable national high school equivalency assessment that assesses five subject areas including reading, writing, mathematics, science and social studies. It measures examinees’ levels of achievement relative to that of a graduating high school senior and career and college readiness, as outlined by the Common Core State Standards. TASC™ will be available in English and Spanish; will be online and on a paper and pencil format. While TASC™ includes the same subjects previously in the GED®, this assessment will be aligned to the Common Core State Standards which gradually introduces new test items that increase rigor and meaning, to acquire a deeper and greater understanding of each of the subject area (i.e. depth of knowledge levels) over three years.

High School Equivalency (HSE) Diploma Math Prep

(Formally GED®) Students will prepare for the High School Equivalency (HSE) examination by learning testtaking strategies in the five TASC™ content areas and strengthen their reading comprehension skills. Topics covered will include: learning how to read visuals; use of a Texas Instrumental TI-30xs calculator; and practice sample questions similar to those on the State exam.

This intensive course is designed to provide students with individualized instruction in math.
