Medical & Health CASAC Credentialed Alcohol & Substance Abuse Counselor Program Hostos Community College’s Division of Continuing Education & Workforce Development is an OASAS Certified Education and Training Provider. This program provides a series of courses that meets the full 350 hour requirement defined in Part 853 (Credentialing of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselors) Regulations. The course will also include 2 classrooms hours dedicated to improving English and vocabulary skills to ensure success in the field. All course work/training offered in the CASAC 350-Hour Certificate Program has been approved by OASAS to satisfy the requirements for CASAC initial credentialing and/or renewal.

Elements and Techniques of Counseling (Individual) Part A
Ethics & Professionalism in the Therapeutic Relationship
Examine the various theories, modalities and techniques used in the field of addiction and the theoretical rationale for counseling.
Learn about the ethics, moralities and boundaries that are interwoven into the professional treatment of alcoholism and other forms of substance abuse. The importance of maintaining a professional relationship will be emphasized.

Introduction to Alcoholism, Substance Abuse and the CASAC Program A comprehensive overview of the CASAC program with topics that include effects of substance abuse, concepts of ethics, morality and responsible professional behavior. Elements and Techniques of Counseling (Group) Part B
Human Services and Practicalities of Counseling at the Job Site
Focus on group counseling and the ethical and professional responsibilities in the treatment of groups, couples and families. Transference and countertransference will be discussed.
Learn the types of places and situations in which CASAC counselors may be employed. This course is designed to prepare the student for the pragmatic tasks of the job.
